Christians gather in Jerusalem for Holy Week
Pilgrims came from many different countries to carry crucifixes along the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.
Holy Week in Jerusalem's Old City is full of unforgettable sights and activities. But maybe the most emotional day is Good Friday, when Christians of all denominations, from around the world, carry the cross. They stop at the 14 Stations of the Cross, commemorating Jesus' last day.
Pilgrims from places including Serbia, Egypt, Greece, Montenegro, Nigeria, Georgia, Bulgaria, Russia, Ethiopia and India all gathered here for the Holy Week festivities recently.
The procession included Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox (Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Syriac and Indian) believers in addition to Roman Catholics. All joined together as they stopped at the stations, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

Nelle feste pagane l'arrivo della primavera viene festeggiato ogni anno. Questa stagione viene vista quale periodo di rinnovamento e di fertilità e viene rappresentata tramite l'allegoria del ritorno di Persefone alla madre Demetra dopo il suo soggiorno con Ade negli inferi.
Secondo alcune tradizioni viene rappresentata anche come l'avvento della vita e la resurrezione della natura dopo il lungo inverno. La festa di primavera prevede cerimonie che comprendono riti sessuali che vanno ad onorare il ritorno del sole dopo il freddo dell'inverno, fatto di brevi ore di luce, neve e notti tempestose. Per le tradizioni pagane la primavera porta la promessa di giornate più lunghe e più calde che offrono vivificante forza e calore.
Tra le festività pagane dell'equinozio di primavera troviamo la Festa degli alberi legata al culto della divinità romana Anna Perenna e i Misteri Eleusini.
