Calaveras became a State Park in 1931 to preserve the North Grove of giant sequoias. This grove includes the Discovery Tree, the first Sierra redwood noted by Augustus T. Dowd in 1852. This area has been a major tourist attraction ever since, and is considered the longest continuously operated tourist facility in California.

Over the years, other parcels of mixed conifer forests have been added to the park.

The Park also houses two main campgrounds with a total of 129 campsites, six picnic areas and hundreds of miles of established trails.

Activities include cross-country skiing, evening ranger talks, numerous interpretive programs, environmental educational programs, junior ranger programs, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching and summer school activities for school children.Dogs: Dogs are welcome in the park on leash in developed areas like picnic sites, campgrounds, roads and fire roads (dirt). Dogs are not allowed on the designated trails, nor in the woods in general.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is a state park of California, United States, preserving two groves of giant sequoia trees. It is located 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Arnold, California in the middle elevations of the Sierra Nevada. It has been a major tourist attraction since 1852, when the existence of the trees was first widely reported, and is considered the longest continuously operated tourist facility in California

What's Inside? Best Kept Secret in California! Exploring Natural Bridges of Coyote Creek Cave Tubing

Cave Tubing and Hiking Natural Bridges of Coyote Creek Trailhead. This Underground Swimming Hole May Be Northern California’s Best Kept Secret!

The Sierra Nevada Mountains hold many wonders. Some are famous worldwide, like the waterfalls in Yosemite National Park and the giant trees in Sequoia National Park. Others, like the Natural Bridges in Calaveras County, are only famous with locals. These no-less-amazing limestone tunnels make a charming destination for a short hike in the Sierra foothills (and an enthralling summer swimming hole). Starting at 1,500 feet, the Natural Bridge Trail descends 300 feet down to Coyote Creek

Coyote Creek Cave in Northern California is definitely a treat for anyone looking for a place to cool off on a hot day. We know summer can be a little sweltering here. But even if you’re not looking to swim, everyone loves to explore some of the many natural wonders in Northern California. If you’ve been looking for one of our great marvels, your search is over. Natural Bridges in Calaveras County is an absolutely amazing, relatively secret swimming hole in Northern California. This place will blow your mind with how cool it is! It’s not every day you can enjoy an underground swimming hole straight out of a fairy tale.

These spectacular limestone caverns have been carved out by Coyote Creek which feeds into New Melones Lake. Maintained by the US Bureau of Reclamation, this natural feature is one of their recommended trails when visiting New Melones. Spring is especially pretty with all of the wildflowers on the trail.

Natural Bridges is a hiking trail in Vallecito, California. It is located just South of Moaning Caverns Adventure Park in Calaveras County, and about a 10 minute drive from Angels Camp. The trailhead is off Parrotts Ferry Road. You will need to look for the brown “Natural Bridges Day Use Area” sign on the side of the road. Due to the geological sensitivity of this outstanding natural formation, dogs and bikes are not allowed.

This Natural Bridge was acquired in 1972 for the public as part of the New Melones Lake project through the cooperation and generosity of Tome M. and Margaret E. Airola, members of a pioneer Calaveras County cattle-raising family. Mr. Airola’s grandfather, Emmanuel Airola, a native of Italy immigrated to the town of Melones, located on the Stanislaus River a few miles south of this Natural Bridge, in 1860. In the cattle business for over 75 years, Tone M. Airola grazed cattle in this area as a small boy.

Top thing to do in California = Natural Bridges of Coyote Creek Trailhead
Best time to Visit = Spring & Summer

The old west still exist in Modoc County

I’m riding all 58 counties of California over the next year (2021).
I want to encourage others to get out and “Find your path.”

My name is Dennis. I’m 51 y/o and NOT an expert or even an accomplished MTB rider. I’ve been riding just 2 years now.
I purchased my first full suspension bike - Specialized StumpJumper EVO 29'er - and started mountain biking in the spring of 2019.
I quickly became addicted. I'm constantly in search of new trails to ride around the great state of California, and beyond.

These videos are to inspire you to “find your path” … or trail.
Even if you are a beginner - like me! Or ride infrequent. Just get out there!

I love hunting for new trails to ride and showcase. Blue Square or “some” Single Black Diamond is my trail preference. I'm always eager to get more saddle time to improve my skills, and to help others get more involved in this great, pandemic-proof, past-time.

I hope my videos help provide you with a place to start.
