We Went on a Poland Road Trip | Lublin, Zamość, Sandomierz
Our Poland road trip has begun as we pack our bags and hit the road.
First up we left Warsaw and headed to our first stop in our eastern road trip which was the cute little town of Kazimierz Dolny. Here we got to see what a town with 15th, 16th and 17th century buildings look like.
That night we spent exploring the night markets in Lublin before heading to bed and starting day 2 of our road trip exploring the Lublin castle and the painted church.
We then spent the rest of our day exploring the Majdanek concentration camp just outside of Lublin before making our way to Zamosc for the night.
Day 3 of our road trip began in the very colorful old town of Zamosc and we started our day nice and slow before heading to a Polish winery, met some Alpaca friends, had a tasty home cooked meal before heading onto Sandomierz.
Our final day on the road trip we headed to Krzyżtopór Castle before making our way back to Warsaw.

SANDOMIERZ ZAMEK i MUZEUM Tour.
The Sandomierz Royal Castle (Polish: Zamek Królewski w Sandomierzu) is a medieval structure in Sandomierz, Poland. It was built on a slope of Vistula River by Casimir III the Great and extended in the 16th century. The original building was blown up in 1656, leaving only the west wing standing. It was later transformed into a Renaissance styled residence with the west wing preserved as a museum. The 14th-century castle was built on the site of the existing stronghold in the 10th century. Between 1146-1166 it was the seat of Prince Henry of Sandomierz, son of Bolesław III Wrymouth. The Gothic castle was built by Casimir the Great. The remnants of the Gothic structure are visible in the foundations of the octagonal tower of the south corner, which is the oldest part of the monument. The existing tower was built during the reign of Casimir IV Jagiellon in the 15th century as an integral part of the so-called Great House, the seat of the prince.
During the reign of Sigismund I the Old and Sigismund II Augustus, the castle was enlarged. The Sigismund the Old's cornerstone preserved above the entrance on the east side of the array. It bears the date 1520 and a cartouche with Sigismund's eagle. The construction was supervised by the Royal architect Benedyct Sandomierski, who erected two-storey arcaded cloisters around a closed courtyard.
During the Deluge the castle was blown up by the retreating Swedish troops of general Sincler. About fifty Poles, who entered the abandoned castle, were killed. When traveling, most people start in the capital and work their way throughout the country. Contrasting that approach, we visited 9 cities before going to Poland's capital. During our stay, we experienced a mixture of big cities and small towns. Some of which had powerful museums and memorials. We tasted all kinds of Polish cuisine. But to see all of this took us 6 weeks. So as we end our time in Poland, here in the country’s capital, we will examine the city to see if it offers everything you need to see as a tourist. We will explore Warsaw and let you know at the end if we regret visiting 10 cities while here in Poland.
Warsaw has a nice mixture of what we saw throughout the country such as: milk bars, repurposed factories, the Vistula river, an Old Town Square, a Christmas Market, Castle, Museums, Architecture, and a variety of souvenirs.

Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna Sandomierz.
The Underground Tourist Route in Sandomierz was created on the safety mine works, when the former cellars and merchant warehouses were linked. It is 470 meters long and its denivelation can reach 12 meters. Unused and for many year unsecured multilevel cellars of the 19th-century tenement houses were very often the cause of construction disasters. The underground tourist route is open for visitors since 1997. The entrance is at the back of the Oleśnicki-Family tenement house, few meters away from the market square. The chambers and tunnels, which had been droned for ages, are shrouded in mystery. Some say that they stretch under the Wisła river’s bottom into the castle in Baranów Sandomierski.
In 1963 new breakdowns and subsidences were noted in Sandomierz. The experts from the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Kraków designed a special program entitled “The Guidelines on Sandomierz Old Town Rescuing Process”. The works resulted in a maze of cellars, tunnels, excavation sites –multilevel and long underground town. The underground route of 470 meters was established and in 1977 it was opened for visitors. Its deepest chamber reaches 12 meters. In December 2007 the route was lengthened by the renovated chambers under the Oleśnickis-Family tenement house.
Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna to udostępniona do zwiedzania część kilkukondygnacyjnych komór i chodników znajdujących się pod Starym Miastem. Ich powstaniu sprzyjała zalegająca na tym terenie gruba warstwa lessu. Drążone korytarze pełniły w minionych wiekach rolę składów kupieckich, w których przechowywano głównie wino, sól i śledzie. Służyły także jako schronienie w niebezpiecznych sytuacjach. Zapotrzebowanie na podziemne magazyny było ogromne, co spowodowało, że osiągały one nawet 15 metrów głębokości. Po kilku wiekach, kiedy pozycja Sandomierza nie była już tak strategiczna, lochy odeszły w zapomnienie. Nieużywane i niezabezpieczone stały się przyczyną katastrof budowlanych. Na ratunek Starego Miasta pośpieszyli naukowcy z Akadami Górniczo – Hutniczej w Krakowie. Po zrealizowaniu specjalnego programu odzyskano obszar prawdziwego, kilkukondygnacyjnego labiryntu piwnic oraz korytarzy. Część wyrobisk musiała zostać zlikwidowana ze względów konstrukcyjnych. Z pozostałych odcinków utworzono Podziemną Trasę Turystyczną. Jej długość wynosi obecnie 470 m. Najgłębsze wyrobiska znajdują się na głębokości 12 m. Każda z piwniczek/komór ma swoją nazwę, która stanowi nawiązanie do historii Sandomierza. Drążone przez wieki liczne korytarze oraz komory związane są z wieloma sandomierskimi tajemnicami i legendami. Najsłynniejsza z nich opowiada o sandomierskiej bohaterce Halinie Krępiance, która kosztem własnego życia uratowała miasto przed oblegającymi je Tatarami. Sandomierz (Latin: Sandomiria) is a historical town in south-eastern Poland with 23,863 inhabitants (2017), situated in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (Holy Cross Province) since 1999. It is the capital of Sandomierz County. Sandomierz is known for its preserved Old Town, a major cultural and tourist attraction which was declared a National Monument of Poland in 2017. In the past, Sandomierz used to be one of the most important urban centers not only of Lesser Poland, but also of the whole country. It was a royal city of the Polish Crown and a regional administrative centre from the High Middle Ages to the 19th century.
Sandomierz – miasto w województwie świętokrzyskim, w powiecie sandomierskim, położone nad Wisłą, na siedmiu wzgórzach (stąd nazywane czasem „małym Rzymem”). Sandomierz jest usytuowany na Nizinie Nadwiślańskiej i rozciąga się od Wyżyny Sandomierskiej po Równinę Tarnobrzeską. Większość zabudowy wraz z historycznym centrum, uznanym w 2017 za pomnik historii, położona jest na lewym brzegu Wisły, a przemysłowa część, zwana Nadbrzeziem, leży przy prawym brzegu, w Kotlinie Sandomierskiej, granicząc z Tarnobrzegiem.
Przez miasto przebiegają szlaki turystyczne: cysterski, św. Jakuba, Via Jagiellonica, Architektury Drewnianej oraz Wschodni Szlak Rowerowy Green Velo.
Historycznie położony jest w Małopolsce, główne miasto dawnej ziemi sandomierskiej, następnie województwa sandomierskiego. Miasto królewskie w powiecie sandomierskim województwa sandomierskiego w drugiej połowie XVI wieku. W czasach Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów w Sandomierzu mieściła się kasa szafarzy podatków dla Małopolski. Sandomierz uzyskał prawo składu w 1286 roku.

Queen Jadwiga's Ravine - Wąwóz Królowej Jadwigi Sandomierz - Poland (4K)
Queen Jadwiga's Ravine (Wąwóz Królowej Jadwigi) is a tourist attractions in Sandomierz, Poland, It was created by water that had been flowing down a loess slope for thousands of years. It is less than half a kilometer long and about 15 meters high. The tops of the ravine's walls are covered with deciduous trees whose roots create an unforgettable and very original sight. According to legend, this place was often visited by Queen Jadwiga, who was a frequent visitor to the nearby church of St. James, hence the ravine was named after her. The Queen Jadwiga Ravine was recognized as a natural monument and is under protection.
Wąwóz Świętej Królowej Jadwigi w Sandomierzu – około półkilometrowy wąwóz lessowy położony w południowo-zachodniej części miasta między ulicami Staromiejską a Królowej Jadwigi (kilkanaście metrów od ul. Królowej Jadwigi krzyżuje się z ul. Krakowską). Maksymalna wysokość u jego wylotu wynosi ponad 10 m. W bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie wąwozu przebiega Małopolska Droga św. Jakuba. Tuż obok wąwozu na Wzgórzu Świętopawłowym znajduje się kościół Nawrócenia św. Pawła Apostoła. Według legendy miejsce to często odwiedzane było przez królową Jadwigę, która była częstym gościem pobliskiego kościoła św. SANDOMIERZ - Królewskie miasto [2022] [PL/EN]
Sandomierz - urocze miasteczko, pełne historii, położone na siedmiu lessowych wzgórzach
nad rzeką Wisłą. Jest jednym z najstarszych miast Polski, a w okresie średniowiecza było
jedną z siedzib króla.
Miasto znane, ale będące nieco na uboczu turystycznego szlaku, choć z pewnością warte
odwiedzenia i poznania. My spędziliśmy w nim weekend i tyle w zupełności wystarczy
by zobaczyć najważniejsze zabytki i poczuć jego klimat.
Miejsca, które zobaczyliśmy to między innymi Rynek Starego Miasta z ratuszem,
Katedra NMP, Brama Opatowska czy Zamek Królewski. Przeszliśmy się sandomierskimi
wąwozami, podziemną trasą turystyczną, a także odbyliśmy rejs po Wiśle.
Odwiedziliśmy winnicę Dominikanów wraz z jednym z najstarszych
murowanych kościołów w Polsce, a także udaliśmy się do pobliskiego rezerwatu
Gór Pieprzowych. Poznajcie Sandomierz wraz z nami!
Sandomierz jest dość dobrze skomunikowany z resztą kraju i łatwo dojechać tu na przykład
pociągiem, jak zrobiliśmy to my. Podróż z Warszawy trwa 3,5 godziny w jedną stronę.
