Wisconsin State Park Trails, Ep. #4-Rib Mountain
Called opicwana (meaning rib) by the Ojibwe, Rib Mountain is Wisconsin's 4th highest peak and one of the oldest known geologic structures on earth. Starting and ending at the Observation Tower with some great looks shooting through the fog we hike the Red Trail, going through the Talus Forest State Natural Area along the way. Recorded May 9th, 2023.

Wausau Wisconsin, Spring 2022
We travel to the edge of the Wisconsin Northwoods for a fun filled weekend of skiing and exploration.
This is one of the final weekends that the Ski slopes at Granite Peek Ski resort will be operational for the
winter/spring season this year. We'll visit Rib Mountain State Park for some hiking and exploring.
Some of our group will take to the slopes at Granite Peak Resort...
...while the rest of us will be entertained at the anual pond-skim
event. This event is where folks ski down the mountain and attempt to skim across a pond at the bottom of
the run.
We'll Explore the historic downtown district and also visit several local parks.
We had an enjoyable time. Hope you do to with this video capture of the weekend.

Rib Mountain State Park | Wisconsin State Park Series | Episode 7
We've been saving Rib Mountain State Park for the fall season. If you visit in the fall, you can stop at Granite Peak Ski Area and ride one of the ski lifts to enjoy the fall colors. You have the option to get off at the top and walk around before coming back down. (There are many great trails!) We took the chairlift back down and drove around to the back side of Rib Mountain State Park. We hiked the Red Trail and Quarry Trail and after hiking these trails, we definitely have to come back and hike the rest!! I had no idea the trails would be so awesome! Watch where you walk as there are tree roots, stones, & steps all along the way. If you decide to ride the ski lift, get there early or bring warm clothes for the wait. I think we had to wait in line for about an hour and a half (noon on a Sunday).
