Aam Khas Bagh at Sirhind The earliest extant Mughal garden all over the Punjab and Haryana is the one at Sirhind, currently known as the Aam Khas Bagh.In fact, it is a garden, a palace and a royal sarai, all in one. The origin of this garden can be traced to the period of Akbar. Sultan Hafiz Rakhna of Herat, the then shiqdar (superintendent) of Sirhind, laid out this garden and erected many other buildings which according to Badaoni, had no parallel in Hind. The first reference to the garden that we come across, was made by Father S.J. Monserrate, the leader of the tirst Jesuit Mission to the court of Akbar. He visited Sirhind in 1580 A.D. and saw the garden for himself. Since Akbar who visited the city in 1556 A.D., does not make any mention of it, this garden appears to have been laid out, most probably, sometime between 1556 and 1580 A.D. After Hafiz Rakhna's death in 1000 A.H./1592 A.D. this garden passed through many hands. In 1617 A.D., Jahangir appointed Khwaja Waisi, the karori (collector of reserved revenue) of Sirhind to keep up the garden, because he was well acquainted with the science of horticulture as well as of buildings. He was specially instructed by the emperor to remove all the trees that had no freshness and to put in fresh ones, to clean up the iraqbandi to repair the old buildings and to erect new ones in the shape of baths, etc., in appropriate places. In the Badshahnama, Abdul Hamid Lahori records Shah Jahan's five visits to Sirhind. On his visit in 1628 A.D. he stayed here for five days, During his stay, he ordered the erection of a few more buildings including Daulat Khana-i-Khas (personal palace), Jharokha Mubarik
(lattice window), Khabgah (sleeping apartments) and Mehtabi Chabutara (moonlit platform) on the sides of the tank. With the advent of Aurangzeb, a puritan zealot, an era of religious persecution commenced. After the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh's innocent children at the hands of Wazir Khan, the governor of Sirhind, in 1704 A.D., this city attracted the wrath of the Sikhs. In 1708 A.D., Banda Bahadur sacked Sirhind and killed Wazir Khan. Later, this city was plundered many times by the irate bands of the Sikhs, the last being in 1763 A.D. when Sirhind was annihilated. It is, therefore, obvious that the Aam Khas Bagh must also have suffered at the hands of the Sikhs. The northern gate served as the main entrance to the first and second enclosures. From this gate begins the first quadrangle of the garden complex, 179 m. by 122 m. in area. It is enclosed by a four metre high wall of brick, adorned with serrated battlements. Each of the four corners of this enclosure is marked by a projected octagonal bastion surmounted by a domed pavilion. On the inner side of the gateway is an extension of the gate, in the form of a house. It appears to be a much later addition made probably when this gate was no longer in use as an entrance. In the centre of this frst quadrangle is the Mehtabi Chabutara, raised under the orders of Shah Jahan. It is a double terraced square platform. On each of its sides is a water chute, down which water rippled from one level to the other platform the emperor may have used to enjoy the spectacle of a moonlit night. Also, here he may have held his court in the open. Through an opening in the southern wall of the first enclosure, we enter the second one which measures 183 m. by 145 m. In its centre is a tank, 98 m. by 85 m. in span with a flight of eight steps on all the four sides. An arched bridge passes over it. This bridge has an octagonal plat- form in its centre and two screen walls on its eastern and western sides. Monserrate mentions a tower in the middle of the tank, from which a pleasant view of the tank and the surrounding garden could be enjoyed. To William Finch, it was a 'summer house'.Fray Sebas- tian Manrique who came here in 1641 A.D., describes it as a 'circular chapel'.

According to legend, Bassi Pathana was founded in 1540. As the name suggests, it was a city of Muslim Pathans. Bassi Pathana was visited by 9th Sikh master Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and 10th Sikh Master Guru Gobind Singh Ji. There is one Historical Gurdwara (Sikh temple) in the city in their memory. A temple of Sh. Namdev Ji is also situated in this city. This historic city has one temple named as Brahmghat, where a sage called Rishi Ajgawanand is said to have meditated here for years. During one of those meditation sessions someone came to check whether he is really meditating or not and put his leg in the Agni (Fire) which is traditionally lit while meditating. He was so involved in meditation that he did not realize that he had lost his leg in the fire. When his disciples saw that he had lost his leg, they made a leg of wood and brass. He was so delighted with this gesture that he blessed this city and said that no misfortune can ever strike this city. If a misfortune is sensed then this leg (after his death) should be moved through each house and misfortune will go away. Bassi pathana city also had an old railway station which was built during the Britishers rule in India. Its popular temple is Usha Mata Mandir near Brahmghat. This city also has an historic lord shiva temple named Prachin Shiv Mandir (Subzi Mandi) situated in the main bazaar of Bassi Pathana near the main post office. Moreover, India's first sewing machine was manufactured by Pt. Ramjidass in 1925. There are now many factories that make sewing machine parts, one of the oldest well-known manufacturer is eye brand Industries which is recognized as the best and leading in the region for its quality products run by pt.ramjidass and it's sons.

Aam Khas Bagh | Sirhind | Fatehgarh Sahib

Aam Khas Bagh | Sirhind | Fatehgarh Sahib |

History ::--
There are two unknown tombs present in the vicinity of Sirhind. However, there is no clue at all about these two tombs as no authentic written records are present in the historical registers of Sirhind about whose tombs these are. From their style of construction, I assume that they belong to the Lodi era similar to the tomb of Taj Bibi (a Lodi era tomb, present in Sirhind). Even Alexander Cunningham, during his visits to Sirhind, has not recorded anything about these two tombs in his reports. According to the locals, these two tombs were built over the graves of horses and elephants. The belief has its origin probably because of the rich history of Sirhind as a battlefield on numerous occasions in the past. There are two graves present in both the mausoleums. There exists a large grave in tomb 2 of a height about 6 feet, maybe this was the reason, locals assumed that it would be the grave of an elephant . Both these tombs are built with Sirhindi bricks. Half the dome of unknown tomb 1 has collapsed, as, by the account of Dr. Subhash Parihar, during his visit to Sirhind in 1980, the dome was still standing. But in 1988, heavy rains brought down the dome through sheer neglect . Tomb 2 does not have a dome and I personally am of the opinion that the dome was never ever erected (eg. Itutmish's tomb in the Qutub Complex). The plan of tomb 1 is square, each side measuring 10.8 m outside and 7.3 m inside, and tomb 2 is also a square structure of 11.6 m from the outside. The 2.2 m thick walls of the building enclose a 7.5m square chamber (Parihar, 2006). Both the tombs are surrounded by the agricultural fields and are stand opposite each other. Tomb 1, surrounded by a small 3 feet high boundary wall and a few steps on the west side. There are a few graves in one portion of the tomb 1 complex. Tomb 2 does not have any outer boundary walls. These unknown tombs are located about 2 km in distance from Rauza Sharif and 0.5 km before the tomb of Ustad. Currently located in Talanian village, they are accessible through the road crossing the fields and proceeding towards the tomb of Ustad. Presently the tomb is under the Archaeological Survey of India. Just like the other tombs, the locals pay their respects. A chadar covers all the graves of both the tombs.

Floating Resturant, Ludhiana Punjab Tourism Sirhind Punjab

Welcome to PUNJAB

Deriving its name from five full-bodied rivers–Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Jhelum, and Chenab–which flow through its vast plains, Punjab is representative of abundant things. Located on the north-western edge of India, it is one of the smaller albeit prosperous states of the nation, and home to a lively, hospitable and dynamic people. Widely acknowledged as the cradle of civilization, it is a land of ethnic and religious diversity, having borne and shaped a number of religious movements that include Sikhism, Buddhism and Sufism. The Punjabi language, too, finds its origin in the Indo-European linguistic family that includes Persian and Latin. Naturally replete with fertile soils and rich water sources, it is primarily an agricultural state, and has continually and infinitely contributed towards the food security of the Indian Republic. Punjab’s many festivals–Teej, Lohri, Basant, and Baisakhi, to name some–are celebrations that mirror the farming ethos. Indeed, Bhangra, the traditional dance of Punjab revolves around, and replicates a farmer’s daily life. Historically, Punjab has played host to a number of ethnicities, including the Aryans, Persians, Greeks, Afghans and Mongols, thus bestowed with a rich tangible heritage. Reflecting this history are the countless sites that dot the state: impressive forts & palaces, ancient monuments, architectural marvels and many a battlefield.

Buddhist Stupa Sanghol/Dec 12/Vlog 11/AnkitCVlogs/Ankit Chadha #buddhism #punjab #historyofpunjab

Sanghol is a historical village located in Fatehgarh Sahib District of Punjab, India predating to Harrapan civilisation. It is also known as Uchha Pind Sanghol. It is about 40 km from Chandigarh on the way to Ludhiana and approximately 10 km from Dholewal. This place holds a special position on the archaeological atlas of India.[1] Excavations at the site have yielded coins and seals related to Toramana and Mihirakula belonging to central Asia. A Buddhist stupa was excavated in 1968, but in February 1985 a rich treasure of 117 beautiful carved stone slabs, which includes 69 pillars, 35 crossbars, figures and figurines, was excavated by the experts of the Directorate of Archaeology, Punjab. Scholars have explained them as Kushan sculptures of the Mathura school of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. These treasures have since been displayed for art lovers and historians in Sanghol Museum. Many of the art pieces from this museum often go on display as special exhibits at various museums around the world.

Situated on the top of a mound, Ucha Pind Sanghol is spread over an area of 200 km.

Shivagiri

Shivagiri, a place that houses a 85 feet long and 1500 ton statue of lord Shiva, which is considered to be among one of the largest statues of lord Shiva in India.

There is a small temple dedicated to lord Shiva that houses right below the huge statue.

This is situated at around 3kms from the Bijapur city

There is a thematic park that has been developed around this statue with beautiful lawns, which are very neatly maintained. there is also separate amusement park for the children.

The entire place is maintained by T.K. Patil Banakatti charitable trust which also carries out a lot of charity related activities around this place.

This place is favorite among the locals as many families wish to spend their evenings here.

The place also has a few outlets inside the park serving the local delacies.
