Isabela de Sagua, apodada La Venecia de Cuba (La Venecia cubana , es un pueblo cubano del municipio de Sagua la Grande , en Provincia de Villa Clara .
En 2011 tenía una población de 3.187.
El pueblo fue fundado en 1843 como puerto y aduana de Sagua y, 5 años después, fue habilitado para el comercio internacional de importación.
Ubicada en una península , al oeste de la desembocadura del río Sagua la Grande y junto a una laguna , Isabela se encuentra sobre la Costa Atlántica , frente al archipiélago Jardines del Rey . Está rodeada por un pantano , que se extiende alrededor de la península.
Dista 11 km de Nueva Isabela, 17 de Sagua , 27 de los Mogotes de Jumagua , 36 de Cifuentes y 66 de Santa Clara .

Trip through Cuba (with useful tips in comments)
Trip through Cuba goes like this: Varadero - Matanzas - Havana - Vinales - Cayo Jutias - Havana - Cienfuegos - Trinidad - Sancti Spiritus - Camaguey - Santiago de Cuba.
It took two weeks for three friends to have fantastic and unforgettable time in this picturesque country.
Top places to visit mainstream:
- Havana
- Varadero
- Vinales
- Trinidad
Hidden gems:
- Cayo Jutias
- Cienfuegos
- Sancti Spiritus
Advice:
- Bring Euros, not dollars. Even if you travel from US (Much better exchange rate)
- Don't go to places locals suggest you and offer to take you there
- If prices look suspicious, you are being ripped off. If you see locals sitting next to you, ask to have a look at their menu.
- Bargin for transportation. If you don't manage to get good price, go to bus station to locals, there will be hustlers that will offer to take you for much cheaper.
- Wi-Fi/Internet - If you are in a park and see a lot of young people with phones, ask them where is internet dealer. For couple of CUC you will manage to get internet.
- You can get local pesos in local bank without any problem
- If you stay in casa, ask owner to find you casa in the next city you are going to. But you will get the same price there that you paid for the one you are staying. (Good price - 15 CUC per room, OK price 20 CUC per room, So so price 25 CUC per room, Expensive 30 CUC per room).
- Cigars, dont get ripped off paying for banana leafs. Buy at trustworthy spots.
- Don't expect to have good mojitos in Cuba, actually totally opposite, worst I ever had.
- Try places where locals eat - authentic food for bargain price. Normally restaurants would be 10-15 CUC per person. In window shops or similar, you could get pizza or sandwich for 1 CUC.

Country rating: 4/5 - somehow you don't like it that much when you are there, feels exhausting meanwhile some moments are just amazing. But once you get out and think back, you realise how amazing that place is. It's definitely in the world's top 10 must visit places.

El Camino del Cimarron--El Barrancon del Ingenio Santa Teresa (Hector Rodriguez)
On the day before I started my inaugural walk establishing the Camino del Cimarron, Miguel, Maykel and I visited the historic Santa Teresa in the Sitiecito neighborhood of Sagua la Grande. The barrancon where Esteban was born and his family worked and lived is still around in spirit, after countless renovations. This was the first visit to Esteban's birth place by Miguel.
The trek, El Camino del Cimarron, is my attempt at creating a lived experience around the most edited book in Cuban history, Biografia de un Cimarron (1966, Barnet).
