The ecosystem in Kalochori, Thessaloniki, is located on the west side of Thermaikos Gulf and is the beginning of the Axios Delta National Park. In the area you can see the estuary of the Galikos River and the Kalohori lagoon. Here are the estuaries of Axios, Loudias and Aliakmonas, while in the southern part there is the lagoon of Alykes Kitrous. An incredible wetland with over 295 bird species to live there, 27 species of amphibians and reptiles coexist harmoniously.

Driving in Greece: Thessaloniki and the Road to Halkidiki

In this video you can drive along in the center of Thessaloniki as we drive out of the city in the direction of Halkidiki. Our hotel was in the city center so we had to drive straight through the center to get out of the city. It was probably one of the most chaotic drives I have ever done ;)
Once you get used to the driving style in Eastern Europe, there isn't a lot that can surprise you. Having driven in both Bucharest and Sofia, I thought I had seen it all. However, as you can see in this video, in some situations there isn't much left of the 3-lane city road with all the double-parked cars. Add random pedestrians crossing, cars running red lights and scooters flying by left and right and you have a party :)
Once out of the city, we enter the peripheral road East of Thessaloniki, driving South towards Halkidiki. It merges into the A24 just South of the city and continues all the way as a 2x2 expressway to the peninsula. Make sure to check out this earlier video I did on the A24 if you haven't already:
