???????? SANTOS, SÃO PAULO, Brazil - Today for episode 6 of my 2022 Brazil Travel series, we're visiting one of Brazil's lesser-known beach cities - Santos! The home of coffee, football legend Pelé and Scottish streetcars!
There are lots of things to do or activities in Santos to keep you occupied, such as the Monte Serrat funicular, awesome views, the coffee museum, Pelé museum and much more. It's the most pretty city to be honest, and from what I saw the beaches aren't spectacular, but it's still a welcome break from more commonly visited beaches in Rio. There's some great architecture and history though, especially if you're interested in the brazilian coffee trade or you are a football fan! If you're thinking about where to go in Brazil, Santos could be a good idea for your Brazil itinerary!

Rio de Janeiro, is situated in southeast Brazil.
Each dawn reveals golden shores, and a city dotted with mountain peaks.
Cariocas, as the residents are known, take pride in living life to the fullest.
The city's Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian is modeled after a Mayan temple, a stairway to the sun. Christ the Redeemer takes center stage on Rio's skyline. Take the 20-minute ride to the top of Corcovado Mountain, and stand at the feet of this world-famous landmark. Just across the water lays Rio's most iconic peak, Sugarloaf Mountain.
Rio's most famous beach is Copacabana. If you are looking for waves, head out to Prainha. In Ipanema, don't miss the Sunday Hippie Fair.
In the heart of the city, Cinelândia, is home to the Municipal Theater and the National Museum of Fine Arts. Closer to the port is the National History Museum. Visit the Maracanã Football Stadium for a taste of the national obsession -- football!
Explore elegant public parks, such as Parque Henrique Lage and Quinta da Boa Vista. Walk the colorful Selarón Steps, created from tiles donated from all over the world.
No wonder they call Rio de Janeiro the Cidade Maravilhosa, the marvelous city.

The Imperial City, Petrópolis is a municipality located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro.
It occupies an area of 795,798 km², its population in 2018 was 305 687 inhabitants according to the estimate. In addition to being the largest and most populous city in the Fluminense Mountain Region and the Petrópolis Intermediate Geographic Region, it also has the largest GDP and HDI in the region.
The mild climate, historic buildings and abundant vegetation are major tourist attractions. In addition, the city has a lively trade and services, in addition to agricultural production (especially fruit production) and industry. Founded on the initiative of Emperor Dom Pedro II (its name comes from the junction of the Latin word Petrus (Pedro) with the Greek word Pólis (city), becoming Cidade de Pedro). It is often called Imperial City, as it was Dom Pedro's favorite route for his moments of leisure and rest.
In 1822, the Brazilian emperor Dom Pedro I, on his way to Minas Gerais along the Caminho do Ouro, stayed at Padre Correia's farm and was delighted with the region. He acquired a neighboring farm, Fazenda do Córrego Seco, which came to be called Imperial Fazenda da Córrego Seco, where he intended to build a palace.
His son, Dom Pedro II, on March 16, 1843, signed an imperial decree that determined the settlement of a settlement (to be formed with the arrival of German immigrants) and the construction of the dreamed summer palace, whose cornerstone was settled by the Emperor in May 1845, and which was ready in 1847. Conceived by Major Júlio Frederico Koeler, it is considered as the second projected city in Brazil (after Recife, projected at the time of the Dutch), being composed of an urban nucleus - the city (today, the Center), where the Imperial Palace was located, public buildings, commerce and services.
From then on, during the summer, the city became the capital of the Empire of Brazil, with the change of the entire court. A large number of inhabitants of the city of Rio de Janeiro also moved during the summer to Petrópolis to escape the outbreaks of yellow fever. Dom Pedro II ruled for 49 years and, in at least forty summers, remained in Petrópolis, eventually for up to five months. On September 29, 1857, the town was elevated to city status. In 1861, the first macadamized highway in Brazil, Estrada União e Indústria, was opened, connecting the city to Juiz de Fora. In 1883, the Príncipe do Grão Pará Railway (in the future Leopoldina Railway) arrived in the city at the initiative of Barão de Mauá, being inaugurated by Dom Pedro II.
Regardless of the time of year, it was in Petrópolis that foreign diplomatic representatives lived for most of the imperial period.

Petrópolis has a name that evokes a city of the future, but it is a prestigious city of the Brazilian past, the witness of the great hours of its history. An aviator, Santos Dumont, and an emperor, Dom Pedro II of Brazil, hold our attention. Today, Petrópolis still appeals to Cariocas who appreciate its refreshing climate at an altitude of 800 m in a mountain range in the state of Rio, the serra dos órgãos.
Petrópolis, city, central Rio de Janeiro estado (state), southeastern Brazil. It is situated in a valley at 2,667 feet (813 metres) above sea level, in the Órgãos Mountains, about 25 miles (40 km) north of Rio de Janeiro city.
Petrópolis was founded in 1845 by Bavarian immigrants under the sponsorship of Pedro II, the Brazilian emperor for whom it was named. The emperor was attracted by the site’s relatively cool climate and held court there during the warmer months. His possessions, along with those of Pedro I and João VI of Portugal, remain in the ornate royal palace, now the Museum of the Empire. Petrópolis served as the state capital from 1894 until 1903. A treaty with Bolivia was signed there in 1903 for an exchange of lands and a Brazilian commitment to construct the Madeira-Mamoré Railway in Rondônia state. The city has diversified industries and is the seat of the Catholic University of Petrópolis (1961). Petrópolis is also a popular tourist destination, and many weekend and summer homes are located in and around the city. In January 2011 torrential rain afflicted the city with flooding and mudslides that devastated property and killed dozens of people. Pop. (2000) 270,671; (2010) 281,286.
