This vlog is about our short half day visit to Someshwara temple and Kolaramma Temple of Kolar, Karnataka, India.

Read the complete post about this trip by visiting below link:

Both the temples are very close to Kolar town and around 75 Kms from Bengaluru.
---------------------------------------------------------
Someshwara Temple:
Built in 14th Century and is a fine example of Vijayanagara style (Dravidian Style) of architecture.
The temple is well maintained by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Someshwara in this temple.
One of the main attractions of this temple is the Kalyana Mantapa (wedding stage). The art on the four pillars of the main stage is extremely beautiful. It is influenced by Chinese, Thai and Europian architecture.

Kolaramma Temple:

Kolaramma temple which is only 5 mins walk from Someshwara temple.
Goddess Parvathi worshipped in the form of Kolaramma.
The temple built by Cholas during 11th century.
Another important deity here is Chelamma (Scorpion Goddess). It is a belief that Chelamma protects a person from scorpion bites. In the room next to main shrine, images of Sapthamatrikas are kept.

Is This India’s Oldest Running Bakery? 143 Years Old NEW IMPERIAL BAKERY, KGF KOLAR GOLD FIELDS

#indiasoldestbakery #newimperialbakery #kgf

new imperial bakery, india’s oldest bakery, 143 year old bakery, kolar gold fields, kgf, karnataka, wood fired oven, veg puff, dil pasand, muffin, coconut biscuit, spicy cookies, vanilla cookies, old fashioned bakes, plum cake, bread, karnataka food trail, kolar food tour, near bengaluru, bangalore, small business, support small business, gourmet on the road, kripal amanna, food lovers tv, food lovers india, truth in food

On a recent road drive through Kolar, we made a detour to Kolar Gold Fields, once famous across the world for its gold mines. The mines have long closed, and the town is now a pale shadow of its former glory. What has endured however is a bakery that first opened in 1880 and still continues to dispense its baked wares in an old school tradition that harks back 143 years! I met its fourth generation owner and also tasted many of the scrumptious treats on offer that are still popular with the inhabitants of this verdant town 70 kilometres from Bengaluru.

Hope you enjoy this one. Take care; stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

Note: I enjoyed most of the baked treats on offer. Standouts for me though were the veg puff, muffin (dilpasand), coconut biscuit, spicy cookies and plum cake.
Biscuits are priced at Rs. 30 for 100gm, the puffs and muffins at Rs. 13, and a loaf of bread, Rs. 30.

Showing The Real KGF (Kolar Gold Field)in Malayalam
Kolar Gold Fields (K.G.F.) is a mining region in K.G.F. taluk (township), Kolar district, Karnataka, India. It is headquartered in Robertsonpet, where employees of Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML) and BEML Limited (formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited) and their families live. K.G.F. is about 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Kolar, 29 kilometres (18 mi) from Kuppam, 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Bangalore, capital of Karnataka and 245 kilometers (152 mi) from Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu. Over a century, the town has been known for gold mining. The mine closed on 28 February 2001 due to a fall in gold prices, despite gold still being present there. One of India's first power-generation units was built in 1889 to support mining operations. The mine complex hosted some particle physics experiments between the 1960s and 1992.

Fly around, walk-through and take a drive : The 1000-year old Markandeshwara Temple, situated atop Markandeya Hills - 15Kms from Kolar and 70Kms from Bangalore is just absolutely lovely. It is surrounded by forests, and there is an option to climb 600 steps to reach the temple from the road.

The Shiva-linga at this temple is the one which sage Markandeya held tightly when he turned 16 and Yama came to take him away. As Yama pulled Markandeya harder, the linga split open and Lord Shiva appeared from it to defeat Yama. Thus, sage Markandeya did not die at 16 as was prophesized.

The temple is open from 10am till 4pm on Mondays. On other days it is open from 10am till 1pm.
