St-Paul de Vence in the south of France

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
St-Paul de Vence in the South of France is one of the best preserved and prettiest medieval villages in all of Europe. We're going to take you on a walk straight through the middle of St-Paul on the main pedestrian lane from one end of town to the other and later working to show you all the little side streets. Located on the Cote d'Azur along the French Riviera in Provence, this village is one of the prettiest in Europe. The cobblestone lanes here are among the finest that you will ever see.
When you reach the far end of the main lane you exit through another gateway arch and then there's a staircase that leads your right up onto the wall with a lovely viewing platform where you can see across the distant landscape.
The walks round the walls are in part wider, and the small gardens of the houses sloping down to them, with the dark foliage and golden fruit of their orange groves, form a beautiful foreground to the lovely views that are visible off in the distance in every direction.
Saint-Paul de Vence's town wall dates from the 16th century as we see it today and it hugs the contours of the rocky spur on which the village stands, forming a 1 km perimeter that has undergone only slight modifications since the 16th century.
We have created many more movies about this area, the Côte d'Azur, the French Riviera that you can find on our channel, so have a look. You'll see programs about Cannes and Monaco, Monte Carlo, St-Paul, Vence, Villefrance, all around through the region including Antibes, and we really enjoy using Nice as our home base to explore this entire region.

Loire Valley Châteaux, France, Complete Tour

Loire
The world's most famous collection of palaces is in the Loire Valley outside of Paris in France. It is a UNESCO World Heritage area and it has dozens of beautiful mansions that you can explore. We will bring you to the very best with some tips for your visit.

Chenonceau 1:08
Chenonceau is the most-visited château of the Loire Valley, France, and is the only one built across a river.
Chenanceau is most famous for its setting across the river. It’s as if the building formed a sort of island or ship moored in the rapidly running Cher River, which joins with the Loire River a few miles away. Our series about the châteaux of the Loire is also bringing you to Amboise, Chambord, Cheverny, Azay and Blois and a few other places, with our home base in the city of Tours.

Amboise 5:00
Amboise, in the Loire Valley, France, has two châteaux and a charming old town with souvenir shops and some excellent restaurants in a pedestrian.
Visit both the big castle and Clos Lucé, most famous as the final home of Leonardo da Vinci. You actually get to walk through Leonardo’s bedroom and his study, you can see the desk that he sat at – it’s really quite inspiring. Leonardo was already over 60 years old when he left Italy in 1516 to relocate to the château where he was supported in fine style by the king of France.
Amboise is famous for the grand château that was once the home of the French royal court. Francis the First was succeeded by his son Henry II who was succeeded by his son Francis the second, and he brought his young bride Mary Stuart, the Queen of the Scots, to the château.

Chambord 8:54
Chambord is the finest of all the châteaux in the Loire, France, and the largest.
The château to end all châteaux, a masterpiece, perhaps the greatest architectural triumph the French Renaissance ever created.
This is a dream place to visit, 156 meters long, 117 wide and 56 meters tall with 426 rooms, 77 staircases, 282 fireplaces, more than 800 sculpted columns and with massive towers at each corner. It's second in size only to the Château of Versailles, making this one of the great national monuments of the country.
The first thing you'll see inside is one of the main architectural highlights, a spectacular double spiral staircase – it's the centerpiece of the château. It forms a double helix with two intertwined flights of steps ascending three floors, without ever meeting.

Cheverny 14:15
Château Cheverny is another top tourist attraction of the Loire, renowned for magnificent interiors and its dog kennels.
In the past the château was a homelike and peaceful abode for many centuries, protected from the world beyond.
Amazingly, the château owners are descendants of the same family who originally built it in the early 17th century.
One hundred dogs live at Cheverny, so be sure to have a look at them. They can be seen all day during your visit.

Azay-le-Rideau 16:12
We’re at the Château of Azay-le-Rideau, which is one of the beautiful châteaux of the Loire Valley. There are half a dozen major castles that you want to be sure to get a look at, and certainly Azay is one of those. The setting is spectacular – the gardens around it are beautiful and there's a moat formed by a small river that surrounds most of the château, so when you visit here you want to be sure not only to see the interior but to walk around, all around the outside.

Chinon 18:29
Driving through the main shopping lane of the historic town of Chinon, in the Loire, France, gives us a quick preview of the lanes in which we'll soon be taking a little walk. It's primarily a pedestrian zone but our tour van has permission to bring us in here and then drop us off – very convenient for us

Blois 22:11
The French city of Blois in the Loire Valley has one of the largest and most interesting of the châteaux of the Loire Valley, built up in a variety of architectural styles over its 700 year period. It was home to many of the kings and queens of France. And there is also a very friendly pedestrian center to the town.
Because so many powerful kings lived here and were associated with the château, it was built up over the centuries in a variety of architectural styles. This one building exhibits the medieval and the Renaissance and then the French classic style later of François Mansart.

Tours 27:17
You’ll find the city of Tours is a very good home base for staying a few days, and from here you can easily explore the Loire Valley, and visit the many illustrious Château that are in the region. Most of the major attractions are within 30 to 40 minutes away from Tours – it's very convenient either by train or by private Tours company.

???????? Orléans - City of Joan of Arc, France, Amazing Walking Tour, 4K/60fps With Captions

➡️ *Orléans* is a city in north-central France, about 120 kilometres (74 miles) southwest of Paris.
It is the prefecture of the department of _Loiret_ and of the region of _Centre-Val de Loire._
Orléans is located on the river Loire nestled in the heart of the _Loire Valley, classified as a World Heritage Site,_ where the river curves south towards the Massif Central.

The city owes its development from antiquity to the commercial exchanges resulting from the river.
An important river trade port, it was the headquarters of the community of merchants frequenting the Loire.
It was the capital of the Kingdom of France during the Merovingian period and played an important role in the *Hundred Years' War,* particularly known for the role of *Joan of Arc* during the siege of Orléans.
Every first week of May since 1432, the city pays homage to the _Maid of Orléans_ during the Johannic Holidays which has been listed in the inventory of intangible cultural heritage in France.
One of Europe's _oldest universities_ was created in 1306 by Pope Clement V and re-founded in 1966 as the University of Orléans, hosting more than 20,000 students in 2019.

The _Île d'Orléans in Quebec, Canada,_ takes its name from Orléans, as do _Orléans, Ontario_ and the city of _New Orleans, Louisiana._

Amboise, France - Walking Tour - 4K UHD Walks

Amboise is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department in central France.

Located on the banks of the Loire, the city owes its fame to the castle of Amboise which dominates it, the Clock Tower, the Saint-Denis church, the castle of Clos Lucé where Leonardo da Vinci died, the royal domain of Château-Gaillard built by Charles VIII in 1496 (including the gardens landscaped by Pacello da Mercogliano) and the pagoda of Chanteloup . His name is also attached to the bloody conjuration of Amboise of March 1560.

It is one of the eleven wine-growing communes of the Touraine-Amboise Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) area.

Amboise is located in the perimeter of the Loire Valley listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Amboise extends, for the most part, on the south bank of the Loire, at a place where the river separates into two arms. It encloses an island (called Île Saint-Jean, in memory of a priory battered by floods, Grande-Île or Île-d'Or), which is part of the communal territory.

The edge of the Loire in Amboise.
The city is protected from the floods of the Loire, to the south, north, west and east by very powerful dikes located next to the port (promenade du Mail, in strong elevation compared to the first houses). The suburb established on the vast island was confined to its highest part and defended from the high waters by a dike (1780).

The ancient city is overlooked by the plateau on which its castle is established.

Amboise developed north of the Loire, with the station district, but also in the south where in 1946, the commune absorbed the neighboring saint-Denis-Hors2.

Paris is 230 km away.

Weekend trip from Paris to the Loire Valley

0:00 Intro
0:35 A short walk in Tours
2:15 Amboise castle, gardens and Loire
5:59 Clos Luce castle, gardens and Loire
7:28 Why castles were built in the Loire valley?

9:10 Blois castle
11:28 A walk in Blois
14:14 Orleans

Loire Valley is quite a unique area in France with about 300 castles and a very reach history which simply made us to visit at least a few places during the weekend trip from Paris. We only scratched the surface by stopping by the Amboise, Chamont, Clos Luce and Blois castles and quickly visiting Tours, Blois and Orleans. Although each of these places do deserve much more time than we had during our trip - we are still very happy to be able to see all of them in person! And - we definitely will be back!

And, quoting Wikipedia:

The Loire Valley (French: Vallée de la Loire, pronounced [vale də la lwaʁ]), spanning 280 kilometres (170 mi),[1] is located in the middle stretch of the Loire river in central France, in both the administrative regions Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire. The area of the Loire Valley comprises about 800 square kilometres (310 sq mi).[2] It is referred to as the Cradle of the French and the Garden of France due to the abundance of vineyards, fruit orchards (such as cherries), and artichoke, and asparagus fields, which line the banks of the river.[3] Notable for its historic towns, architecture, and wines, the valley has been inhabited since the Middle Palaeolithic period.[2] In 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire River valley to its list of World Heritage Sites.

A Look At the Beautiful Village of Roissy-en-France

Roissy-En-France is a commune in the northeastern suburbs of Paris, France, in the Val-d'Oise department. It is located 20.7 km (12.9 mi) from the center of Paris.

One-quarter of Charles de Gaulle Airport (France's main airport) but none of the terminals is in the commune of Roissy-en-France, which gave its original name to the airport. Later renamed Charles de Gaulle Airport, the airport is still commonly referred to as Roissy Airport in France. The rest of the airport lies on the territory of the commune of Tremblay-en-France and several other communes.

In Roissy-en-France , France refers not to the country of France but to an area of the historical province of Île-de-France. Île-de-France was made up of several areas: Pays de France, Hurepoix, Mantois, etc. Pays de France was the fertile plain located immediately north of the city of Paris, with the city of Saint-Denis at its centre. Pays de France is now almost entirely built up and is covered by the northern suburbs of Paris. Pays de France is also known as Parisis and as the plaine de France (plain of France), and its name still appears in the name of some communes in the northern suburbs of Paris, such as Roissy-en-France (which literally means Roissy in the Pays de France).
