Near Urukunnu, near Thenmala in Kollam district, lies a quaint picnic spot called Pandavan Para or the Rock of the Pandavas, mythical heroes of the epic Mahabharata. At the base of the great hill where one finds this pristine location, lies a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Here one can enjoy the views from different angles of Thenmala including the adjoining hills, forests, the Kallada dam and the lake behind it and the railway line that passes by the mountain bases and over arched stone bridges. At the summit there is the rocky outcrop, where chilly winds greet you. The place is 66 km from Kollam junction.

Thenmala Malayalam Travel Vlog by Monsoon Media: Thenmala is a tourist place near Punalur town, Kollam district in Kerala. Thenmala is the first planned eco-tourism destination in India. The Thenmala dam was built across Kallada River. Thenmala is famous for being the shooting location in Malayalam and Tamil movies.
Thenmala attracts foreign and domestic tourists with a host of attractions. Boating on the lake, a rope bridge, trekking, mountaineering, biking and a musical fountain. Thenmala is approachable both from Trivandrum and Punalur by road. The waterfall called Palaruvi is a prime attraction nearby. Also nearby is a deer rehabilitation center where visitors can see deer in a forest setting and have a peep into a traditional tree house used by forest dwellers to escape harm from wild animals. Other places near Thenmala are Kulathupuzha, Anchal, Punalur, Kamukumchery and Shenkottah in Tirunelveli district(Tamil Nadu). Themala is 72 km from Thiruvanathapuram and 16 km from Palaruvi Falls.

Punalur Hanging Bridge View [ Kollam, Kerala, India ]
The Punalur Suspension Bridge, located in Punalur is the oldest motorable Bridge in Kerala, which was built by the British and is now a historical attraction. The bridge has a length of 400 feet. The suspension bridge was built to prevent wild animals from crossing into the town from the forest area of old Kattupathanapuram. Punalur is the largest Hill City in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the second largest City in Kollam District. The Punalur Suspension Bridge is the first motorable bridge in South India. The suspension bridge crossing the river is the only suspended-deck type in south India. Built in 1877 by Albert Henry across the Kallada River, this huge bridge was suspended by two spans and was used for vehicular movement. Construction took more than six years.

Konni Achankovil Forest Road | Konni Reserve Forest | Achankovil Forest Drive | 4K UHD
Konni - Achankovil is a beautiful forest road through the dense Konni reserve forest, Achankovil is a small forest village or town inside the Konni reserve forest where the famous Achankovil temple is located. Achankovil is famous for this pilgrimage Ayyappan temple. This Konni Achankovil road is an inter state road to go to Tamilnadu, Thenkasi area. Achankovil is 41.2km away from Konni and Achankovil to Thenkasi some 30km there, most of these are through the Konni reserve forest which is also called Achankovil reserve forest. There are few tourist attractions other than the Achankovil temple, like the Kumbhavurutty and Manalar waterfalls, Achankovil river etc.
Achankovil Konni forest route is little risky as there are high chances of animals encounters in the narrow forest road. We need to be careful while driving through this forest road. Elephants and sambar deers are regular sightings while driving through the Achankovil forest road. Njavanal Forest check post near Konni will be closed by 6 PM.

The Thenmala Dam is a popular ecotourism destination in Kerala. The Dam, which impounds the largest reservoir in the state which was built under the Kallada Irrigation and Tree Crop development project. The construction of the Parappar Dam across the confluence of the Chenduruney, Kazhuthurutty and Kulathupuzha rivers has resulted in the creation of a beautiful artificial lake of about 26 Sq. Km. which spreads along the middle of the Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary. It is the largest irrigation project in Kerala.
At a distance of 68 km from Kollam, 39 km from Tenkasi & 73 km from Trivandrum, Thenmala Dam also known as Kallada Dam or Parappara Dam located in Thenmala village is built across Kalla River. It is situated very close to Kollam - Tenkasi road. The dam is located amidst picturesque location with beautiful surroundings at the foothills of the Western Ghats.
