The Yarkon National Park is divided into two parts: Tel Afek area (Antipatris) and the Yarkon Sources area, Together they constitute a green lung and an island of tranquility in the middle of the most populated region in Israel.

In this beautiful and tranquil national park you’ll find the clean Yarkon Stream with abundant water lilies, a wading pool, a charming lake and an ancient fortress with a controlling view of the region.

The Squill trail – a walking route along which squills (Drimia maritima) were planted in 2011. The inspiration for selecting squill to mark the trail came from the ancient practice of using the plant as boundaries between fields. The Squill Trail is a circular route passing through sites from the Roman, Ottoman and British periods.

The Paddling Pools – above the artificial lake a few paddling pools were built at the end of 2012, and visitors are invited to paddle in them (bathing is prohibited in the lake itself).

Antipatris Fort – the fortress at the top of the Tel was built between 1572 -1574 in the Ottoman period, and is called “Binar Bashi”, an Arabic corruption of the Turkish name Pinar Basha, literally – “fountainhead” or “head of the springs” (in Hebrew – Rosh Ha’Ayin). The fortress is known mistakenly as Antipatris Fort, after the Roman city that existed here. The function of the fortress was to guard the Afek Passage – the narrow pass that connected the hills of Shomron with the sources of the Yarkon river. This pass circumvented the marshy region and was part of the ancient Via Maris that traversed the length of the country.

The British Water Pumping Station – a facility erected by the British in Palestine during the Mandate, which was part of the facility that conveyed water to Jerusalem. The water was collected in pipes at the Rosh Ha’Ayin springs and transferred to filtering pools for cleaning and then to a chlorination structure. Thereafter the water was conveyed to an underground reservoir and to pumping stations, and from there it was delivered to Jerusalem. The old structures seen in the Afek area are the pumping station, the sinking and filtering pools and the chlorination structure. Opposite there are buildings that served as offices and residence for the British soldiers who guarded the pumping station, which today are used by the Nature and Parks Authority.
The Recreation Area and Amusement Facility the place can be used for picnics and barbeques..

The Winter Pool – the winter pool in the Tel Afek area is a unique habitat containing a number of amphibians, primitive crustaceans and water insects. The aquarium standing in front of the pool displays the creatures that live in it when it is full of water.

The Artificial Lake – a narrow peaceful waterway flows into the lake originating from the National Water Carrier pipeline. The lake was built in a natural basin located there, in order to create a suitable habitat for water fauna and for leisure and recreation purposes.
Route from Tel Afek to the Sources of the Yarkon, via the Water-Lilly Ponds – the water-lily pond in the Yarkon National Park enchants the visitor’s eye due to its extensive river vegetation and blue water. The yellow water lily (Nuphar lutea) with its impressive flowers grows in the pond, as well as other plants and creatures unique to the area.

The International Bible Marathon Promo 2021 | Marathon Israel

The International Bible Marathon Promo | Marathon Israel

The history of the Bible Marathon – the world’s oldest running challenge!

“Then a man of Benjamin ran from the battle line the same day, and came to Shiloh with his clothes torn…”

One of the first runs recorded in human history – long before the “marathon” in Greek mythology – is mentioned in the Bible, in the beginning of the book of Samuel. At the end of the war between the Israelites and the Philistines, the “Man of Benjamin” runs from the battlefield at Eben Ezer (modern day Rosh Ha’ayin) to Shiloh, city of the Tabernacle.

Many centuries later, the founder of the Maccabiah games, Yosef Yekutieli, set out to measure the length of the course from Rosh Ha’ayin to Shiloh, in the Benjamin region. He was amazed to find that the length of this historic path precisely matched that of the modern marathon – 42 kilometers (the official length of the Olympic running contest, determined in 1908 at the London Olympics).

The Bible Marathon presents a particularly tough challenge for area runners, renewing the historical run in an exciting international event of sports and satisfaction!

It is located about 20 km (12 mi) east of Tel Aviv, on the Israeli side of the Green Line separating Israel and the West Bank, in the southern portion of the Little Triangle of Arab-Israeli towns and villages. In 2017 its population was 22,743.[1] The town was the site of the Kafr Qasim massacre, in which the Israel Border Police killed 49 civilians on October 29, 1956. Tel Afek National Park, Israel.
In ancient times, this location was part of the Via Maris (Way of the sea) route, used by the Camel Caravan traders running from ancient Egypt all the way to Persia.
The place was a resting post for travelers because of the shaded area and abundance of water coming from the Yarkon Springs.

Tent encampments spring up across Israel to protest soaring housing costs. Tel Aviv, June 2022

Over a decade after 2011 movement, protest camps pop up again in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other parts of the country, with organizers planning for large demonstration on July 2
A protest camp was set up in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening, joining the encampments that have been set up in several locations across the country in recent days to protest soaring housing prices, in moves reminiscent of the 2011 mass social justice movement.

Other encampments were located in Jerusalem, Haifa, Beersheba, Pardes Hanna, Holon and Rosh Ha’ayin.

The Tel Aviv camp was set up on Rothschild Boulevard, a street that has become a symbol of the high cost of living in the city and was the epicenter of the 2011 protests.

“We want to bring real change, not just to Tel Aviv. I live with a roommate in the Neve Sha’anan neighborhood of Tel Aviv and I came to protest against the completely insane rent increases,” Yotam Harpaz, 23, who was one of the first to set up his tent on the busy boulevard, told the Walla news site.

Ido Ben-Nun, Yotam’s roommate, also moved into a tent on Rothschild Boulevard.
“We will be there as long as it takes. The idea is to put the issue of rising housing prices back on the agenda, this time with the aim of changing the situation,” he said.
Organizers of the encampment told the Haaretz news site that in contrast to the 2011 movement, they want to present officials with “concrete demands,” adding that a team of financial experts were working on a plan to present to the government.

They also said that a large demonstration is to take place at Tel Aviv’s Habima Square on July 2.

Rothschild Boulevard was the epicenter of a nationwide protest in 2011 that at its height brought an estimated 400,000 people into the streets.

That mass protest movement was sparked when 25-year-old video editor Daphni Leef found herself priced out of the rental market in Tel Aviv, pitched the first tent, and started a Facebook group.

Hundreds of mostly young people then joined her in tents along the street to protest the high cost of housing and social inequality in general. The scene soon resembled a street festival, with guitar singalongs, public debates and even Jewish text-learning on a nightly basis.

Governments have been promising to lower ever-climbing housing prices for more than a decade. The sky-high costs have put home ownership out of the reach of many Israelis, weakening the middle class.

Housing prices were up 15% in January and February 2022 compared to the same period last year, marking a sharp 12-month climb, according to an April report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Overall prices have been rising by 1.2% on average each month since February 2021, the data showed.

In October, the government unveiled a major housing plan for 2022-2025, aimed at rapidly increasing the supply of apartments in the hopes of reducing prices.

Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman said in December that housing prices would “moderate” by the end of 2022 and that he believes Israelis may even see prices drop in the coming years.
