Visit Lafayette, Louisiana

Lafayette is at the heart of Louisiana’s Cajun & Creole Country, an area known as the Happiest City in America. Their history dates back to the 18th century, when Canada’s Acadians were expelled and settled in Louisiana. More than two centuries later tourists visit for a rare taste of the genuine Acadian experience.

Lafayette has a distinct culinary identity as the epicenter of Cajun cuisine that’s earned them the title Best Food City in the USA. Lafayette’s culinary scene is steeped in tradition and continues to evolve with a new generation of chefs making it an incredible place to eat.

No matter what time of year you visit Lafayette they will have something for you to celebrate. It doesn’t take long to get hooked on Lafayette’s Cajun and Zydeco music and there’s never a shortage of dance partners if you want to try your hand at a two-step or waltz.

Top Things to Do on Avery Island, Louisiana

I recently visited Avery Island in partnership with Tabasco. Here are the top things to do on Avery Island, Louisiana

►Tabasco:

Avery Island is an island in the middle of the bayou in southern Louisiana and this is the home of Tabasco since 1868.

We first visited the Tabasco Museum to learn about the history of the company. Next up we visited the Tabasco pepper fields. From there we headed to see the aging, blending and bottling rooms.

Afterwards we had lunch at 1868. Their entire menu is Tabasco inspired! We then visited Jungle Gardens. You can't visit Louisiana and not take an airboat ride on the bayou, and that's exactly what we did.

Lastly we took a cooking course at 1868. We learned how to make a salad, chicken wings, crawfish and Tabasco ice cream. That was one of the best ice creams I have ever had!
