12 Best Places to Visit in Portugal | Travel Guide

Tourism in Portugal has been cruising on a wave of success and despite its popularity it continues to be one of the best value destinations. It has it all—a rich history, innovative art, stunning views and super friendly, laid-back locals. Visiting has also become easier since TAP Portugal, the country’s main airline, has increased their stopover program to five days.

Portugal is a gorgeous country to explore and much more than cork products, gorgeous sea and yummy port that it has become famous for. It’s one country that just seems to draw us back time and time again with shed loads of historic cities, gorgeous National Parks and enough bacalhau to satisfy even the hungriest of tummies.

One of the things we love most about Portugal is how unique each of the places feels. You can literally travel 30 minutes up the road and feel like you’re in a totally different country; it really is very special.

Portugal is a fascinating and varied country, with vibrant cities, glorious beaches and wonderful climate. Geographically, Portugal may only be small but there is much diversity between it’s landscapes, cultures and peoples

This is a country dominated by the sea both historically and culturally. There are the magnificent seafaring cities of Lisbon and Porto, the lively beach resorts of the Algarve and the traditional fishing towns of the Atlantic coastline.

The interior of Portugal is as equally varied, from the abundant wine-growing region of the Douro through to the arid hills of the Alentejo. Here ancient fortified towns are set within stunning natural scenery, and there are whole regions virtually undiscovered by modern tourism.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima ( or “Santuário de Nossa Senhora De Fátima” in Portuguese) is located in the small city of Fátima - Portugal. To give some perspective, it's roughly 1h30min north of Lisbon.
According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to three young pastors on six occasions in 1917. The first was May 13. (13 de Maio).

This is a video made during our trip to Fatima - Portugal, in a day trip back in October 2019.

❤️????For some people, it can be an emotional experience to visit Fatima. This was the case for Lia of Discovering Destinations. It was a very special and emotional day that brought her great memories from her childhood.

✨This video is dedicated to Uncle Claude. Always in our hearts ❤️❤️❤️

How to Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima - Fatima, Portugal - Travel Tips

Fatima, Portugal is one of the most pilgrimaged sights in the world and makes a wonderful day trip from Lisbon or Porto, Portugal. There are hourly buses from both Porto and Lisbon and the sight is a mere 10 minute walk from the bus station. Do not take the train to Fatima as the train drops you off 25 km from town.
May 12 and 13 and October 12 and 13 are the main celebration days and make for wonderful religious experiences. Also, any day makes for a great trip. Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia's meeting with Mary is located in the small chappel in the courtyard.

Our visit Lisbon travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to Portuguese cuisine, top sightseeing tourist attractions including visiting churches, monasteries, parks, miradors, quirky neighborhoods, museums and castles. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Lisbon tourism brochure, Lisbon itinerary or Lisbon city tour also known as Lisboa, Portuguesa.

20 Things to do in Lisbon, Portugal Travel Video Transcript:

We feel like we know this city well, so in this Lisbon travel guide we’re going to show you around what we think are some of the best attractions. We only had 3 days in the city this time around, so this Lisbon itinerary will be perfect for any of you visiting on a long weekend escape.

We kicked off our first morning with a ride on Lisbon’s most iconic tram line:#28 bound for panoramic vistas and a hilltop castle. After postcard perfect views looking down over Alfama we went towards the castle, with a little detour offering a bit of street art.

St George Castle is a Moorish castle that looks down over the historic centre and the Tagus River. It’s one of the main tourist landmarks in the city and you get great views of Lisbon.

We circled back to visit the Jeronimos Monastery. Construction of this monastery was ordered by King Manuel, who selected the religious order of Hieronymite monks to occupy the monastery.

Pastéis de nata were created by the monks at the Jerónimos Monastery, and seeing as we were right next door, this was a very logical stop. After browsing at the Sunday Market we walked over to the Santa Justa Elevator, which is the only street lift in Lisbon for public service.

We hope you enjoyed our Lisbon travel guide and found it useful for planning your own trip. If you have any other suggestions of things to do in Lisbon please share those in the comments below.

Nazare - Portugal HD

The Nazaré beach, with a mild climate and natural beauty, has the oldest traditions of Portugal linked to the fishing arts.

The long, crescent-shaped beach, which is also the seafront of the city, is known for its grandeur and brightly colored awnings that decorate the white sand beach in contrast to the blue of the water.

This is the beach of Portugal where the traditions of fishing are more colorful and it is not uncommon to cross with the fishmongers who still wear the seven skirts, as tradition says. On a late Saturday afternoon in the summer months, it is essential to sit on the wall watching the interesting spectacle of Arte Xávega, where fish nets arrive from the sea and the women shout their trading sessions. If we do not exactly understand the words, it's nothing to worry about. These are codes that often only they know.

Facing the sea, on the right side, we see an impressive promontory. It is the Site, where we have one of the most known panoramic views of the Portuguese coast. There are 318 meters of rock falling steeply to the sea, which is reached on foot, for the most courageous, or climbing the elevator. At the top, we find the little Hermitage of Memory, where we can tell the legend of the miracle that Our Lady made preventing the horse of a nobleman, D. Fuas Roupinho, from launching on the cliff. True or not, in the Mirador de Suberco we can see the sign left on the rock by the horseshoe on this foggy morning of 1182. In the Sítio, we can still visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré and not far away, the Dr. Joaquim Manso Museum To learn more about the Nazarene traditions.

From the Sítio and with time for a walk, crossing Pedralva Park, you come to Pederneira, a natural lookout point with a must see on the coast of Nazaré.

Nowadays, the great attraction of this city is the waves and the surf, thanks to the Canção da Nazaré, a submarine geomorphological phenomenon that allows the formation of giant and perfect waves. It is the largest submerged gorge in Europe, with about 170 kilometers along the coast, which is 5000 meters deep.

Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara gave him world-wide visibility when in 2011 he made the world's largest sand-bottom wave, about 30 meters long, at Praia do Norte, winning the Billabong XXL Global BigWave Awards and setting a record Of the Guinness Book. Similarly, surfers from all over the world visit Nazareth every year to venture into the sea. On the beach, sunbathing is also appreciated and an excellent audience to appreciate the feats of these young people.

To get to know Nazaré you do not need a relaxed stroll through the narrow streets, perpendicular to the beach, and a break in one of the restaurants to enjoy a plate of fresh seafood, grilled fish or an appetizing stew. And at dusk, nothing like enjoying the setting sun on any terrace overlooking the sea, as the lights come on and dusk.

Senhora da Rocha Beach (Lady of the Rock) - Porches - Portugal HD

Senhora da Rocha (Lady of the Rock) is a small fishing community in the municipality of Lagoa, specifically on the coastline of Porches parish, in the Algarve, Portugal.

One of its beaches is Praia da Senhora da Rocha (Lady of the Rock beach), the more rustic in the area, it is used as a refuge for the boats of fishermen.

The beach is flanked by high cliffs, but the particular interest is to the west cliff, where the Fort and Chapel of Our Lady of the Rock.

Also in this cliff there is a tunnel carved into the rock, which connects the Senhora da Rocha beach to Praia Nova beach.

WINDIEST PLACE IN PORTUGAL + THINGS TO DO IN BELÉM, LISBON

Hi everybody! Another day, another vlog!

TODAY’S PLAN:
1. COSTA DA CAPARICA
2. CABO ESPICHEL
3. BELÉM
4. PASTÉIS DE BELÉM
5. MOSTEIRO DOS JERÓNIMOS (Monastery)
6. MAAT

On our last vlog, we went to Costa da Caparica to disconnect from the city and enjoy the beach. Maria ended up deciding to take Du to Cabo Espichel. So that was our next stop!
Cabo Espichel was beautiful with a cute Sanctuary (Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel) and with the most amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean! But the wind… Oh my god! The wind was crazy, without a doubt the windiest place we ever been so far! So we decided to run to the car to end the pain sooner lol
The next day, we decided that Du was going to choose the plans of the day! Since he woke up with urges to eat Pastéis de Belém, that was our first stop.
We ate some pastéis in the garden in front of Mosteiro dos Jerónimos to enjoy this beautiful monument, one of the seven wonders of Portugal!
Finally, to digest the food we went for a walk near the river, one of our favorite spots to walk doesn’t matter the time of the day is always beautiful and very pleasant.

Thank you.

We’re Maria and Du, we met shooting a commercial in Lisbon (Maria’s city) in 2018.
We started a distance relationship flying twice a month (Lisbon - Barcelona) and after a few months of that, we finally moved in together in Barcelona, where Du was born and raised (his parents are from South Korea).
We started our Youtube channel because we love traveling, we always enjoy our trips and we wanted to keep our memories through nice videos, now we can share them with you.
Our final goal would be traveling full-time and someday, helping people around the world doing something nice.

Top 5 Viewpoints In Lisbon, Portugal

Belgian lad living in Portugal for three years. This is a video where I show off some of the best views, vistas and lookouts in the Portuguese capital Lisbon. 4 of 5 views aren't actually in Lisbon, so i guess the title of this video is kinda clickbait. I can't speak Portuguese.

Music: Pulses by Steve Reich
All video footage shot by me.
