L’Aquila is the capital Abruzzo region, in Italy, 100 km from Rome, and dates back to the twelfth century.
L’Aquila is the city where I grew up and I always loved the beauty of its historical center, full of monumental churches, fascinating squares, extended porticoes, all surrounded by mountains!
This city can offer a unique journey through history, traditions, and nature.
So, what are ten possible attractions that I would show to a foreign friend who comes to visit me?
WHAT
1/10: I would start from the Basilica of Collemaggio, the symbol of the city of L'Aquila, and one of the most visited tourist destinations of Abruzzo. Built in 1288, according to the legends here Pope Celestino V was crowned in 1294. On the left side of the church there is the Holy Door: for believers, crossing this door gives the remission of sins.
2/10: The Spanish Fort was built on the highest point of the city in 1534. The Fort has four massive bastions at the corners, and at the entrance, characterized by the precious stone portal, where you can see the double-headed eagle belonged to Charles V.
3/10: Piazza Duomo is the historic meeting place for the people of L'Aquila. Here you can visit the Cathedral of Saints Massimo and Giorgio, the Church of the Holy Souls, and the pair of old fountains of 1300. In Piazza Duomo there are bars, ice cream parlors, and the tourist information office.
4/10: The Basilica of San Bernardino is located in a panoramic position on the top of the steps of via Forte Braccio. The Basilica is characterized by the high Renaissance facade, built by Cola dell'Amatrice in 1525, and inside you can appreciate the majestic wooden ceiling decorated with gold.
5/10: The Fontana delle 99 Cannelle was built in 1274 in the lower area of the city, near the Aterno river. The plant of the fountain is trapezoidal in shape, an architecture of great impact. The name derives from the number of jets of water that start from stone masks, all different from each other. Try counting them up to 99, which is a symbolic and mysterious number in L'Aquila culture.
6/10: Fontana Luminosa stands at the beginning of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the ideal gateway to the city center, with the Gran Sasso as a background. The two bronze female bodies support the typical Abruzzo basin from which the jets of water flows. Its name is due to the play of light and colors during the night.
7/10: Behind the Villa Comunale there is the complex of Palazzo dell'Emiciclo, built in 1888, now the seat of the Abruzzo Regional Council. It has a rich Ionic portico in a semicircular shape and hosts concerts and events.
8/10: Crossing L'Aquila's porticoes: L'Aquila's porticoes are an authentic piece of the city's past. They cross Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the main street of the historic center, full of admirable buildings, and reach Piazza Duomo.
9/10: Walking in the green: L'Aquila is a center of art and culture, but look around and behind art and culture: you’ll notice Gran Sasso and so many other mountains. The Castle’s park is an example of a place where you can take a relaxing walk, have an aperitif or stop and read a book. Another green and scenic area just outside the walls is Parco del Sole, close to Collemaggio Basilica.
10/10: Attractions around: if you visit L’Aquila do not miss the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views visiting Gran Sasso, the highest mountain massif of central Italy and the set of several western films by Sergio Leone. And visit also the panoramic castle of Rocca Calascio, the set of the film The name of the rose, with the actor Sean Connery.

L'autostrada A2, detta anche autostrada del Mediterraneo, è parte delle strade europee E45, E90 e E841 e, con un'estensione totale di 442,2 km, rappresenta la continuazione dell'autostrada A3 e del raccordo autostradale 2 collegando Salerno a Reggio Calabria passando per Cosenza e Vibo Valentia.
L'originario tracciato dell'ex A3 Sa-Rc si estende per 442,920 km nelle province di Salerno, Potenza, Cosenza, Catanzaro, Vibo Valentia e Reggio Calabria, dove si innesta sulla strada statale 106 Jonica.
È un'autostrada che snoda il suo percorso in gran parte su territorio montano, attraversando l'Appennino lucano e calabrese.
190 gallerie (125 km) - 35 gallerie più lunghe di 1 km
480 viadotti (97 km).
La tratta inizia senza soluzione di continuità tra l'A3 Napoli - Salerno e la tratta proveniente da Fisciano.
Superato l'innesto si apre un tratto a tre corsie più quella di emergenza, con gallerie e viadotti che attraversano: Pontecagnano, Battipaglia, Eboli, Campagna, Contursi Terme, Sicignano degli Alburni (RA5 Potenza), Polla, Atena Lucana, Sala Consilina e Padula.
Superato lo svincolo di Sicignano l'autostrada prosegue a due corsie più quella d'emergenza (salvo alcuni tratti, tra cui quelli non ammodernati, privi di corsia di emergenza) e, all'inizio del viadotto Pennarone I (km 123+500) entra in Basilicata.
Nel breve tratto lucano l'autostrada percorre il Parco Nazionale dell'Appenino Lucano ed il Parco Nazionale del Pollino.
Tra gli svincoli di Lauria Nord e Lauria Sud è presente la galleria Serra Rotonda, che con i suoi 3.800 metri è la galleria più lunga dell'Italia meridionale.
L'autostrada è l'arteria principale della Calabria, collegata con strade trasversali anche al principale asse viario del versante ionico, la SS 106 Jonica/E-90.
Nel superare il tratto iniziale del fiume Lao (dopo la galleria Fossino) si entra in Calabria. Tra Laino Borgo e Laino Castello è presente il viadotto Italia che, con i suoi 260 metri, è il viadotto più alto d'Italia e il secondo in Europa.
Superato lo svincolo di Mormanno è presente lo svincolo di Campotenese, dopo il quale, si raggiunge il punto più alto dell'autostrada a quota 1016 (valico di Campotenese).
Superato lo svincolo di Cosenza, l'autostrada attraversa le varie montagne in direzione Altilia, la quale si raggiunge dopo aver oltrepassato, prima dello svincolo di Rogliano, il valico di Piano Lago a quota 636. Qui troviamo un tracciato impervio risalente ai primi anni 70, con carreggiate ancora da ammodernare in quanto non conformi alle normative europee. Arrivati ad Altilia inizia il nuovo tratto ammodernato che costeggia il Tirreno fino a Pizzo Calabro e ritorna all'interno con lo svincolo di Vibo Valentia.
L'autostrada attraversa successivamente la parte costiera della piana di Rosarno e della piana di Gioia Tauro, per finire nei comuni costieri di Bagnara Calabra, Scilla, Villa San Giovanni (con imbarchi per la Sicilia) dove prosegue per Reggio Calabria tramite la A2 diramazione Reggio Calabria che si innesta a sua volta nella tangenziale di Reggio Calabria.

Nella capitale della mozzarella, fra le tappe consigliate per gustare il sapore intenso dei latticini artigianali, c’è il Caseificio Curci, guidato da Teresa Milano, imprenditrice impegnata nella ricerca e nella produzione di specialità innovative che reinterpretano i prodotti caseari con ingredienti mediterranei.

Padova - Area Sosta Camper e come scoprire la città del Santo in due giorni
Diario di un week end in camper, a riscoprire Padova, che è la nostra città.
Abbiamo voluto fare un piccolo esperimento per il quale ci siamo messi nelle stesse condizioni di un amico camperista che viene da lontano. e vuole visitare Padova, usando le strutture di accoglienza messe a disposizione dal Comune di Padova.
In questa prima parte vediamo l'Area Sosta di Pontevigodarzere, quartiere a nord di Padova, e poi con il tram raggiungiamo Prato della Valle, da dove inizia la nostra lunga passeggiata, passando per l'Orto Botanico, la Basilica di Sant'Antonio e poi lungo via del Santo.
Il primo video per motivi di spazio termina con il pranzo della giornata di sabato, ma la nostra visita tra le eccellenze storico culturali di Padova continua e ve la racconterò nelle prossime puntate. Perciò mettete la campanella per essere avvisati, appena le pubblicherò.

La basilica di San Lorenzo, il cui nome completo è basilica collegiata prepositurale di San Lorenzo Maggiore (nota in epoca paleocristiana come basilica palatina ed oggi anche come San Lorenzo alle Colonne), è una basilica cattolica di Milano. Tra le più antiche chiese della città, l'edificio fu ricostruito e modificato più volte nelle forme esterne conservando quasi completamente la primitiva pianta di epoca tardo-imperiale, che fu realizzata tra il 390 e il 410: assieme alle antistanti colonne di San Lorenzo, un tempo parte dell'antiportico dell'edificio, è considerata tra i maggiori complessi monumentali di epoca romana tardoimperiale di Milano, nel periodo in cui la città romana di Mediolanum (la moderna Milano) era capitale dell'Impero romano d'Occidente (ruolo che ricoprì dal 286 al 402). La basilica è inoltre ritenuta essere il primo edificio a simmetria centrale dell'Occidente Cristiano ed è una delle basiliche paleocristiane di Milano.
Il primigenio nome basilica palatina, poi cambiato in San Lorenzo, deriva dalla vicinanza del Palazzo imperiale romano di Milano, chiamato genericamente palatium. Il periodo tra l'XI e il XII secolo risultò molto travagliato per l'edificio: pesantemente rovinato da due incendi nel 1071 e nel 1075, la sua cupola crollò nel 1103, per poi essere di nuovo distrutta assieme a parte dell'edificio in un altro incendio nel 1124. La chiesa fu quindi ricostruita in forme romaniche pur conservando inalterato l'impianto interno originale.
Se per tutto il Medioevo la basilica di San Lorenzo rimase un simbolo dell'eredità imperiale romana a Milano, nel Rinascimento il tempio divenne un simbolo dei canoni classici perduti ricercati dagli umanisti, nonché un celebre caso di studio per le soluzioni statiche adottate per reggere una cupola così monumentale, e fu studiata tra gli altri dal Bramante, Filarete, Leonardo e Giuliano da Sangallo.
La pianta, la cui struttura è rimasta pressoché immutata dalla sua fondazione, è formata da un quadrato ed un cerchio sovrapposti, propriamente chiamato tetraconco, ovvero una pianta centrale di forma quadrata con quattro absidi, uno per lato. L'aula è quindi organizzata con una struttura concentrica alla pianta esterna a formare un deambulatorio attorno ad essa, quindi di forma ottagonale con pilatri triangolari traforati ed esedre porticate su due ordini orizzontali sovrapposti, in corrispondenza degli absidi: l'inferiore con pilastri di ordine dorico ed il superiore di ordine ionico che funge da matroneo. Dell'antica basilica paleocristiana sono giunte sino a noi la cappella di Sant'Aquilino e la cappella di Sant'Ippolito. [...]

Luna Park San Giorgio a Ferrara
Il Luna park che tutti gli anni arriva a Ferrara per la festa del Patrono San Giorgio, sembra essere maledetto dal clima. Tutti gli anni, pur essendo agli inizi di aprile, è soggetto a nebbia, freddo pioggia e, di conseguenza pantano.

Welcome to today's walk through the Ancient Agora of Athens which is situated just below the Acropolis. It was the heart of ancient Athens where everything from politics to shopping took place.
The site has been in use for thousands of years so there's a *lot* of history from over that time. So bear with us and we'll try to guide you through!
We're now walking along the Panathenaic Way which was the main thoroughfare of the city running right up to the Acropolis. It was also the processional path for the Panathenaic festival celebrated every June in honour of the goddess Athena.
= 02:17 - Stoa of Attalos =
We're now approaching on the left the Stoa of Attalos. It was built by and named after King Attalos II who ruled between 159 BC and 138 BC - though the building you can see today is a modern reconstruction.
The reconstruction took place between 1952–1956 by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. It now also houses the museum, information centre, shop and conference venue.
The Stoa was originally built as a shopping mall and a gift from King Attalos to the Athenians. It's two storeys high and built out of the same marble used for the Parthenon on Acropolis Hill. You'll see 45 doric columns along the 377ft length of the building.
Along the right, where you see the windows would have been rows of shops. You can imagine what it must have been like in ancient times - a bustling arcade of people and activities. You can see the columns are sanded flat at the bottom - which was to encourage people to lean against them!
We're now heading up the stairway to the second floor. In ancient times the second floor was mainly offices. Today it's part exhibition space and meeting venue. The entire area you can see right up the Temple of Hephaestus in the distance was the Agora.
You'll spot the columns here are in ionic style compared to the doric columns on the ground floor - which is common for Stoa.
= 08:35 - Middle Stoa =
We're now crossing the Panathenaic Way again to visit some of the ruins. This is the Middle Stoa built in 180 BC. It was approximately in the middle of the Agora dividing it into north and south areas.
The columns we're passing once supported the roof and the street would have been full of busy shops and offices. The large carved stone on the right is the capital of the Corinthian order which stood atop of a large marble column and marked the center of the Agora.
We're now passing over what was once part of Athens impressive water and drainage system
= 11:00 - The Tholos =
Coming up ahead is the Tholos. Built around 465 BC it was a round building which housed the government of Athens. It was the source of democratic rule in Athens and comprised of 50 ministers who ran day-to-day affairs
= 14:01 - Temple of Hephaestus =
Coming up ahead is the Temple of Hephaestus. It is well-preserved and remains largely intact. Started in 450 BC is was built to worship Hephaestus - the patron god of metal working, craftsmanship, and fire.
It's made of marble and surrounded by 34 columns. Around AD 700, the temple was turned into a Christian church, dedicated to Saint George

We're now coming up to the surviving torso of a statue of the Roman Emperor Hadrian who ruled Athens around 120 AD
= 20:07 - Odeon of Agrippa =
These three statues on the right guard the Odeon of Agrippa - an ancient theatre in the Agora built in 15 BC. The two-story auditorium seated around 1,000 spectators and was equipped with a raised stage. Unfortunately, the huge roof collapsed in around 150 AD.
= 22:57 - Church of the Holy Apostles =
The Church of the Holy Apostles dates back to the late 10th century. This Byzantine church is one of the oldest in Athens and was restored between 1954 and 1957.

Gravina di Riggio: la cascata
La Gravina di Riggio è un profondo vallone che si adagia tra una cascata, un laghetto e un piccolo torrente e si trova a pochi km da Grottaglie.Oltre a numerose grotte e chiese rupestri, è di particolare interesse il Caggione: una voragine circolare in prossimità della cascata sulle cui pareti a strapiombo è ben visibile un villaggio cavernicolo articolato su tre livelli sovrapposti di grotte.
