SALINAS… Seafood Capital of Puerto Rico [2024]

Salinas is, without a doubt, the seafood capital of Puerto Rico (I’m biased). It was also one of Puerto Rico’s sugar cane capitals. But that was so “last century”. The food thing is RIGHT NOW!!!

In this video we explore the “Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate” Parish, City Hall, “Las Delicias” square with its wonderful salt shakers, the Aguirre Sugar Cane plantation, el “Albergue Olímpico”, the “Monumento al Jíbaro”, “Las Tetas de Cayey” and —of course— the “Barrio La Playa” where you find the best seafood anywhere on the Island.

Salinas, Puerto Rico

TOP 10 Foods You MUST Eat In Puerto Rico! | AND Exactly Where To Get Authentic Puerto Rican Food!

Traveling to another country can be a life-changing experience. If you do it right, you get the opportunity to not only see a country's monuments and attractions but also experience its culture and lifestyle. One extremely important aspect of a country's culture is its food, and this is no exception for Puerto Rico.

Our traditional criollo cuisine plays an integral role in every cultural activity and family gathering. Similar to the people of Puerto Rico, our traditional cuisine has a rich history resulting from the blend of our African, Taíno, and Spanish ancestor's traditions resulting in what legendary Spanish Chef Jose Andrés described as one of the most interesting cuisines in the world!

With so many delicious food options to choose from, it's difficult to know where to start. But, don't worry, in this video, I'll show you my picks for the top 10 traditional Puerto Rican foods and precisely where to get them!

In this video, we'll first stop at the community of Piñones where we'll get some authentic Puerto Rican fritters called alcapurrias, bacalaitos, and empanadillas. After taking a dip on the beach under the sun we get a refreshing piña colada at an oceanfront restaurant. Then we travel to Lote 23 in the heart of Santurce where we try the delicious mofongo with fried meat. Then we head over to Bebo's BBQ for a plate of pernil, yuca and amarillitos. We finish the video off by tasting some delicious Puerto Rican coffee and pairing it with the authentic Puerto Rican pastry called quesitos.

“Salitral” at Salt Flats/ Las Salinas. Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. October 2022.

Casually called: “pink beach” is an amazing place to visit in Cabo Rojo. Plan a day and stop at “Centro Interpretativo las Salinas de Cabo Rojo”, then go down road PR-301 and stop at salt flats. Look out for an open entrance, you are not trespassing. Continue the main road to “Los Morillos Lighthouse” and “La Playuela” (dirty beach). Many interesting places to visit in one day. Check out for my future videos of “Centro interpretativo Las Salinas” and “Los Morillos lighthouse”. Did not go to “ La Playuela”.(which I regret) instead stopped at the Salt Flats again. The water was at its most vibrant pink hue in that afternoon sunny day.
Roads are really bad. Once you leave the salt flats roads are dangerous, big holes. I almost turned around and was going to miss “Los Morillos Lighthouse”. I’m glad I didn’t. Some cars turned around.
