Three Unique Churches on One Special Day near Xela Guatemala

During my first visit to Quetzaltenango (Xela) I also visited the nearby village of San Andres Xecul, home of the famous yellow church. My guide Carlos Fernando took me to that town and on a hike so we could see it from above. We also visited the oldest church in Central America, as well as one located in a forest and dedicated to children with disabilities.

Waterfront walk in Flores, Guatemala

Flores is a great place to stay if you are visiting Tikal on your Guatemala adventure. You can walk around it easily in 30 minutes and one side has a great waterfront lined with restaurants and boats that will take you anywhere you want to go. Make sure to take some time to explore the island.

Things to do in Chichicastenango | Market | Church | Cemetary | Mayan Ceremony | Guatemala | Ep. 72

Let's go to Chichicastenango in Guatemala. Chichicastenango market is a famous place which is open on Thursday or Sunday only. Shuttles from travel agencies are only arranged on these 2 days accordingly. Local people normally call the place as Chichi. Tenango means the land of. It's very common to see tenango as en ending of a location name. It is 2 hours away from San Pedro. You can also go from Antigua or Xela with more or less the same time. I will show you what things to do in Chichicastenango.

The Chichicastenango market is huge! For tourist, you can find a variety of souvenirs. For local. there are fresh poultries, vegetables, fruits, grains, homewares, traditional outfits, street food, etc.

The Santa Tomas Church is such a photogenic place because it has long stairs in front of it. Over there, many venders sell different types of flowers. I watched a document of Chichi which was filmed decades ago, the scene was the same, as well as how people dressed.

Besides the church, the cemetery in Chichi is also amazing. That's the first time I really walked into a cemetery in Guatemala. It's so colorful!!! It's so different from those at home.

In Hong Kong, with the high density population, land is alway short. Most of the time, dead body will turn in to ashes and it takes year to apply for a public space. I heard a rumour that people rent a safe in a bank to settle their love ones. I am not sure if it is true or not, but there is also a waiting list for renting a safe.

One of the purpose that I wanted to go to Chichi was because of the Mayan ceremony. I knew 2 places conducted the ceremony and I went there to try my luck.

At last, I didn't see any. But when I went to Casa Tzocoma. The very nice lady there showed me around the area and explained a lot of things to me. It was such an interesting experience.

I filmed it in Sept or Oct last year. The weather was very cloudy, so the great color wasn't shown properly.

Description in English and Spanish Below. Subtitles are available in English and Spanish. Descripción en inglés y español a continuación. Los subtítulos están disponibles en Inglés y Español.

???????? - In this travel guide we give our first impressions from Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) Guatemala in Central America.

If you enjoy this tour from around Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) Guatemala then be sure to subscribe to see our upcoming videos from across Guatemala.

You should add Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) Guatemala to your travel wishlist! In this Guatemala travel guide and Guatemala vlog we will show you this major hub for tourism in Central America. This is the country of eternal spring.

We show you what to do, and things to do in Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) Guatemala, such as strolling through markets. We hope this video gives you perspective and maybe changes your mind about Antigua, in which you can decide if Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) is safe to visit. In this Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) Guatemala Travel Vlog and travel guide we give you a tour through the crowds of people and talk with the locals and show you first hand that Guatemala is safe.

Today in Guate, we try some 'Comida Tipica' (typical local food). The Mayan population know it as Xelaju. On a recent weekend trip here in Guatemala we visited Quetzaltenango and Chichicastenango. About a 30 minute drive from the center of Quetzaltenango, is Iglesia de San Andrés Xecul.

From San Andres Xecul we returned to Quetzaltenango. Here we saw the Minerva temple. In the background you can clearly see one of the many volcanoes of Guatemala. Today, after showing you around Quetzaltenango, we will take a local bus to Chichicastenango, where we will shop the LARGEST market in Central America. This market comes alive on Thursdays and Sundays, and thankfully, we will be exploring on a Sunday. We will learn a lot about the traditional clothing, we will eat local food, and we will even witness some Mayan rituals.

For the first time in our travels we are in Central America. We are now in the heart of the Maya World. Guatemala is a country that promotes peace, architecture and culture. Today in Quetzaltenango (Xela) and Chichicastenango (Chichi) we will go shopping in the markets, eat some food, and explore.
