The city has an ancient history: the first settlements on this site belong to the Bronze Age.

Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines Gem & Mineral Show 2008 - The Walk
A walk over the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines gem & mineral show held in June 2008. Starting at the entrance of Val d´ Argent Expo, going down Transsylvania Alley (named because of the great number of Romanian dealers) over Rue Osmont into the front yard of the school (Lyceum) through the school building into the courtyard ending in a tent with Navajun Pyrite cubes (Minas Victoria).
This show occupies an entire quarter of the small pittoresque town in the Alsace mountains of France and is at least number 2 in Europe (always fighting with Munich about beeing number 1 !) For more information look under

Riquewihr (deutsch Reichenweier) ist eine französiche Gemeinde mit 1061 Einwohner, an der Elsässer Weinstraße im Osten Frankreichs. Riquewihr liegt im Département Haut-Rhin in der Europäischen Gebietskörperschaft Elsass und in der Region Grand Est. Sie gehört zum Arrondissement Colmar-Ribeauvillé, zum Kanton Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines und zum Gemeindeverband Pays de Ribeauvillé. Riquewihr wurde auf Grund seines unversehrt erhaltenen Stadtbildes aus dem 16. Jahrhundert als einer der Plus beaux villages de France (schönste Dörfer Frankreichs) klassifiziert. Riquewihr ist bedeutend wegen seiner einmaligen Altstadt, die mitsamt den Befestigungsanlagen nahezu komplett erhalten ist. Ihre Kopfsteinpflasterstraßen sind von Fachwerkhäusern mit Weinhandlungen und Degustationsräumen gesäumt. In der Maison de Vigneron, die aus dem 16. Jahrhundert stammt, sind Geräte zur Weinherstellung und eine restaurierte Küche ausgestellt. Im Dolder, einem Turm aus dem Jahr 1291, ist das Musée du Dolder mit seinen jahrhundertealten Waffen untergebracht. Im Diebesturm aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, der einst als Gefängnis diente, sind Folterinstrumente zu sehen.

The route of ridges was created during World War I for a strategic purpose to provide logistics and defense on the front of the Vosges.
The route of ridges is 88 kilometers long road between Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines in the north and Uffholtz in the south.
Its highest point is 1,343m at the Grand Ballon

北のサント・マリー・オー・ミンから南のウッフホルツへと88km続きます。
アルザス地方最高峰となるル・グラン・バロン(Le Grand Ballon)は標高1,343mを誇ります。
La route des Crêtes fut créée pendant la Première Guerre mondiale dans un but stratégique afin d’assurer la logistique et la défense sur le front des Vosges.
La route des Crêtes des Vosges est longue de 88 kilomètres entre Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines au nord et Uffholtz au sud.
Son point le plus élevé est à 1 343m au passage du Grand Ballon

Notre ROAD-TRIP en VAN dans le GRAND EST (Alsace et Vosges) se termine par la superbe Route des Crêtes dans le massif des Vosges, vous connaissez ? ???? Elle a été crée en 1914 par les services du génie militaire français. À l’époque cette voie stratégique dessert les lignes à l’arrière du front.

Nous ne sommes pas les premiers à emprunter cette ROUTE REMARQUABLE qui traverse le MASSIF des Vosges, c’est le paradis des motos, des vélos et des camping-cars ! ????
????Le jour de l’anniversaire de Simon, on a démarré ce ROAD-TRIP de 90 kilomètres à Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines (Haut-Rhin, Alsace).
????Dans le Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges, on a vite pris de la hauteur pour apprécier de superbes panoramas. Et les cols se sont enchaînés : Col du Bonhomme, Col de la Schlucht, Le Honeck, Le Markstein, Col du Grand Ballon… ????
????Après un bon (mais lourd) REPAS MARCAIRE dans une AUBERGE de MONTAGNE typique, nous sommes partis en RANDONNÉE rejoindre un belvédère pour admirer le LAC BLANC : la VUE était DINGUE ! ????
Notre journée s’est termine au point culminant, le SOMMET du GRAND BALLON, le point le plus haut de cette ROUTE des CRÊTES : 1424 mètres.
????????Et le lendemain, nous sommes allés au Hartmannswillerkopf (Viel Armand), la « Montagne de la Mort », site emblématique de la Première Guerre Mondiale qui surplombe la plaine d’Alsace et où sont morts dans les combats près de 25 000 morts. ????????
