Sélestat (French:Alsatian: Schlettstàdt; German: Schlettstadt) is a cooperative in the Great Est district of France. A regulatory division (sous-préfecture) of the Bas-Rhin division, the town lies on the Evil stream, 17 kilometres (11 mi) from the Rhine and the German boundary. Sélestat is situated between the most significant communities of Alsace, Strasbourg and Mulhouse.

Built in the 12th century , Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has witnessed for centuries conflicts and rivalries between lords, kings and emperors.
Successive illustrious owners have marked its history, and many events that have changed its appearance...
Going through the high gate of Haut-Koenigsbourg means plunging into the world of the Middle Ages .
From the lower courtyard - with its inn, its forge and its mill - to the spiral staircases which lead to the furnished apartments of the lord, discover architecture, furniture... but also a whole atmosphere steeped in history.
The drawbridge, armory, dungeon and cannons are constant reminders of the vocation of this mountain fortress built by a German imperial family in the 12th century , which was subsequently besieged, destroyed and looted.
Abandoned after 1633, this prestigious castle was offered in 1899 by the town of Sélestat to Guillaume II de Hohenzollern . He who dreams of resuscitating the old Germanic empire, will satisfy his passion for the Middle Ages by entrusting the restoration of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle to the architect Bodo Ebhardt , a specialist in medieval fortifications.
At the start of the 20th century , the political dimension of this major project was to legitimize the very young imperial dynasty of the Hohenzollerns and affirm the power of the new empire in the eyes of the world.
