Sète ???????? Most Beautiful Places in France ???? Enchanting Mediterranean Port Walking Tour ????

???? Sète is a major port city in the southeast French region of Occitanie. It's bordered by the Étang de Thau, a biodiverse saltwater lagoon. Across a narrow isthmus, Sète's Mediterranean coast is lined with sandy beaches. The top of Mont St Clair offers views of the city, known as Venice of the Languedoc for its canal network. The Musée Paul Valéry has displays on the history of Sète, plus an art collection.

Experience Sète with its canals lined by colorful buildings and crossed by drawbridges and swing bridges. Enjoy Watching the bustling trade port, old port, marina, colorful Catalan boats, La Pointe Courte, the real fishermen's neighborhood and the Quartier Haut which feels like Southern Italy.

In the 1850s, fishermen from Gaeta and Cetara, villages on the Amalfi coast near Naples, left Italy, driven by the need to find a better life: they settled in the South of France, particularly in Sète and Grau du Roi.

In Sète, water is everywhere. The activity linked to the sea is essential for the local economy, thanks to its port, the first for fishing in the Mediterranean, thanks to its fish auction, and its fleet of tuna boats and trawlers, and also thanks to small-scale fishing with nets, at sea and in the pond.

In Sète, the jousts were born with the port on July 29th 1666. An old maritime tradition, therefore, a living culture itself, which has its own codes, its own vocabulary, its rituals, its music. Perched on the tintaine at the top of the boats, equipped with a spear and a bulwark, the players all aspire to win the Saint-Louis, the most prestigious of tournaments. An extremely spectacular sport where family transmission is the order of the day. Seven societies and a school of jousting help to keep this tradition firmly rooted. From mid-June to early September, beyond folklore and tradition, the jousting reflects the soul of the Sète people.

FOODIE HERITAGE: Don't Forget to satisfy your tastebuds with fishermen's dishes????
Sète's specialities come from local, Catalan, Italian and Spanish fishermen getting together at the port. Tielle is the most famous one! On the Quai de la Marine you'll find countless seafood restaurants where you can sample wonderful shellfish from Thau Lake. Mussels and stuffed squid, macaronade (meaty macaroni), cuttlefish in rouille and more..

Nuestra cocina es sobre todo una cocina de pescadores que se ha enriquecido con los conocimientos culinarios de los catalanes, genoveses, napolitanos, españoles y pieds-noirs que se han establecido en Sète a lo largo de los años.

10 Best Places To Visit In France - Travel Guide

France, officially the French Republic (French: République française) is a country located primarily in Western Europe. It also includes overseas regions and territories in the Americas and the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans,[XII] giving it one of the largest discontiguous exclusive economic zones in the world. Its metropolitan area extends from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean and from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea; overseas territories include French Guiana in South America, Saint Pierre and Miquelon in the North Atlantic, the French West Indies, and many islands in Oceania and the Indian Ocean. Its eighteen integral regions (five of which are overseas) span a combined area of 643,801 km2 (248,573 sq mi) and had a total population of over 68 million as of January 2023.

France is a unitary semi-presidential republic with its capital in Paris, the country's largest city and main cultural and commercial centre; other major urban areas include Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Lille, Bordeaux, and Nice.

Inhabited since the Palaeolithic era, the territory of Metropolitan France was settled by Celtic tribes known as Gauls during the Iron Age. Rome annexed the area in 51 BC, leading to a distinct Gallo-Roman culture that laid the foundation of the French language. The Germanic Franks formed the Kingdom of Francia, which became the heartland of the Carolingian Empire. The Treaty of Verdun of 843 partitioned the empire, with West Francia becoming the Kingdom of France in 987. In the High Middle Ages, France was a powerful but highly decentralised feudal kingdom. Philip II successfully strengthened royal power and defeated his rivals to double the size of the crown lands; by the end of his reign, France had emerged as the most powerful state in Europe. From the mid-14th to the mid-15th century, France was plunged into a series of dynastic conflicts involving England, collectively known as the Hundred Years' War, and a distinct French identity emerged as a result. The French Renaissance saw art and culture flourish, conflict with the House of Habsburg, and the establishment of a global colonial empire, which by the 20th century would become the second-largest in the world. The second half of the 16th century was dominated by religious civil wars between Catholics and Huguenots that severely weakened the country. France again emerged as Europe's dominant power in the 17th century under Louis XIV following the Thirty Years' War. Inadequate economic policies, inequitable taxes and frequent wars (notably a defeat in the Seven Years' War and costly involvement in the American War of Independence) left the kingdom in a precarious economic situation by the end of the 18th century. This precipitated the French Revolution of 1789, which overthrew the Ancien Régime and produced the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which expresses the nation's ideals to this day.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence can be seen from afar, with its medieval appearance surrounded by ramparts, at the top of a hill between the Mediterranean and the Grasse Pre-Alps.

Many artists stayed there after the Second World War and brought an international reputation to the village.Today, the Maeght Foundation maintains the artistic vocation of the place.

It is certainly the most visited village in the hinterland of Nice and even one of the most touristic in France.

Located between Eze and Monaco, the town of Eze extends over three cornices with a drop of almost 700 m.

Eze Bord de Mer with its beach shaded by a maritime pine forest is home to many paths that wind between the Belle Epoque villas.

The narrow streets of Eze-Village are lined with old stately homes occupied by artists' or craftsmen's workshops and shops.

From the exotic garden, set in the ruins of a medieval fortress at the top of the village, the panorama extends beyond the Esterel massif. In winter, on a clear day, you can make out the Corsican mountains.

The Grande Corniche is a virgin space between sea and mountain. From this Mediterranean maquis, the gaze embraces the 360° landscape with, in winter, the snowy Mercantour, Italy and Saint-Tropez.

History:
The oldest traces of land use in the town date back to the Iron Age (around 400 BC) at Mont Bastide. Then the destiny of Eze is linked to that of Nice. In 1388, Eze was attached to the House of Savoy and was occupied by Turkish troops from Barbarossa for a few days in 1543. During the War of the Spanish Succession, the armies of Louis XIV destroyed the castle. Eze is attached to France in 1860.

During the Belle Epoque and then during the interwar period, tourists began to visit or stay in Eze. George Sand describes its tormented landscapes, Friedrich Nietzsche finishes his work “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” there, Prince William of Sweden takes up residence at Château Eza from 1923 to 1953.

Today personalities from the artistic world regularly reside in the town. Bono of the group U2, Julian Lennon are among the best known.

The cultural centre of Europe, and perhaps the entire world, is Paris. Since turning on the street lights a couple hundred years ago, they have been working hard to draw tourists and culture-lovers, creating the City of Light.
Although there are many other things to do in Paris, if it's your first time there, you'll want to see the famous Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre-Dame.

We created this list of the top Paris attractions because the Musée d'Orsay, the Luxembourg Gardens, and Le Marais are all noteworthy Parisian treasures that demand a visit. There is so much to see and do, including shopping, cemeteries, and touring museums.

hello ladies and gentlemen and now is the time when I figured I'd share ten tips when visiting France tip number one if you're driving through rural France be sure to fill up your tank at the nearest available opportunity the reason why I'm bringing it up is because the
petrol stations are rather sparse at least in the north of France in the rural areas so when you see an tip number two service stations the service stations that we've seen have concretes tables and chairs, people brought their own food with them sometimes in the middle of rural areas you can see unmanned shops like this one we decided to pop in and get some peaches, some fruits on the way but we couldn't we help but notice this, let's open it up it's over here what you can see is different products tip number three please note that there are many toll roads in France which means a very short trip from one city to another could cost you a toll so just bear that in mind if you're driving this is why traveling from Trouville to Le Havre was a little bit more expensive than anticipated because of the road tolls, again we didn't mind because we really wanted to see the city of La Havre,
please note that a lot of motorways are paid for in France so consider the distance you are driving it could cost you a little bit more than you think. Tip number four learn some basic French when you're going to France you would be surprised that especially in rural areas not everyone speaks English and also if you put your effort in trying to communicate in French people do open up a lot better, they can sense and they can feel that you're really going for, it really trying to communicate their language so many people Once you chose to learn the language keep it simple for yourself learn the basics I would suggest starting from directions: left right and of course counting but if your grammar is broken up and it's not sticking well but at least you know some basic words that will go a long long way!
Tip number five, in smaller towns shops tend to stay open in the earlier part of today and obviously they close early too point number six: plan your routes around the attractions that you actually like, personally my wife and I love ancient architecture historical cities, medieval towns and back streets of beautiful historical villages for others it could be shopping, it could be restaurants, it could be museums it could be an array of other things that I may not even think of so obviously plan your route around the themes that you really like and enjoy once you have that planned you can divert you can ad-lib and you can really let yourself go but at least you have a plan which you can fall back on tip number seven: depending on where you are from in the world but it does get very very hot in the summer in
France and it gets even hotter the further south you go, sometimes this heat can really get to you if you know you're not very good with the heat be sure to plan for it tip number eight eat and shop for food where locals go each county will have its own food that they're famous for: go for that option, go for the food that's really famous in that particular region and also see where the locals go and do a little bit of exploring: it's fun it's amazing, it opens up a real world of France Tip number nine: when you come to France
don't overstretch yourself with travel try to stay and explore the local area to the best of your abilities You'd be surprised how much can you learn about a city, you would certainly enjoy yourself more and have better time. Tip number ten: the final tip is for all of those of
you who love coffee if you ask for coffee in France by default you'll be given a shot of black coffee in a cup which is just marginally larger than espresso enjoy the French coffee and
enjoy it as it comes! That's it from me I hope you enjoyed these tips, stay safe and let's plan for our next trip don't forget to subscribe as your support means a world to me! Until next Thursday 7 o'clock in the evening British Standard Time, Bye Bye!
