This is part of a larger Esmeraldas travel video series to show you it is possible to visit the Esmeraldas province but you just need to know where to go...and more importantly where not to go.
It has been my favourite province in Ecuador for food and the beaches here are unmatchable. The people are also so friendly and helpful when you ask them about safety in Esmeraldas. We always asked locals in advance if someone we wanted to go was safe or not. If they say a place is complicated or difficult, it's best to skip it.

Napo River border crossing: Iquitos, Perú to El Coca, Ecuador with 4 Local Boats
This is what it's like to cross the border between Perú and Ecuador by little boats on the Napo river in the Amazon region. There's no roads in this part of the Amazon rainforest, so people have to take the a boat to visit other places. The route in this video takes you from Iquitos to the little villages of Mazan, Santa Clotilde and Pantoja. In Pantoja you stamp out of Perú and take another boat to Nuevo Rocafuerte, where you stamp into Ecuador. From there it's one boat ride left to El Coca in Ecuador. In total, you will need to take four boats to cross this border!

The small city of Coca, officially known as Puerto Francisco de Orellana, is located at the confluence of the Napo, Coca and Payamino rivers in northeastern Ecuador. Just a 5 hour drive or short plane ride from Quito, Coca has become the gateway city to Yasuni National Park.

Baños, Ecuador Hot Springs Like a Local - What you Need to Know
Baños, Ecuador is famous for its hot springs. The city's full name is actually Baños de Agua Santa which means Baths of Holy Water. The thermal baths in Banos are fed by springs from the surrounding volcanoes. The mineral rich waters not only feel amazing, they're also good for you.
After a day of hiking the hills of Banos, we hit the public hot springs, where the locals go. With a $4 entrance fee, it's the best way to enjoy both the hot waters and the culture of Ecuador. To be honest, at first it was a bit intimidating - specially considering our Spanish isn't good - but after doing it once (at Termas de la Virgen) we went back a second time (this time to Termas del Salado). The second time, armed with the knowledge of our first visit, I brought a camera with me to document the amazing experience. I loved a late night thermal soak so much that I started looking for houses to buy down the street from Termas del Salado.

Continuando con la segunda parte de la aventura en el Yasuní tuve la oportunidad de conocer la comunidad Kichwa Añangu, una comunidad reconocida a nivel nacional e internacional por su trabajo en pro de la preservación del ecosistema y del medio ambiente, ya que es una comunidad en la que no se caza ni se pesca, tampoco se extrae madera ni se atenta contra el medio ambiente.

Passenger canoe to Nuevo Rocafuerte from Coca, Ecuador (canoa rápida de Coca a Nuevo Rocafuerte)
For travelers looking to make their way from Ecuador's Oriente downstream to the Peruvian portion of the rain forest and the Amazon River itself, the first leg of the journey is this large canoe which makes the roughly 140 mile trip in 10 to 12 hours several times per week.
It leaves from the City of Coca, which can be reached by airplane from the capital, Quito for $70-100 or anywhere by bus. The canoe spends the day traveling down the Napo River and arrives in Nuevo Rocafuerte in the evening, where you have a few restaurants and hostels to choose from while arranging the next step, crossing the border into Peru.

Second day of our lengthy trip was all about finding someone happy to give us a short boat ride from Nuevo Rocafuerte to Pantoja in Perú. In regards to distance vs price by far it was the most expensive part of the whole El Coca - Manaus route.
