Bellevue Nebraska - The Visit

Bellevue, Nebraska

Bellevue (French for beautiful view) is a city in Sarpy County, Nebraska, about eight miles south of Omaha. The population was 50,137 at the 2010 census. Originally settled in the 1830s, Bellevue was the first state capitol. Bellevue was incorporated in 1855 and is the oldest continuous town in Nebraska. The Nebraska State Legislature has credited the town as being the second oldest settlement in Nebraska.

This is part two of a two part series on Bellevue, Nebraska.

Omaha, Nebraska ???????? Driving Downtown 4K

Spend 60 minutes watching the new video from the Travel and Relax YouTube channel @atravelandrelax: Omaha, Nebraska ???????? Driving Downtown 4K

Omaha is the largest city in the U.S. state of Nebraska and the county seat of Douglas County. Founded in 1854, the city of Omaha has always been a dynamic, energetic city continually transforming itself.
Whether it was the Native American Indian tribes, pioneers, railroad laborers or meat packers, everyone who came to call Omaha home helped shape its current cultural diversity, hard work ethic, and friendly demeanor. Named after an American Indian Tribe, Omaha means Those going against the wind or current, Omahans proudly continue to live up to the name.
The city was founded along the Missouri River, and a crossing called Lone Tree Ferry earned the city its nickname, the Gateway to the West. Omaha introduced this new West to the world in 1898, when it played host to the World's Fair, dubbed the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. During the 19th century, Omaha's central location in the United States spurred the city to become an important national transportation hub. Throughout the rest of the 19th century, the transportation and jobbing sectors were important in the city, along with its railroads and breweries. In the 20th century, the Omaha Stockyards, once the world's largest, and its meatpacking plants gained international prominence.
Presently, Omaha is the home to the headquarters of four Fortune 500 companies: conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway; one of the world's largest construction companies, Kiewit Corporation; insurance and financial firm Mutual of Omaha; and the United States' largest railroad operator, Union Pacific Corporation.
In recent years, the Omaha riverfront and downtown area have experienced tremendous growth with over two billion dollars in new development. A one-of-a-kind $22 million pedestrian bridge S-curves its way across the Missouri River, the signature, cable-stayed Bob Kerrey Bridge is one of the longest pedestrian bridge projects ever constructed, giving Omaha visitors a breathtaking view of the ever-changing skyline.
Currently, the 42nd largest city in the United States, the metropolitan area is home to over 900,000 people. @atravelandrelax

Bnsf In Plattsmouth Ne

INFO WILL BE ADDED LATER

A bike ride through the Capehart Subdivision, my childhood neighborhood.

On my trip across the northern part of the United States, I stopped in Bellevue, Nebraska to revisit the neighborhood where my family lived when I was a preteen (age 9-11, 10/1968 - 10/1971). We lived in the first duplex in Barksdale Ct., but the neighborhood, and most of the duplexes, have changed dramatically.

The field behind our duplex, where we used to gather for pickup games of football and baseball, where we would sled during winter and ride mini-bikes in the summer, has now been replaced by Lockbourne Drive. The field, where we would ride our bicycles along dirt trails, is now filed with new homes along 29th Ave. & 29th St., but LeMay Elementary School is still there and looks basically the same as I remember. Even some of the same playground equipment is still there.

I'm glad I found my way back to Nebraska, but also sad to see all the changes. I hope you enjoy my meandering bike ride and, for you others who lived here at some point, I hope it brings back some good memories.

065 Flying Over Sabula, Iowa, The Town On An Island In The Mississippi River

Winter DJI Mini 2 drone flight over Sabula, Iowa. Sabula is pronounced Sab-yula. So sorry for pronouncing it incorrectly throughout the video!

If you joined me on my last video, we went to the northwest corner of Illinois to Savanna on the Mississippi River.
Today we’re going to drive south on Hwy 84 past the Mississippi Palisades with its pretty bluffs and lookouts but before we get into Savanna, we’re going to turn west on Hwy 52 and cross over Mississippi River and the Savanna – Sabula Bridge and head toward Iowa’s Island City.
The part of Hwy 52 that we’re on is only two or three miles long and is basically sort of a bridge or causeway that takes you through swamp, wetlands and river. Unfortunately, other than the pullout on the west side of the bridge, there’s no place to stop along the road because the area would be an excellent place for birding. It would also be a good place to get lost in a canoe.
When the snow and ice melt, this will all be water on both sides.
Legend has it that Sabula was founded in 1835 when a man by the name of Isaac Dorman crossed the river from the Illinois side on a log and decided to live there. Sabula is a name of French origin meaning sand and refers to the sandy soil in the area.
Sabula was incorporated in 1864. In the late 1800s, one of the town’s main industries was a pearl button factory which produced buttons from clam shells harvested from large nearby clam beds. The town also had a hog slaughtering facility.
Sabula didn’t actually become an island until the 1930s when the Army Corps of Engineers built Lock and Dam #13 downstream just north of Clinton, flooding the lowlands west of the town.
Today Sabula, which once has a population of more than 1200, has just under 500. It has a railroad line running through it with major railroad facilities in Savanna and Clinton.
The town also has a small marina and county park with a campground.

Driving US I35 E Dallas North to South Drive

Episode 0: We start from the Carrollton / North Texas border on Old Mill just west of the BNSF railroad tracks and go south to Trinity Mills where we turn right to go west along the President George Bush Turnpike which we merge onto, and then take a nearly immediate exit to take Interstate 35E south which takes us along the west side of Dallas until we cross into downtown and go through the downtown tunnel and merge onto Interstate 45 south heading towards Houston and Galveston. In this video we go as far as Exit 66 which is the Union Pacific Intermodal train yards. We end by pulling into the Love's Truck Stop parking lot (where I grab dinner at Carl's Jr - the Beyond Famous Star is the best! - no we are not sponsored.)
