Porto Alegre is a Brazilian municipality and the capital of the southernmost state in Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. With an area of almost 500 km² and a population of 1 492 530 inhabitants, it has a diverse geography, with hills, lowlands and a large lake: the Guaíba. It is 2,027 km from the national capital, Brasília.
The city was founded on the arrival of Azorean couples in the mid-18th century. In the 19th century, it counted on the influx of many German and Italian immigrants, as well as receiving Spaniards, Africans, Poles and Lebanese. Home to the largest urban concentration in the South region and the fifth most populous in Brazil, it developed quickly and is now home to almost 1.5 million inhabitants within municipal limits and around 4,311,019 inhabitants in the metropolitan region. With 37.7% of the population living in apartments, it is the second most verticalized capital in the country, after Vitória (ES). The city faces many challenges, including the fact that part of the population lives in sub-housing conditions, high cost of living, high incidence of obesity and smoking, serious deficiencies in terms of pollution, degradation of original ecosystems, high crime rates and growing traffic problems.
On the other hand, it boasts more than 80 awards and titles that distinguish it as one of the best Brazilian capitals to live, work, do business, study and have fun. It was also highlighted in 2010 by the UN as the number 1 Metropolis in terms of quality of life in Brazil three times; as having one of the 40 best democratic public management models due to its Participatory Budget and for having the best Human Development Index (HDI) among the national metropolises. IBGE data pointed it in 2009 as the Brazilian capital with the lowest unemployment rate, the British consulting firm Jones Lang LaSalle included it in 2004 among the 24 cities with the greatest potential to attract investment in the world[26] and appears in the list of Pricewaterhouse Coopers among the hundred richest cities in the world. Porto Alegre received the classification of self-sufficient city by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network (GaWC).
Furthermore, Porto Alegre is one of the most wooded and literate cities in the country, it is a regional hub for attracting migrants in search of better living, working and studying conditions and has an infrastructure in many aspects superior to that of other capitals in Brazil. It made international headlines when it hosted the first editions of the World Social Forum and was chosen as one of the venues for the 2014 World Cup. It also has a qualified and diversified culture, with intense activity in practically all areas of the arts, sports and sciences, often with national projection, in addition to having rich folklore traditions and a significant historical heritage in centuries-old buildings and numerous museums.

Sarandí Pedestrian Street, Montevideo, Uruguay Virtual Walking Tour (4K)
Hi everyone, I filmed this walking tour on June 21st at around 2:00 PM. This walk follows Peatonal Sarandí through Ciudad Vieja (Old City) Montevideo. I started this walk at Plaza Independencia and the whole length of Sarandí until I reached the breakwater at the Rambla of Montevideo. This is a distance of around 1.5 km or 0.9 miles.
On this walk, we'll see a number of Montevideo landmarks, historic buildings, and plazas including:
-Plaza Independencia, Palacio Salvo
-Artigas Mausoleum
-Puerta de la Ciudad (Gateway of the Citadel)
-Plaza de la Constitución, Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral (Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción y San Felipe y Santiago de Montevideo)
-Museo Gurvich, Escollera Sarandí
-La Rambla
-The Port of Montevideo.
We'll also pass by a number of restaurants, kiosks, cafes, galleries, theaters, and other businesses. We'll see some beautiful street art and graffiti. We'll also see plenty of ordinary Uruguayan people going about their day-to-day lives in the capital city.
Sarandí is a walking street that passes through Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja or old city. This is the area where the city of Montevideo was founded by the Spanish in 1724. This part of the city was surrounded by a wall until 1829 to protect the city from invasions. The only remaining part of the wall is the Gateway of the Citadel, which we pass through on this tour. Today, Sarandí is one of Montevideo's most touristy streets.

Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, is a small city and you can see many attractions within 1 day. If you are visiting Buenos Aires, you should consider a day trip to Montevideo.
It takes about 8 hours by bus. Bus terminal is located in Retiro and Buquebus ferry terminal is north of Puerto Madero. You can buy tickets here or on the Buquebus website.
There are two options in ferry from Buenos Aires to Montevideo Uruguay.

Welcome to Montevideo, Uruguay. This is a City Walking Tour in 4K around Old Town or Ciudad Vieja, Plaza de la Independencia, Artigas Mausoleum, Palacio Salvo, Peatonal Sarandí and Mercado del Puerto by Wanna Walk.
Montevideo is the southernmost capital city in the Americas and the biggest city in a charming little country called Uruguay. We start walking from the Artigas Mausoleum in Plaza de la Independencia, in the neighbourhood of Ciudad Vieja or Old Town. From this place we can watch beautiful art deco buildings, colonial homes and landmarks including the towering Palacio Salvo and neoclassical performance hall Solís Theatre and Mercado del Puerto, a popular port steakhouses market. Best starting point is the Plaza Independencia (Montevideo main square). From here you can see the remains of the city walls and town gate, which is the beginning of the original Old Town. This is a nice area to walk around in. From old to new parts of the city. Some places to go shopping, a few places to eat as well. Clean area with a lot of people out and about. Locals and tourists all mesh in this area. I found it to be worth the stroll down the street to check it out. Good spot for some pics!
There are two explanations for the name MONTEVIDEO: First comes from the Portuguese Monte vide eu which means I see a mountain and the second could be the location of the city in a map as Monte VI De Este a Oeste meaning The sixth mountain from east to west.
