10 Most Miserable Towns in the UK

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Retford Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Nottinghamshire, and around 25 miles east of Sheffield, is the town of Retford, sometimes referred to as East Retford.

Geographically Retford is situated on the River Idle in the Bassetlaw District, Nottinghamshire's northernmost district. King Henry I established the borough of East Retford in 1105, making it one of the oldest boroughs in England. A royal charter was granted by Henry III in 1246 for a market to be held each Thursday. This was extended in 1275 by Edward I to include Saturday as well.

In 1528 much of Retford was destroyed by a fire. However the town went on to prosper during the 18th and 19th century. The Great North Road entered into the town in 1766. This allowed stagecoaches to pass through Retford all the way from London to Edinburgh. This was essentially the precursor to the modern day A1 which comes within a few miles of Retford. In 1777 the Chesterfield Canal was completed, allowing goods to be transported in and out of Retford. In 1849 the railway arrived in Retford. To this day it provides a direct transport link between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh on the East Coast Main Line.

The church featured in the walk is St Swithun's Church. The first recorded reference of this church dates all the way back to 1258. However most of the church was rebuilt in the 1650s following a collapse of the tower in 1651. Outside the church we see the Sebastopol Cannon. This was captured in 1855 during the Battle of Sebastopol towards the end of the Crimean War and was given to the town in 1858. The cannon was later removed during the scrap metal drive of the Second World War, but was rescued and unveiled anew in 1950.

Places to see in ( Beverley - UK )

Places to see in ( Beverley - UK )

Beverley is a market town, civil parish and the county town of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The town is known for Beverley Minster, Beverley Westwood, North Bar and Beverley Racecourse. It inspired the naming of the cities of Beverly, Massachusetts, and Beverly Hills in California.

The town was originally known as Inderawuda and was founded around 700 AD by Saint John of Beverley during the time of the Anglian kingdom of Northumbria. After a period of Viking control, it passed to the Cerdic dynasty, a period during which it gained prominence in terms of religious importance in Great Britain. It continued to grow especially under the Normans when its trading industry was first established. A place of pilgrimage throughout the Middle Ages due to its founder, it eventually became a significant wool-trading town. Beverley was once the tenth-largest town in England, as well as one of the richest, because of its wool and the pilgrims who came to venerate its founding saint, John of Beverley. After the Reformation, the stature of Beverley was much reduced.

In the 20th century, Beverley was the administrative centre of the local government district of the Borough of Beverley (1974–1996). It is now the county town of the East Riding, located 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Hull, 10 miles (16 km) east of Market Weighton and 12 miles (19 km) west of Hornsea. As well as its racecourse and markets, Beverley is known in the modern day for hosting various food and music festivals throughout the year.

As a market town, the market day is central to culture in Beverley; a smaller market day is held on Wednesday: however the main event is on Saturday, with all of the stalls.

The town is served by Beverley railway station on the Hull to Scarborough Line, with services currently run by Northern and a limited service between Beverley and London King's Cross provided by Hull Trains. Before the mid 1960s, there was a direct York to Beverley Line via Market Weighton; the Minsters Rail Campaign is seeking to re open the closed line.

( Beverley - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Beverley . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Beverley - UK

Places to see in ( Bawtry - UK )

Places to see in ( Bawtry - UK )

Bawtry is a small market town and civil parish which lies at the point where the western branch of the Roman road Ermine Street crosses the River Idle in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England and met the Great North Road. Nearby towns include Gainsborough to the east, Retford south south-east, Worksop to the south-west and Doncaster to the north-west. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Bawtry is located in the metropolitan borough of Doncaster on the border with Nottinghamshire, and is situated between Bircotes and Misson at the conjunction of the A614, A631 and A638 roads. The present A638 was for centuries the Great North Road, and in the 20th century the town was a notorious bottleneck, until it was bypassed in 1965. The county boundary with Nottinghamshire runs just to the south of the town and for this reason the southernmost house on the Great North Road is named 'Number One Yorkshire'.
The town's former prosperity was based on its communications, the River Idle in the days when it was a port, the Great North Road in the coaching era, and the Great Northern Railway.

Bawtry has a school called Bawtry Mayflower School named after the ship Mayflower, which took William Bradford, leader of the Pilgrims, to the Americas, settling the first Plymouth Colony. Bradford lived at Austerfield, close to Bawtry. The White Hart in Swan Street is the oldest surviving pub in Bawtry dating back to 1689. The older Swan Inn, also in Swan Street, is still intact, but converted to other uses.

South Parade is a terrace of Georgian houses. The Market Hill and High Street contain other buildings of that period, interspersed with more recent developments. The Courtyard in Bawtry is a modern development hosting a variety of shops and businesses. The entire development was designed by Graham Smith Design, who went on to win the Green Apple Awards 2005 in recognition of the efforts to preserve and enhance the heritage of Bawtry.

( Bawtry - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Bawtry . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Bawtry - UK

The Tim Traveller Mediocre Mountain Challenge Short Film | Retford, England

The Tim Traveller Mediocre Mountain Challenge encourages people to get outside and walk to their highest local point that’s reachable by foot, even if it’s nowhere near as high as a mountain ????

We love walks, so the TTT Mediocre Mountain Challenge inspired us to make a cinematic short film. We’ve got a behind the scenes vlog about it coming up soon too.

We found the highest point where we live in Retford, England and set off for an afternoon hike to reach the summit! Our “mountain” was definitely VERY mediocre, but it was a really hot day in England so we felt like we’d climbed Scafell Pike ???? The highest point was 330FT and at the far end of a nearby wood.

Cheers to The Tim Traveller for encouraging us to go outside for a beautiful hike in nature, and inspiring us to create this short film to document reaching the summit of our mediocre mountain here in Retford, England.

We actually have climbed Scafell Pike (the HIGHEST mountain in England), you can watch that video here:

EATON: Bassetlaw Parish #16 of 66

Most of Bassetlaw's 66 parishes are very small. This is one such example of a very small parish that punches well above it's weight. The village in question doesn't have all that many landmarks but the ones it does have are loaded with things that will be of interest to everybody that watches thee videos. Oh yes, the village is home to a lot of history.

First of all the magnificent bridge that crosses the River Idle here bisecting the village was the scene in 617 of a battle between two kings, with one overthrowing the other allowing the true Northumbrian king Edwin to ascend the throne. These days is a much more peaceful part of the country!

Walk a few steps to the East and you're looking at the church of All Saints with it's pretty little bell turret and fantastic stained glass windows, a church no less that has been built using stone from Steetley, as well as the stone from the former Norman church that stood in it's current place.

This is all before you consider the enormous hall that is the site of an Islamic college, a building that has been quite a few things in it's time, including a maternity hospital and a conference centre. Following the road out to the East we come across an old friend of the channel too, plus another SSSI in the form of some species rich grass verges (yes, TVI will really film anything!), before looking at the woods that they're near to.

It might be small but this one's well worth ten minutes of your time. This is lovely little parish of EATON.
