10 Best Places to Visit in Egypt-Travel Video
When Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Egypt in 1798, he brought with him an entourage of more than 160 scholars and scientists. Known as the French Commission on the Sciences and Arts of Egypt, these experts undertook an extensive survey of the country's archeology, topography, and natural history. A soldier who was part of the expedition found the famous Rosetta Stone, which the French linguist and scholar Jean-François Champollion (1790-1832) later used to unlock many of the mysteries that long had surrounded the language of ancient Egypt. In 1802 Napoleon authorized the publication of the commission's findings in a monumental, multi-volume work that included plates, maps, scholarly essays, and a detailed index. Publication of the original Imperial edition began in 1809. It proved so popular that a second edition was published under the post-Napoleonic Bourbon Restoration. The Royal edition (1821-29) from the collections of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is presented here.

The Egyptian Museum, also known as the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, is one of the world's most significant museums dedicated to the preservation and display of Egypt's ancient artifacts and treasures. Here is important information about the Egyptian Museum in Cairo:

Location: The Egyptian Museum is located in the heart of Cairo, Egypt, on Tahrir Square, in close proximity to several other historic sites and landmarks.

History: The museum's history can be traced back to the late 19th century when efforts were made to collect and preserve Egypt's ancient artifacts. French archaeologist Auguste Mariette played a significant role in these early preservation and collection efforts. He founded the Egyptian Antiquities Service, which aimed to protect and catalog Egypt's historical treasures.

Foundation of the Museum: In 1858, the idea of establishing a dedicated museum to house Egypt's growing collection of antiquities gained momentum. The foundation for the Egyptian Museum was laid in 1897, and the museum officially opened its doors to the public in 1902. At the time, it was known as the Boulaq Museum.

The museum was later renamed the Egyptian Museum, and its collections continued to expand through archaeological excavations and acquisitions. It became one of the world's most significant repositories of ancient Egyptian artifacts, housing tens of thousands of items.

Over the years, the Egyptian Museum underwent several renovations and expansions to better preserve and display its collections. It featured a vast array of artifacts, including statues, jewelry, papyrus scrolls, and mummies.

Collections: The museum houses an extensive and diverse collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities spanning over 5,000 years of history. It boasts more than 120,000 artifacts, making it one of the largest collections of its kind in the world.

While I can't provide a comprehensive list of all the exhibits, I can highlight some of the most notable and iconic artifacts and collections you can find in the museum:

1. *Tutankhamun's Treasures:* One of the museum's most famous collections, it includes the contents of the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Highlights include his golden death mask, jewelry, thrones, chariots, and various other personal items.

2. *Mummies:* The museum houses a collection of mummies, including those of pharaohs and other prominent individuals from ancient Egypt. Some of the mummies are displayed in the Royal Mummy Room.

3. *Ancient Egyptian Jewelry:* The museum boasts an extensive collection of jewelry, including intricate necklaces, bracelets, rings, and amulets crafted from precious metals and gemstones.

4. *Statuary:* The Egyptian Museum is home to countless statues representing pharaohs, deities, and everyday life in ancient Egypt. Notable statues include those of Pharaoh Khafre, Pharaoh Menkaure, and various gods and goddesses.

5. *Papyrus Scrolls:* The museum contains a collection of papyrus scrolls with hieroglyphic writings and illustrations, providing insights into ancient Egyptian literature, religion, and daily life.

6. *Artifacts from Ancient Tombs:* Numerous artifacts from ancient tombs, such as furniture, pottery, cosmetic containers, and shabti figurines, are on display.

7. *Rosetta Stone:* An important historical artifact that played a crucial role in deciphering hieroglyphics. The Rosetta Stone features inscriptions in three scripts: Greek, Demotic, and hieroglyphic.

8. *Amarna Period Artifacts:* A collection of artifacts from the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten and Queen Nefertiti, known for their unique artistic style and religious reforms.

9. *Animal Mummies:* The museum houses a collection of animal mummies, including those of cats, dogs, and various sacred animals.

10. *Funerary Artifacts:* Objects related to ancient Egyptian burial practices, such as coffins, canopic jars, and offerings for the deceased.

11. *Ancient Egyptian Textiles:* A collection of well-preserved textiles, including clothing and linens, showcasing the craftsmanship of ancient Egyptian weavers.

12. *The Stela of Hammurabi:* While not an Egyptian artifact, this stela from ancient Mesopotamia is on display and contains one of the world's earliest known legal codes.

Rosetta or Rashid (/roʊˈzɛtə/; Arabic: رشيد Rašīd IPA: [ɾɑˈʃiːd]; French: Rosette [ʁo.zɛt]; Coptic: ϯⲣⲁϣⲓⲧ ti-Rashit, Ancient Greek: Βολβιτίνη Bolbitinē[1]) is a port city of the Nile Delta, 65 km (40 mi) east of Alexandria, in Egypt's Beheira governorate. The Rosetta Stone was discovered there in 1799.

Founded around in the 9th century, Rosetta boomed with the decline of Alexandria following the Ottoman conquest of Egypt in 1517, only to wane in importance after Alexandria's revival. During the 19th century, it was a popular British tourist destination, known for its Ottoman mansions, citrus groves and relative cleanliness.
The name of the town most likely comes from an Arabic name Rašīd (meaning guide and was transcribed and corrupted in numerous ways – the name Rexi was used by the Crusaders in Middle Ages[3] and Rosetta or Rosette (little rose in Italian and French respectively) was used by the French at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt. The latter lent its name to the Rosetta Stone (French: Pierre de Rosette), which was found by French soldiers at the nearby Fort Julien in 1799.

The lost Rosetta رشيد المفقودة

Rosetta (Arabic: رشيد‎ Rashid, French: Rosette) is a port city on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. It is located 65 km (40 miles) east of Alexandria, in Beheira governorate. It was founded around AD 800.
With the decline of Alexandria following the Ottoman conquest of Egypt in 1517, Rashid boomed, only to wane in importance after Alexandria's revival. During the 19th century it was a popular British tourist destination, known for its charming Ottoman mansions, citrus groves and cleanliness.
The town of Rashid came to be known in the West as Rosette (Rosetta), the name by which it was referred to by the French during Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt. It is famous as the site where the Pierre de Rosette (Rosetta Stone) was found by French soldiers in 1799.

Rosetta is the modern representative of the ancient Bolbitine, which lay a little farther north. In the Middle Ages Rosetta was a place of considerable commercial importance, and it continued to flourish until the construction of the Mahmudiyeh Canal and the improvement of the harbour at Alexandria diverted most of its trade to the latter city.
Rosetta also witnessed the defeat of the 1807 British Fraser campaign, on September 19. The British were trying to occupy Egypt after the French army had left the country. September 19 later became the national day of the town. Al-buhaira celebrates that year.
