DAY 17 Xian to Pingliang, Gansu Province
This is Day 17 of the Hong Kong to Urumqi, Xinjiang trip. On this day, I rode 300km from the ancient capital of Xian to the town of Pingliang in Gansu Province. Left on a wet morning, but once I hit the deserts of Gansu Province, I dried up very quickly.

Continuing on my Silk Road trip, this is Day 18 of the Hong Kong to Urumqi, Xinjiang trip. On this day, I rode 300km from the town of Pingliang in Gansu Province to Lanzhou also in Gansu. Lanzhou is the birthplace of Lanzhou Noodles.

Gansu(甘肃省) in 4K
A short video about my trip through the beautiful Gansu province in China, during which I have witnessed the lesser know deserty nature of this amazing country. The places I've visited include The Rainbow Mountains, Pingshan Canyon, the starting point of The Great Wall, the dunes of Dunhuang, and others. It was my first time renting a car and driving long distances in China, so that was a great experience as well!

China's Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge opened to the public on August 20th for its trial operation. The maximum visitor to the bridge is 8000 every day. Let's take the look at the hilarious reactions from the first visitors.

In 2008, I walked through China - 1 year, 4500km. I let my hair and my beard grow. This is the resulting video. UPDATE: ▶ I have decided to continue my walk home from China to Germany. I'm currently in Turkey, or about halfway through.I post daily videos on this channel, and I blog about it here:
ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
▶ I didn't finish my original goal of walking to Germany in 2008. Instead, I walked for a year and roughly 4500km, passed the Gobi desert, and then decided to stop walking.
▶ All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi was completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.
▶ I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.
▶ Obtaining the necessary visa for a trip like this was not very easy, hence I had to go back to Beijing a few times to resolve some issues.
▶ This is not a strict 1 pic a day video, because I wanted to make it a bit more alive by adding some additional movement. Sometimes during the film you would follow me turn around, or something would happen in the background. I tried to capture these moments to make the video more interesting.

Ning County, Qingyang, Gansu, China
Ning County, part of Qingyang City, Gansu Province. It is located in southeastern Gansu Province, separated from Fuxian and Huangling counties in Shaanxi Province to the east. It is adjacent to Zhengning County in the southeast. To the southwest, it is separated from Pingliang Jingchuan County and Changwu County of Shaanxi Province by Pu River and Jing Water. To the northwest, it borders with Xifeng District. To the north, it is contiguous with Heshui County, with a total area of 2,653.38 sq. km. In 2019, Ning County had a registered population of 559,300. As of October 2021, Ning County has 14 towns and 4 townships under its jurisdiction.
In the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Yiqu County was established and the county of Beidi was ruled. In the 2nd year of the Republic of China (1913), Ningzhou was changed to Ning County. 2002, it belonged to Qingyang City. in February 2020, Gansu Provincial People's Government approved Ning County to withdraw from poverty-stricken counties.
