Prasat Muang Tam (Thai: ปราสาทเมืองต่ำ, 'lowland castle') is a Khmer Hindu Temple in Prakhon Chai District, Buriram Province, Thailand. It is primarily in the Khleang and Baphuon styles, which dates its primary phases of construction to the late-10th and early-11th centuries. The primary deity was Shiva, although Vishnu was also worshipped there.
Muang Tam sits at the base of Phnom Rung hill, beside a kilometer-long reservoir (baray). It was built in the tenth or eleventh century, and probably abandoned in the thirteenth century or so. People only returned to the area in the early twentieth century, and the name Muang Tam dates from that time. Muang Tam means Lower City, and is in reference to the 'higher' city on Phnom Rung. Nobody seems to know what the Khmer originally called the temple.

The ponds between the enclosures are an unusual feature of the temple, as is the central sanctuary, which is not elevated and has its towers arranged in rows of three and two. All the towers except the central one have been restored.
Kala are particularly prominent in the lintels of the temple. They are the best available aid in dating the structure, but the mix of styles (Khleang and Baphuon) makes accurate dating impossible. Several of the lintels on the outer gopuras are unfinished.

Like most Khmer temples, Muang Tam is oriented towards the east. It has a flat concentric plan, with a central sanctuary and two libraries surrounded successively by an inner enclosure, ponds, and an outer enclosure. The ponds between the enclosures are an unusual feature of the temple, as is the central sanctuary, which is not elevated and has its towers arranged in rows of three and two rather than in a quincunx. All the towers except the central one have been restored.
Kala are particularly prominent in the lintels of the temple. They are the best available aid in dating the structure, but the mix of styles (Khleang and Baphuon) makes accurate dating impossible. Several of the lintels on the outer gopuras are unfinished.
A small baray, probably contemporaneous with the temple, lay to the east, while a later, larger baray survives further north between Muang Tam and Phanom Rung.

Prasat Hin Phanom Rung (In Thai) Or Phanom Rung Stone Castle is a Hindu Khmer Empire Temple complex set on the rim of an extinct volcano at 402 metres (1,319 ft) elevation. It is located in Buriram Province in the Isan region of Thailand and was built at a time when Khmer social-political influences were significant in Srisaket. It was built of sandstone and laterite between the 10th and 13th centuries. It was a Hindu shrine dedicated to Shiva and symbolises Mount Kailash, his heavenly dwelling. The Phanom Rung sanctuary compound was constructed over several phases, dated by means of the iconography of its art and architectural styles together with its inscriptions. These comprise two foundations of sacred brick buildings of the 10th century C.E., the minor sanctuary of the 11th century, the central sanctuary built by king Suryavarman II’s relative Narentratitaya in the 12th century and two Bannalais (libraries) of the 13th century. Further sacred buildings were built in the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the 13th century, including the Royal attire Changing Pavilion, the Kudi Rishis of Nong Bua Ray, the medical centre or hospital (Arokayasala) and Prasat Ban Bu, a rest house with fire where travellers could shelter (Dharmasala) on the plain at the foot of Phanom Rung, alongside the road linking Angkor and Phimai. These evidence an important vice-regal centre on and around the mountain that flourishes from the 10th to the 13th centuries.
Thailand's Department of Fine Arts and French experts spent 17 years restoring the complex to its original state from 1971 to 1988. On 21 May 1988, the park was officially opened by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.[1] In 2005, the temple was submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a future World Heritage Site.

Travel Route :
It is located at Village No. 2, Ban Don Nong Haen, Tapek Subdistrict, Chaloem Phra Kiat District. 77 kilometres south of Buriram city to travel to Phanom Rung Historical Park by private car. Can choose to travel 2 routes out of Buriram Province as follows
1 Travel by using Highway No. 218 (Buriram-Nang Rong) for about 50 kilometres, then turn left onto Highway No. 24 (Sikhio-Ubon Ratchathani) until reaching Tako Village for about 14 kilometres, then turn right onto Highway No. 2117 passing Ban Ta Pek Chaloem Phra Kiat District, about 12 kilometres to reach Phanom Rung, Historical Park.
2 Travel using Highway No. 219 (Buriram - Prakhon Chai) for a distance of about 44 kilometres to Prakhon Chai District. You will see a junction leading to Phanom Rung Historical Park. It takes about 21 kilometres to travel by using Highway No. 2075 and turning right onto Highway No. 2117 to reach Phanom Rung Historical Park.
If travelling by using a bus from Buriram Bus Terminal then take the bus line Buriram - Chanthaburi Arriving at Tako Village and then get .off the car Then there will be a minibus running to Phanom Rung Historical Park. Or you can ride a motorcycle taxi
