Have you followed our expeditions on social media? This is our fourth route - Saryarka, which covered Pavlodar, Karagandy, Akkmola and North Kazakhstan regions in the central and northern parts of Kazakhstan.

A month ago, the largest expedition to the regions of Kazakhstan - #ulydalatravel came to its end. The expedition covered 6 routes from July 18 to September 29, 2018. The expedition participants got over more than 17,000 kilometers, visited 11 regions of Kazakhstan, 12 national nature parks and more than 130 travel locations.
Over 150 people participated in the exhibition, including professional guides, experienced travellers, journalists, travel bloggers, deputies, media personalities, the crew of Kazakh TV channel and the team of National Geographic Russia. As a result, new travel routes were formed, a photo and video bank about the country's natural objects was created, and information about their condition was updated.

The ninth-largest country in the world, Kazakhstan covers a vast swathe of territory in Central Asia. While many people imagine it to be solely made up of endless, featureless steppe, dramatic mountains, canyons, lakes, and valleys can be found dotted about here and there.

A human-made ecological disaster of the highest order, the Aral Sea dramatically decreased in size from 1960 onwards. Disastrous Soviet-era state plans saw its waters diverted to cotton fields in the desert, where it immediately evaporated or seeped below ground. Once the fourth-largest body of fresh water in the world, the Aral Sea now stands at just a fraction of its former size, and it is only in recent years that a slow recovery has been made.
Kolsai Lake
Lying around 250 kilometers away from Almaty, Kolsai Lake actually has three lakes to visit. Strung out along the Kolsay River that weaves its way among the forest-coated Tian Shan Mountains, the shimmering lakes are often referred to as the ‘Pearls of Tian Shan.’ There is an absolutely gorgeous but strenuous hike you can do that takes you all the way from the lower to the upper lake.
Aksu-Zhabagly
Established all the way back in 1926, Aksu-Zhabagly is the oldest nature reserve in the whole of Central Asia. Encompassing everything from lofty, snow-capped mountain peaks and glaciers to gushing rivers, sweeping valleys, and, of course, endless steppe, Aksu-Zhabagly really is a treat to explore.

The undoubted highlight is the gorgeous 14th-century mausoleum of Kozha Akhmed Yasaui, which looks like it would be more at home in one of Uzbekistan’s ancient Silk Road cities than in Kazakhstan.

Pavlodar, city, northeastern Kazakhstan. It is a port on the Irtysh (Ertis) River.
The community was founded in 1720 as Koryakovsky outpost on the Russian Irtysh fortified line, near salt lakes.
It became the town of Pavlodar in 1861, but, although it did a substantial trade in salt and agricultural produce,
its population was only about 8,000 in 1897.
Since then and particularly since the mid-1960s, it has grown considerably to become a major industrial centre,
with tractor, aluminum, and chemical plants. An oil refinery was completed in 1978.
The city has industrial and teacher-training institutes. Pop. (2006 est.) 304,809.
The climate of Pavlodar area is of moderate type, sharp continental one.
Long severe winters with steady snow and hot summers with slow precipitation.
The average temperature in July is 21,2 degs C above zero, in January - 17,9 degs C below zero.
Since the mid-1960s, Pavlodar city has grown considerably to become a major industrial center,
with tractor, aluminum, and chemical plants. An oil refinery was completed in 1978 in Pavlodar.
As the location of a major tank factory, Pavlodar city was closed to foreigners until 1992.
Pavlodar city has regular railway and bus connection with all the settlements in Pavlodar oblast,
with regional centers of Kazakhstan and foreign cities (Russian Federation, China, Germany).
There are regular flights around Kazakhstan and charter flights to Russia, Germany, Turkey, China and
Arab Emirates.
