Kanaka Dasa (ಕನಕದಾಸ) (1509 – 1609) was a poet, philosopher, musician and composer from modern Karnataka. He is known for his Keertanas and Ugabhoga, compositions in the Kannada language for Carnatic music. Like other Haridasas, he used simple Kannada language and native metrical forms for his compositions.

Nagareshvara Temple, Bankapura
Nagareshwara Temple located in Bankapur village is in Haveri District of Karnataka. The Bankapur village falls between Hubli and Haveri. The temple is set in verdant surroundings, a part of the Peacock Sanctuary with the ramparts of the fort adjoining it. One look at the temple reminds a traveler of all the Western Chalukyan temple structures around Karnataka. With intricately carved doorways and pillars, the temple consists of Mukhamanatapa, Navaranga, Antarala and Garbhagruha. Nagareshwara Temple is also known as ‘Aruvattu Kambagada Gudi’ (Sixty Pillars Temple) after the sixty beautiful Chalukyan style pillars in the Mukhamantapa. It can be approached from three sides and visitors can see miniature Gopuras and delicately carved miniature sculptures all along the outer wall of the Mukhamantapa. The door of the Navaranga has beautifully carved five-band decorations with attractive Gajalakshmi motifs on the lintel. There were two entrances from the Navaranga of which only one remains. The left one was damaged due to the ravages on the temple structure by Muslim invaders.
Nagareshwara Temple was built in the Jakkanachari style during the Chalukyan Era (11th century). It is one of the beautiful temples of Karnataka. This temple was excavated by the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) and found to be underground; its gopuram is not visible to us anymore. The gopuram was covered with soil with the intention of protecting the temple from invaders.
The exterior of Nagareshwara Temple is carved beautifully with a richly decorated entrance and 66 pillars shaped and polished to perfection. Motifs of animals and birds adorn the pillars. Well looked after, the temple, when visited, resounds with the calls of birds, especially the peacocks from the adjacent Peacock Sanctuary.

Introduction
This settlement is one of the settlement proposed by Central Tibetan Administration in early 1960’s to the Government of India. Thus Government of India consultation with the state Government of Karnataka agreed to provide 4,045.29 acres of mostly forestland near Taluk village in North Kanara district. Doeguling Tibetan Settlement in Mundgod was established in 1966 and at the begining the settlers were provided with tents and bamboo huts for temporary shelter and provided with free dry rations, all the settlers work together on co-operative basis.
Settlement Location:
This settlement is situated in Tattihalli in Mundgod Taluk of Karnataka State, India. It is about 267 miles north of Bylakuppe and about 32 miles south of Hubli, the nearest railway station. Hubli is 404 km North east of Bangalore City and is linked by metergauge railway and is on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway. The altitude at Mundgod is approximately 1800 ft. above sea level and the temperature ranges between 78° – 90° Fahrenheit with an average rainfall of 42″ to 45″ annually. This settlement is one of the largest Tibetan refugee settlements in India.

Baobab Trees @ Savanur, Dodda Hunase Mara Mutt | Adansonia Digitata the baobab | Haveri
Savanur is a taluk head quarter of Haveri district, Karnataka state. These huge trees with unique look and shape are called as Baobab trees, are at heart of the town and maintained by a mutt called as Dodda Hunase Mara Mutt. These trees are huge in size and found in Africa and in some other countries, but in India at few places only these are found. The local people call them as Big tamarind trees as the fruits tastes of tamarinds with citrus. These fruits are used in medicines since they having vitamins. Everyday Puja is offered to these trees as some mythological stories are attached to them. People believe that some divine power is there in these three Baobab trees. Someone can get good information and photos, videos from Google about Baobab trees of Africa.
