The ULTIMATE SICILY ROAD TRIP - Taormina, Ortigia, Agrigento, Erice & MORE (Italy’s Hidden Gems)

Welcome to Sicily, Italy's southern island nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean. While Italy attracts millions of tourists each year, many tend to focus on its more iconic cities and regions. Sicily is by no means a hidden gem, but it certainly provides a more authentic and less crowded Italian experience. With its alluring mix of ancient ruins, charming coastal towns, and delicious cuisine, this is the Italy we've been looking for. We are so lucky that Tommy’s parents are joining us on this unforgettable roadtrip as we go beyond the usual tourist hotspots and immerse ourselves in the Sicilian culture.

Our first destination was the enchanting town of Taormina. In this picturesque, cliffside town, there was so much to do. We visited Isola Bella, a stunning island just off the coast, indulged in incredible dishes like the iconic Bam Bar granitas and pistachio pasta, and delved into the rich history at the ancient amphitheater.

We then headed to Ortigia, a charming island brimming with character and history. Strolling through the streets, we discovered the vibrant outdoor market, where local vendors displayed an array of fresh produce, artisanal crafts, spices, and FRESH seafood. The market's lively atmosphere was sensory overload, and we couldn't resist sampling some of the incredible seafood. The culinary scene in Ortigia, especially its exceptional seafood, makes it an unmissable highlight on any Sicily road trip.

Agrigento's Valley of the Temples stands as an essential stop on a Sicily journey. This ancient archaeological site has well-preserved Greek ruins that transport visitors back in time. We went at sunset for ideal lighting and a great atmosphere.

Erice, a hilltop town in Sicily, is a must-visit destination. With its cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, the town offers a charming and historic atmosphere. We tried the local cookies, which were so yummy. The town's unique blend of history and culinary delights makes it a memorable stop on any Sicilian itinerary.

We spent a couple nights in Castellammare del Golfo, a charming town on the northwest coast of Sicily.

We ended our road trip spending few days by the sea near Messina, providing a perfect place to reflect on our incredible Sicilian adventure.

Street Food in Sicily ???????? CHEESE VOLCANO ARANCINI in Catania + BEST Fish Market in Italy!

In this video, we are Catania! Many travellers come to Catania to catch a glimpse of Mt Etna, a giant volcano on the outskirts of the ancient port. But we’re here to EAT, so join us while we show you all of the amazing Sicilian food to try in Catania!

We are starting our morning at the insane Catania Fish Market. This place is buzzing with fish mongers screaming, chopping and transporting seafood that came fresh from the port early in the morning. For seafood lovers, this market is heaven!

????Pescheria di Catania

Within the market are a few seafood restaurants and street food stalls. We stopped into a fried fish joint and ordered a Fish in Cone (no bones) for breakfast! The mixed fish were fresh and super crunchy!

????Scirocco (inside fish market)

As the fish market slowly closed for the day, we made our way across Catania for some Sicilian treats. We stopped into a pasticceria and ordered a few dishes. The first was Arinicina Ragu, which was shaped like Mt. Etna and STUFFED with cheese! The next dish was Cassata which is a Sicilian sponge cake. It was a little too sweet for us. We also ordered our favourite Italian dessert, cannoli. These are so incredible in Sicily!!! And to wash it all down and balance the sweetness, we ordered a shakerato coffee. This caffe had a traditional feel!

????Pasticceria Savia

After exploring Catania in the afternoon, it was time to eat a unique Sicilian dinner. We went to a local trattoria that is famous for their horse meat, which we had never tried before. We ordered the horse fillet steak, a plate of mussels and caponata (fried eggplant salad). The horse was absolutely delicious and served medium rare, and we highly recommend trying it while in Catania!

????Trattoria del Cavaliere

In this video I explore Sicily, Italy. I visit towns in the South East region of Sicily, including Catania, Noto, Syracuse and Ortigia. Sicily is a fascinating island in the South of Italy, with a rich mix of culture, history, food and the friendliest locals in Italy! I explore the bustling fish market in Catania, as well as try some popular Catanese dishes like pasta alla norma and eggplant caponata, I also feel adventurous enough to try the Catania specialty, horse meat burgers! I then visit the beautiful region of Noto and do some wine tasting of the famous nero d'avola red wine at a beautiful vineyard. Noto is a beautiful town known for it's sandstone cathedrals. Pedara Sicily walking tour 4k

#Pedara #Sicily

Pedara rises on the southern hills of Etna, evolving socially and demographically over the centuries around the ancient craters of mount Difeso and mount Troina. There is no certain information on its origins because the numerous lava flows have almost completely erased its traces.
During the summer season it is a holiday resort due to the cooler climate than in Catania due to the altitude. In the northern part there is the ancient rural village of Tarderia, immersed in a wide extension of chestnut groves with mountain flora and alpine tree species. From Pedara you can easily reach Etna (about 15 km.). Along the provincial road to Etna, the pit of the Salto del Cane, an ancient extinct crater with equipped area (Base Point for Hiking in the Etna Park).

Palazzo Montevago Gravina di Ramacca

The Ferrara family owns most of this palace. They made their money with a local pasta factory, and when they sold it, they bought this palace, and spent six years refurbishing it, including the frescoes on the ceiling. The largest Murano chandelier came out of a Taormina hotel. Marcello Lampone eyed it and said it was a good two meters, 20 centimeters wide. That's well over six feet wide. he flipped the lights on and off for me for effect, saying, I'm like a member of the family here, and they seemed to treat him that way. Ferraro pere was the president of the Palermo soccer club, quite and honor and responsibility. Ferrara fils told me that Marcello had gone to school in the very room of the giant chandelier, before it was refurbished, when it was a state elementary school and Marcello lived across the street. You would never know from the grimy portone and exterior of the palace that inside was such a luxurious jewel. In Palermo rich people and aristocrats (who are not necessarily rich) live cheek by jowl with the poor folk.

Villa Malfitano, Palermo, Sicily

Villa Malfatino was built in 1886 by Joseph (Pip) Whitaker, inheritor of a fortune made in the Marsala wine trade. The rooms are idiosyncratically designed - a French rococo room, a summer room painted as a conservatory etc.

All’interno un unico grande spazio, altamente suggestivo.

A Serra de Conti vengono organizzate diverse interessanti manifestazioni.
