10 Things That SHOCK Tourists about The South

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Capital of the Pelican State | Baton Rouge, LA

In the far south of the American core lies the land of Louisiana. This is no ordinary new state debut, for this new state sets us officially at the halfway mark within our great Coverage Project journey of visiting all 50. So let it be known that the Pelican State, a land associated with its great French heritage, hot and humid conditions, and an easygoing social atmosphere, has become the distinctive 25th state visited. According to legend, reaching inland, upstream along the mighty Mississippi River, the French frontiersmen of yesterday stumbled upon a blood-stained wooden stake impaled into the ground. The exact reason for this stick was long to time, yet the name given by these explorers, Baton Rouge (French for red stick) stuck to this day as what to call this area. The US ultimately acquired the Louisiana Purchase and later made sure that Louisiana the newly admitted state would be administered in this small but growing city, in order to shift the balance of power away from the already thriving port city of New Orleans. Having seen so much, from its active danger and peril during the days of Civil War conflict to the rise and fall of America's most daring political leader, Baton Rouge always has enough stories to share to her visitors. Much more than a seat of government, this special location warrants your attention as one of many bastions of Louisiana's spirit.

Location Covered: Baton Rouge, LA ✅

Exploring Baton Rouge Louisiana (Mississippi Road Trip, Part 3)

In today's video, Free Tours by Foot New Orleans guides Robi and Andrew and cameraman James visit Baton Rouge, Louisiana's state capital. MORE VIDEOS IN THIS SERIES

While it's younger and less often visited than New Orleans, Baton Rouge is still full of history and things to do that many visitors to the state don't know about.

We leave the highway for the more historic view of Highland Road on the way to the campus of Louisiana State University, where we see a stadium you can live in and what may be some of the oldest man-made structures in the world.

We also visit downtown Baton Rouge, where we see historic buildings, a US Navy pirate ship, and the tallest state capitol in the country - itself a monument to one of the strangest governors in US history. We finish in Baton Rouge's version of the French Quarter, which is even the home to Baton Rouge's own Mardi Gras.

This is the third installment of our 5-part NOLA to Natchez Road Trip series. Episodes release weekly on Tuesdays.

Other RVers came while we were there and we all sat around the table enjoying great cajun food and stories. One of the best experiences we had with a boondocker welcome host.

We did plan to get some work done but that didn't happen. We were having to much fun to do so. Now we are making our way into Texas and heading straight to Austin. Can't wait for some BBQ.
