Fair Harbor Fire Island NY ???????? walking tour to Atlantic Ocean ???? from Great South Bay New York USA

Fair Harbor Fire Island NY ???????? walking tour to Atlantic Ocean ???? from Great South Bay New York USA ????????

The gorgeous harbor at the center of town is where residents gather for “Sixish” on the dock at sunset, enjoy a top notch dinner at Le Dock, grocery shop at Pioneer Market and cool off with an ice cream cone at Unfreindly’s. The bay front swim area and playground are always filled with happy noise and sandy kids.

A “Barefoot Community”, Fair Harbor is a laid back, informal, bustling community. The architecture is as varied as its residents, from humble 1940’s cottages to spacious modern homes. Many of New York’s professionals flock to this lovely, lively town. Whether with children or single, the residents are here for relaxation and fun.

The magnificent harbor view from the dock is the best on the island. Everyone gathers here in the evening for “Sixish” to toast the setting sun. Kids sell their wares while adults mingle and share a glass of wine. Fair Harbor is the perfect town for single professionals to meet and for families with kids who all like to run free.

It is easy to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle here. The lifeguarded bay beach is a gathering place for parents to relax and chat while the kids swim out to the raft or climb in the newly renovated playground.

Unfriendly’s ice cream store is nearby for refreshments when the going gets tough.

The Lifeguard-patrolled ocean beach is wide, sandy and clean. A pair of shoes is rarely spotted in this town.

The center of town is on the bay front with the Pioneer gourmet market, Unfriendly’s ice cream stand, Corliss General store, the Loading Dock liquor store, post office, and fire house. Events are held frequently at the fire house.

Le Dock restaurant on the bay front has a spectacular view and fine dining. Be sure to make reservations well ahead of time.

The first-rate volunteer fire department services Fair Harbor, Dunewood and Lonelyville, its close neighbors.

Although there are almost 400 homes, it is a closely knit community, with a strong and active membership in the Fair Harbor Community Association. They oversee the town services, including choosing the doctor, lifeguards, and maintaining the marina.

They sponsor the Annual Pine Walk Crafts Fair on the dock and bay front 4th of July weekend, which has grown into a major showcase for local artists.

Point o' Woods Fire Island NY ???????? walking tour from the Great South Bay New York USA 2021 4K video

Point O' Woods is a hamlet that consists of a private vacation retreat on Fire Island, New York, in Suffolk County. Although it resembles a village or small town, with services such as a ferry port, a general store, church and fire department, the private community is open exclusively to members and their guests, who are the only persons allowed in through the hamlet's gate, or allowed to use the private ferry that runs to Point O' Woods from Bay Shore on Long Island.

Point O Woods feels like another century, and residents here guard their privacy. This stunning community borders Ocean Bay Park on the west and a stretch of open National Seashore to the east. Ferries leave from Bay Shore

Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove short tour

This is a quick update to my 2015 Fire Island video which can be found here
That video is a full tour and has answers to nearly all questions you have in the description. The comments section also has a bunch of additional information.

Cherry Grove and the Fire Island Pines are the Gay Communities of Fire Island, they are accessed via ferry from Sayville. There are several other similar small towns that are more family oriented. Some of the other towns are more quiet, some are more party town atmosphere. You can reach those towns via ferries from Bayshore and Patchouge. Because I grew up in Sayville just across the Great South Bay on Long Island, Cherry Grove and The Pines are the towns i had easy access to.. many of us worked over here as kids. Great place for a summer job. We took the ferry to and from work!
The Pines and Cherry Grove are very quiet on weekdays but most nights and all weekend it's a pretty big party with a lot of bars, clubs, restaurants and house parties going on all over.
Fire Island communities are essentially summer-only. Most of the homes are rented rather than owned. Sometimes people who don't know each other rent rooms in a house, also rentals are often shares where they stay part of the time and split the place with other people. A bizarre and comic example of that can be found in the tv show FireIsland, which ai show the house from. This year that house is offered for $15,000 per week. Most places cost less but you would rent a room. I believe the typical share rental is a few weekends plus one full week for a few thousand dollars.
I ran into one guy who said you look like you're hiking Fire Island! turned out he was one of 15 year round residents. A few people stay through the winter to maintain and secure the communities, it might be a bit cold in winter but imagine having all this to yourself several months a year, and just a few miles away are millions of people crammed together!
I live on the west coast now so if you would like to see San Francisco's Castro District and a Pride celebration check here...
Thanks For Watching!

Walking Huntington Village NY (August 3rd 2021)

Today I walk around Huntington village and I actually try out my new mic for the first time. I think the mic works really well and blocks out that annoying wind noise. I barely heard any wind in this video, which is awesome!

Description about Huntington village from wikipedia:

In 1653, three men from Oyster Bay, Richard Holbrook, Robert Williams and Daniel Whitehead, purchased a parcel of land from the Matinecock tribe. This parcel has since come to be known as the First Purchase and included land bordered by Cold Spring Harbor on the west, Northport Harbor on the east, what is now known as Old Country Road to the south and Long Island Sound to the north. The three men immediately turned the land over to the settlers who had already been living there.[3]

George Bradford Brainerd Street, 1907

George Bradford Brainerd Street, ca. 1872–1887
From that initial settlement, Huntington grew over subsequent years to include all of the land presently comprising the modern Towns of Huntington and Babylon. The southern part of the town was formally separated to create Babylon in 1872.[3]

Because Huntington was populated largely by English settlers, unlike the rest of the New Amsterdam colony, the town voted in 1660 to become part of the Connecticut colony rather than remain under the authority of New Amsterdam. It was not until the British gained control of New Amsterdam in 1664 (renaming it New York) that Huntington was formally restored to the jurisdiction of New York.[3]

Following the Battle of Long Island during the American Revolutionary War, British troops used Huntington as their headquarters, and remained encamped there until the end of the war.[3]

The arrival of the Long Island Rail Road in 1867 transformed the economy of Huntington from primarily agriculture and shipping (based on its well protected harbor) to tourism and commuting. Cold Spring Harbor became a popular summer resort.[3]

The end of World War II brought about an explosive growth of population in Huntington, as in the rest of the region. Farms and resorts gave way to homes, and Huntington has transformed into a major bedroom community for nearby New York City.[3]
