The Chapelle des Apparitions in Paray-le-Monial, France

Paray-le-Monial, France is a small town in the Bourgogne region of eastern France. It is the place where the Sacred Heart of Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary of Alacoque. The apparitions and subsequent devotion to the Sacred Heart took place in the late 17th century. St. Margaret Mary's spiritual director was St. Claude de la Colombiere S.J. Both consecrated themselves to the Sacred Heart and promoted the devotion with much suffering. In 1856, Pope Pius IX proclaimed the Feast of the Sacred Heart for the entire Church and exhorted the faithful to consecrate themselves to the Sacred Heart (1875). St. Margaret Mary was canonized on May 13th, 1920.

PERSONALLY IT SEEMS TO ME ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES TO VISIT IN PARIS!

EN: The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur (French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, pronounced [sakʁe kœʁ]), is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica in Paris, France, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Sacré-Cœur Basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. It is a popular landmark, and the second-most visited monument in Paris. Sacré-Cœur Basilica has maintained a perpetual adoration of the Holy Eucharist since 1885. The basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was completed in 1914. The basilica was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

It is considered as both a political and cultural monument, representing a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and for the actions of the socialist Paris Commune of 1871. Sacré-Cœur Basilica was built in a neighborhood which witnessed significant events by the Paris Commune of 1871.

Virtual Tours: The Evolution of French Ecclesiastical Architecture

For our third instalment of Virtual Tours, join us as we look into the evolution of French architecture and learn not only of their origins, but also their features and construction – including a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture at the Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene, in the ancient hilltop village of Vézelay and the awe-inspiring Gothic Cathedral of Our Lady at Strasbourg.

The Chapel of Saint Stephen - Minerve (05:15)

The Chapel at Minerve was built in the 11th century in the Early Christian/Romanesque style to replace an older building which was located at the bottom of the hill. It is particularly interesting due to its ancient altar, which is known as the oldest altar still in regular use in Europe. On its facade are inscriptions which date back to 456 AD, but Visigoth markings on its top mean that it probably started life as a pagan altar dating from the early 400s.

The Basilica of Sainte Mary Magdeleine - Vézelay (09:16)

The imposing Roman Basilica of Ste-Madeleine, built with the help of donations from the pilgrims visiting the relics during the 12th and 13th centuries, is perched high above the “eternal hill”. Its abbey suffered a decline, not least during the Religious Wars of the 16th century when it was sacked by the Huguenots in 1569.

By the time of the French Revolution, the building was in danger of collapsing due to neglect, and, in 1834 the inspector of historical monuments again warned of the risk if nothing was done to save it. On his recommendation, Eugene Violelet-le-Duc was appointed to supervise the massive – and successful – restoration of the abbey, undertaken in various stages between 1840 – 1861, during which various weathered and vandalised sculptures were replaced. The flying buttresses which support the nave are another of Viollet-le-Duc’s additions to the design. The interior, with its immense Christ in Glory portal, is today seen as one of the greatest Romanesque works of art in the West.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart - Paray-le-Monial (16:50)

Built from the 12th century, on the site of a 10th-century monastery founded by Count Lambert of Chalon, the Romanesque Basilica of Paray-le-Monial was designed as a small-scale version of the Abbey of Cluny III. It was completed in the 14th century, although some sections were added in the 18th century and renovated in the 19th century.

The Cathedral of Our Lady - Strasbourg (18:43)

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is an outstanding masterpiece of Gothic art. The first stone was laid in 1015 and the spire was completed in 1439. Up until the 19th century, the cathedral was the highest building in the whole of the Christian world and is still the highest medieval building in Europe.

The Astronomical Clock is a result of the combined work of artists, mathematicians and technicians. The current mechanism dates from 1842. The main attraction of the clock is its animated figures which come out to delight the public every day at half past noon.

The Chapel of The Trinity - Fontainebleau (32:00)

The Chapel of the Trinity was built originally as a convent by Louis IX in the 13th century and was used by the Order of the Trinitaires (who accompanied him on Crusade). Then, in around 1528 Francis I demolished the old monastery and built the chapel we see today, which was later remodelled in the Renaissance style under the reign of Henry IV.

The chapel is noted for its early use of stucco, putti and ornate frescoes and was one of the first Renaissance churches (chapels) in France. It is still a place of worship and is occasionally used by the President of France on state or official visits and is also a concert venue – with world renowned musicians holding small-scale concerts throughout the summer. The Order of the Trinity are still associated with the chapel, today.

Louis XIII was baptised in the chapel in 1601, the chapel was the setting for the wedding of Louis XV and the Polish Princess Marie Leszczynska in 1725. Napoleon III was baptised there in 1810, and Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orleans (the son of King Louis-Philippe, the last king of France) was married there to Helene de Mecklembourg Schwerin in 1837.

The Church of Saint Stephen - Briare (36:05)

In the centre of the town you can find the interesting Romanesque-Byzantine church dedicated to Saint Stephen, built at the end of the 19th century. The church is particularly remarkable due to its beautiful decorations both inside and outside the building which were provided by the Émaux de Briare. It was added to the list of historic monuments in 1987.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Coeur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Coeur (French: Basilique du Sacré-Coeur, pronounced [sakʁe kœʁ]), is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark and the second most visited monument in Paris, [1] the basilica stands at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Coeur Basilica is above all a religious (Catholic) building, shown by its perpetual adoration of the Holy Eucharist since 1885, and is also seen as a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and for the socialist Paris Commune of 1871 [2] crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular devotion since the visions of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in Paray-le-Monial. The basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was completed in 1914. The basilica was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

Places to see in ( Beaune - France )

Places to see in ( Beaune - France )

Beaune is a walled town at the center of the Burgundy winemaking region in France. Surrounded by the Côte d'Or vineyards, the cobbled town is renowned for an annual wine auction held at the Hôtel-Dieu (Hospices de Beaune). Recognized by its colorful, geometric-patterned tile roof, this 15th-century former hospital is now the Hôtel-Dieu Museum, showcasing works like The Last Judgement altarpiece by Van der Weyden.

Beaune (pronounced similarly to 'bone'), 44km south of Dijon, is the unofficial capital of the Côte d'Or. This thriving town's raison d'être and the source of its joie de vivre is wine: making it, tasting it, selling it, but most of all, drinking it. Consequently Beaune is one of the best places in all of France for wine tasting. The jewel of Beaune's old city is the magnificent Hôtel-Dieu, France's most splendiferous medieval charity hospital.

Beaune is one of the key wine centers in France, and the center of Burgundy wine production and business. The annual wine auction of the Hospices de Beaune is the primary wine auction in France. (The hospice structure, in the town center, being one of the best preserved renaissance buildings in Europe.)

The town is surrounded by some of the world's most famous wine villages, while the facilities and cellars of many producers, large and small, are situated in the historic center of Beaune itself, as they have been since Roman times. With a rich historical and architectural heritage, Beaune is considered the Capital of Burgundy wines. It is an ancient and historic town on a plain by the hills of the Côte d'Or, with features remaining from the pre-Roman and Roman eras, through the medieval and renaissance periods.

Beaune is a walled city, with about half of the battlements, ramparts, and the moat, having survived in good condition. The central old town or vieille ville is extensive. Historically Beaune is intimately connected with the Dukes of Burgundy. Landmarks in Beaune include the old market (les Halles), the 15th-century Hospices, the Beffroi (clock tower), and the collegiate church of Notre Dame. Beaune is the main center for the Burgundian tile polychrome renaissance roofing style of the region.

The name Beaune derives from the Latinised Gaulish word Belena, which was the name of a spring around which the settlement was established. That name in turn is derived from Belen or Belenos, a god of fast-flowing water. A Roman fort was built there in the first century A.D. and it was already a prosperous wine-growing region in the 13th century.

Although Beaune is not primarily a tourist town but one centred on the wine industry, it nevertheless attracts a large amount of tourism. About five traditional smaller hotels are located within the city walls with around five chain hotels on the outskirts. Beaune is one of a number of towns in Europe asserting a key role in the invention of film; a number of murals and other tourist attractions reflect this. Technically Beaune is a commune in eastern France, a sub-prefecture of department 21, the Côte-d'Or department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.

( Beaune - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Beaune . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Beaune - France
