A popular port in Odisha, and commercial sea-port of the country, Paradeep, also boasts a pristine beach covering the mouth of crystal clear blue waters where people come especially for sunbathing and to observe the scenic sunset and sunrise. This beach is 94 kilometers from Cuttack, 125 kilometers from Temple city Bhubaneswar. It is at the assemblage of the Mahanadi River and the Bay of Bengal. Tourists visit the beach every year as a relaxation spot where they can de-stress themselves.

Ratnagiri Buddhist Monastery ,Odisha//Ratnagiri Odisha//365 Travel Trip
Ratnagiri (Odia: ରତ୍ନଗିରି, meaning hill of jewels) is the site of a ruined mahavihara, once the major Buddhist monastery in modern Odisha, India. It is located on a hill in between the Brahmani and Birupa rivers in Jajpur district. It is close to other Buddhist sites in the area, including Lalitagiri and Udayagiri, and 100 km (62 mi) from the state capital Bhubaneswar and 70km from the former state capital Cuttack.
The Buddhist monuments were constructed from the 5th century CE onwards, with the last work in the 13th century, and the peak period of work done between about the 7th to 10th centuries. After perhaps the 16th century the site ceased to be used and fell into ruins. These were little known until the 1960s when major campaigns of excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) revealed the site, producing large quantities of very fine sculpture. Monastery 1 has been described as the finest in terms of carved stone decoration to have survived in India.Some of this was removed to museums elsewhere, with much left on site. A museum at the site has recently been opened to house many pieces.
The main elements were an impressive stupa (Stupa 1) surrounded by several hundred smaller stupas of varying dimensions, three quadrangular monasteries (Monasteries 1 to 3). Monastery 1 is much the largest, with a beautiful carved doorway, spacious open courtyard, cells and verandah facing the courtyard, with a spacious shrine centred on a colossal Buddha.

The buildings are mainly in brick (much of which has now been removed), but the doorways, pillars and sculpture are mostly in two types of stone, which contrast attractively. These are a blue-green chlorite and the local khondalite, a garniferous gneiss with plum-coloured overtones. The large numbers of sculptures in stone, with a few (27) bronze and brass figures,excavated at the site are mostly in the Post-Gupta style, the earlier ones continuing the classic style of Gupta art. They are mostly images of Buddha and the Buddhist pantheon, and analysis of the trends in subjects over time suggests that Ratnagiri turned to become a centre of Tantric Buddhism, as did Nalanda in Bihar. In particular, over two dozen colossal Buddha heads have been found.
Paradeep Port - Important commercial sea port of India
Paradip, also spelt Paradeep, is a major seaport town and a designated notified area in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, India.
Paradip Port is one of the Major Ports of India serving the Eastern and Central parts of the country. The Port of Paradip founded by Raghavendra, is the primary port in Odisha, and one of the largest on India's east coast. The port handled over 57 million tonnes of cargo in 2009-2010. Thermal coal and iron ore are major commodities that transit the port. Its hinterland extends to the States of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. The Port mainly deals with bulk cargo apart from other clean cargoes. There is unprecedented growth in the traffic handled at this Port in the last decade. The Port has got ambitious expansion programme to double its capacity to meet the ever increasing demand. Paradip is emerging as a major industrial hub with several upcoming steel plants including a US$12 billion plant being developed by POSCO of South Korea. In addition, alumina refineries, thermal power plants, and a petrochemical complex are under development.
Paradip has been identified for development as one of the six major petroleum, chemicals and petrochemical investment regions (PCPIRs) in India, along the lines of Pudong in China, Rotterdam in Europe and Houston in North America. The Paradip PCPIR has identified an investment potential of US $68.84 billion, spread over 284 square kilometres (110 sq mi) in the area.
Paradeep which is actually an estuary of the Mahanadi River, is one of the most popular beaches of Orissa. Covered by green forests and adorned with natural creeks and island, the Paradeep beach is a paradise for all marine lovers. Paradeep attracts a number of tourists from all over the world and its shimmering golden beaches and aqua blue waters explain its popularity. The tropical sun and the long stretches of sandy beaches are the perfect place to soak oneself in the organic values of nature.
The attractions in Paradeep are not restricted to its beaches alone. There are a number of places that one can visit around Paradeep, these include Temple of Baladeva, Gahirmatha beach, Jhankad and Bhitarkanika National Park. Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar are respectively the nearest railhead and Airport of Paradeep. Reaching Paradeep from any part of Orissa is not a problem as it is well connected by road. The National Highway number 5A passes through Paradeep and links the sea side resort to 3 important tourist spots of the state, Udayagiri, Lalitgiri and Ratnagiri. The roads along the coast line is simply fascinating which makes the experience of traveling to Paradeep as ecstatic as the destination itself.
