Back in May of 2019, I spent several days exploring the city of Seoul, South Korea. These are the top 25 things to see, do, and eat in Seoul, South Korea!
1. KOREAN BARBECUE – Fatty, high-quality grilled meats with fresh incredients and sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. Try samgyeopsal and galbi!
2. KOREAN COOKING CLASS – Take a Korean cooking class to learn to make your favorite local dishes, like sundubu jjigae and haemulpajeon. If I can do it, so can you!
3. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF KOREA – The flagship museum for showcasing Korean history and art.
4. KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN & BEER – Some of the tastiest and highest-quality fried chicken in the world!
5. THE WAR MEMORIAL OF KOREA – A sobering museum that commemorates the lives lost during the Korean War between 1950 and 1954.
6. JOGYESA TEMPLE – A beautiful Buddhist temple in the Insa-Dong neighborhood that was built in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty.
7. KOREAN CONVENIENCE STORE – An important element of Korean culture, and a place where you can buy fresh, tasty, and healthy foods like triangle gimbap and yachae juk.
8. CHEONGWADAE SARANGCHAE – A museum that teaches its visitors about South Korea’s recent past with exhibits about the nation’s presidents, tourist destinations, and more.
9. TONGIN MARKET – A covered market that offers a wide variety of delicious Korean street foods like kimchijeon and tteok-bokki.
10. RENT A HANBOK – Renting a traditional, 17th-century outfit called a hanbok will gain you free entry into Gyeongbokgung Palace and make for a more immersive experience.
11. GYEONGBOKGUNG PALACE – A massive palatial complex that was built in 1395 and served as the home of the Joseon kings.
12. KOREAN STEWS & PORRIDGES – Near Gyeongbokgung Palace is a shop that sells delicious manduguk (Korean dumpling stew) and saeujuk (shrimp & rice porridge)
13. CHANGDEOKGUNG PALACE – A Joseon-era palace that contains a secret garden and a stunning hall for royal ceremonies.
14. NAMDAEMUN MARKET – A traditional market with 10,000 stalls and dates back to 1414. Check out the wooden masks and the kimchi mandu!
15. CHEONGGYECHEON STREAM – A peaceful and lush oasis in the middle of Seoul that consists of a stream and two pedestrian boardwalks.
16. GIMBAP CHEONGUK – A Korean restaurant chain that offers delicious fare including kimchi mandu and donkkaseu.
17. NAMSAN SEOUL TOWER & NAMSAN CABLE CAR – One of Seoul’s most prominent landmarks, which has an observation deck at its top.
18. HONGDAE – A youth-oriented neighborhood that is full of K-Pop culture and is home to clothing stores, street food stalls, and bars.
19. LOTTE WORLD TOWER – The 5th-tallest building in the world, which is home to a food court and the highest glass-bottomed observation deck on Earth.
20. GANGNAM AREA MONUMENT – A monument that honors the song “Gangnam Style” by Korean rapper PSY.
21. MYEONGDONG– A touristy area of soul where you can try delicious street foods including egg buns, Myeongdong tteokgalbi, and dakkkochigui.

Homigot Sunrise Square (호미곶 해맞이광장)
Introduction
Homigot is located at the easternmost end of the Korean peninsula, in what would be considered to be the tail, if thinking of the Korean peninsula as a tiger. When Kim Jeongho made the Daedongyeojido Map, he visited this place seven times to confirm this area is in fact the easternmost part of Korea. Following the resources of Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, the sunrise time of Homigot on January 1 is at 7:32 am, making it the earliest first sunrise of each year in Korea. The plaza was built to commemorate these research findings with the national Sunrise Festival. Nearby attractions include Korea's largest lighthouse, Homigot Lighthouse, established in 1908; Lighthouse Museum; Monument to Commemorate Lee Yuk-sa’s Patriotism; and Daebo Seawater Bath, using pure seawater of the East Sea.
When completed, Homigot Tourism Complex and Homigot Specialized Ocean Leisure Complex will be the largest tourism complex in the eastern coast district. It will include an ocean aquarium, Ocean Ecological Park, Youth Training facilities, beach dome, accommodation facilities, and other various stores as well.
Homigot Lighthouse (호미곶 등대)
Introduction
The Homigot Lighthouse was built using bricks in a modern architectural style. This octagonal, six-story building is 26.4 meters high. The entrance and windows feature gable decorations, which is a popular Greek Revival style. The ceiling is dome-shaped and the octagonal plane gets wider towards the bottom. The light of the lighthouse can reach as far as 35 kilometers away.
Yeongildae Beach (영일대해수욕장)
Yeongildae Beach is the largest beach on the Korea east coast, at over 400,000 m². Along with Songdo Beach, it is known as one of the most popular beaches in Pohang. It is a great place for families and friends during summer vacations. It is conveniently located with plenty of lodgings and amenities such as restaurants offering fresh seafood including sashimi.

Going to a water park is one of Koreans’ favorite summer activities. Summer in Korea is known for being incredibly hot and humid, so what better way to escape the heat than going to a water park?
Korean water parks, whether indoors or outdoors, have many facilities: you can swim around in the pools, go on adventurous water slides, float and chill on a tube in wave pools if you can’t swim, and even relax in a spa. Locker rooms and restaurants are a given!
Prices start around KRW 50,000 and can go higher depending on the park, the season and the day of the week.
Some water parks have free shuttle bus service, picking up customers from Seoul and Gyeonggi-do for free, making getting there easier.
Here’s what you need to know about water parks and swimming pools in Korea:
1. Shower before and after entering the pools.
2. No shoes are allowed in the locker rooms.
3. Swim cap is mandatory.
4. Many Koreans go into the swimming pools with t-shirts or long sleeves on and that is not unusual.
5. Safety is taken seriously, so be aware that children, depending on their height, will NOT be allowed on certain slides.
6. You might have to separately rent special items like life vests and sauna clothing from inside the water park.
7. Bringing food from outside is sometimes prohibited (some water parks allow it, but you can only eat it in a designated area in the park).

????Pohang Day Trip???? || Homigot, Japanese Street, Tipsy Cow, and Fotopia! VLOG
We took advantage of a sunny weekend to make a trip to Pohang. It was only a 2 hour drive! Hopefully, the virus will be further controlled so that we can continue to explore Korea, while we have this great opportunity.
????PLACES ????
➭ 호미곷 Homigot Sunrise Square - Explored this area first. We got our infamous photo of the bronze hand reaching out of the sea. This statue is a part of a pair of hands. One is located in the sea and the other on land. It’s meant to symbolize coexisting harmoniously.
➭ 구룡포일본인가옥거리 Guryongpo Japanese Houses Street - In the 1920’s this was a giant fishery port that was heavily occupied by Japanese folk. The houses have been preserved to showcase moments of history. Now it is very popular for having made it’s appearance in the k-drama, When the Camellia Blooms 동백꽃 필 무렵.
➭ TipsyCow - As I can’t eat seafood, a burger seemed to be the best alternative. This is a burger joint right outside of Korea’s one and only US Marine base, Camp Mujuk. The dinner hall has been newly renovated and nicely decorated to display the great rapport they have with soldiers from Camp Mujuk. The staff spoke great English and were so polite! Aaron and I both had burgers that were incredibly filling. At the end of our meal, 사장님 was kind enough to offer us Americanos.
➭ 포토피아 Cafe Fotopia - This is a cafe/wedding photo studio. The cafe serves elegant coffee and tea beverages alongside decadent breads. Passed the back patio is a Colosseum inspired building. This is their photo studio that offers many themed sets. The studio is open to the public to wander and take their own photos, although kids are not permitted. We enjoyed wandering around and posing in front of the many sets available.
