Santos Dumont Airport (IATA: SDU, ICAO: SBRJ) is the second major airport serving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is named after the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont (1873–1932). It is operated by Infraero. Santos Dumont has slot restrictions operating with a maximum of 19 operations/hour, being one of the five airports with such restrictions in Brazil
Originally known as Calabouço Airport, the history of the airport can be traced back to the early 1930s. Until that time, the few aircraft equipped with landing gear used Manguinhos Airport. Seaplanes, which at the time operated the majority of domestic and international flights, used a terminal located at the Calabouço Point, an area known today as Praça Marechal Âncora. Take-off and landings were made using an area of Guanabara Bay then known as estirão do Caju (Caju water stretch). It was as a development of the terminal at Calabouço Point that Calabouço Airport was created.

Hello everyone welcome to Travelzilla, in this video visit one of my favorite city airports, the airport of SANTOS DUMONT (SDU) in the marvelous city of RIO DE JANEIRO BRAZIL. Please join me on an airport tour of this incredible airport. Santos Dumont is located in one of the world'd most scenic locations, GUANABARA BAY. It was built on top a huge landfill and as you're landing in Rio or taking off you can enjoy some of the world'd most iconic spots such as the statue of Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana beach, Ipanema Beach, Barra, The Rio-Niteroi Bridge, not to mention the finantial center of Rio. I start the video landing the Rio de Janeiro (landing in Santos Dumont on a flight coming from Congonhas Airport in São Paulo.
In this video I tell you all about Rio de Janeiro's Santos Dumont Airport, we start with arrivals, about how to get to the airport and from the airport to public transport, give you and airport tour of arrivals and departures, talk about the main airlines that fly here (Azul Brazilian Airlines, Gol Airlines, Latam Airlines and Passaredo Airlines), how to find the uber lounge, the Bossa Nova Mall and then we move to departures. Of course that in the process I give you an introduction to the shuttle flights that link Rio and São Paulo. The Rio-Sao Paulo Shuttle is the busiest route in the americas and the 5th busiest in the world for they link the finantial centers of 2 of the largest cities in the southern hemisphere, Rio and São Paulo. On 31 August 2009, Infraero unveiled a BRL152.2 million (US$80.2 million; EUR64.5 million) investment plan[10] to upgrade Santos Dumont Airport, particularly the passenger arrivals terminal. The plan focused on the preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which was held in Brazil and Rio de Janeiro being one of the venue cities, and the 2016 Summer Olympics. The renovation was completed in 2013
Rio de Janeiro/Galeão – Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (IATA: GIG, ICAO: SBGL), popularly known by its original name Galeão International Airport, is the main airport serving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2019, it was the country's fourth-busiest airport by passenger traffic. It is named after Praia do Galeão (Galleon Beach), located in front of the original passenger terminal (the present passenger terminal of the Brazilian Air Force) and where in 1663 the galleon Padre Eterno was built;] and since January 5, 1999 also after the Brazilian musician Antonio Carlos Jobim. Galeão Airport is explicitly mentioned in his composition Samba do avião. It is the largest airport site in terms of area in Brazil.
Since August 12, 2014 it has been operated by the concessionary Rio Galeão,[9] a consortium formed by the Brazilian investor Odebrecht and Changi Airport Group, with a minority participation of the government owned company Infraero, the previous operator.[10] The new concessionary has been using the brand name RIOgaleão – Aeroporto Internacional Tom Jobim.
Some of its facilities are shared with the Galeão Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force

Santos Dumont Airport is one of the ten busiest airports in Brazil.
It was built in the 1930s on a landfill on the edge of Guanabara Bay.
Beauty is one of the highlights of this Airport. Surrounded by the sea, it offers a breathtaking view of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Through the modern departure lounge, the first in Brazil fully covered with transparent material, which gives a wide view of the Guanabara Bay.
At the head of the lanes you can see the Sugarloaf Mountain on one side, the Rio x Niterói bridge on the other, and further on, the Christ the Redeemer.
