SANTIAGO DE LAS VEGAS, CUBA.
Santiago de las Vegas is a ward of Boyeros, a municipality of Havana, Cuba, located 20 km south of the city center. As of 2012, the population was 32,958. The Cuban government maintains an agricultural experiment station as well as a meteorology center in the city.
In 1824, the town was declared a city, allowing their people to raise a statue dedicated to the Spanish King Ferdinand VII, placed at the Recreo Square. In 1831, the monarch corresponded by granting the city with the title of Faithful and Very Illustrious City Council.
Here was born, in 1923, the Italian writer Italo Calvino. It was also the birthplace of the notorious scientist Juan Tomás Roig Mesa, renowned botanist well known by his work on medicinal and poisonous plants. Other notable sons of the city were ethnomusicologist Helio Orovio and mezzo-soprano Esther Borja.

Spending 24 hours in Cuba's most beautiful city, Havana!
When we went to Varadero Cuba for a week we decided to take a 2 hour cab from there to the capitol city of Havana to visit our friends for a day. So in this video I wanted to show you guys my short experience in Havana for 24 hours.
We got to see some of old Havana and actually eat at some really good restaurants as well as visit our friends Airbnb that might be one of the nicest ones that I've ever seen!

Time Traveling in Cuba - Through My Grandmother's Journal
After my grandmother passed away, I found a hidden journal she wrote about her life growing up in a small town in Cuba called Santiago de Las Vegas.
Recently, I had the opportunity to actually go there with Geo Chic Magazine, and take a time traveling tour of all the places she wrote about!
Take a journey through time in Cuba from the 1921 to her final flight in 1958, and see how much it has (or hasn't) changed now in 2015!
Santiago, Cuba - A Taste of Los Corales & Carisol hotels (part 3 - Rio Baconao)
Today, we refresh ourselves in the beautiful Rio Baconao (river) at the midway point of our horseback ride accompanied by Cheno, our Cuban friend.
Our excursion takes us along the beautiful coastline from the Club Amigo Los Corales and Carisol hotels past the pristine Playa Cardenero beach, located close to the Baconao lagoon and surrounded by the magnificent Gran Piedra mountain range only a few miles from Guantanamo Bay.
The Santiago area was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy back in 2012 which destroyed many of the area's infrastructures, houses (including Cheno's) and crops.
Santiago is best known as the birthplace of Fidel Castro's revolution and is also where the Bacardi Rum empire originates from.
