10 Best place to visit in Paraty Brazil

PARATY, BRAZIL. Best Place To Visit near Rio De Janeiro. Travel Destinations Drone Footage 8k.

Paraty is a coastal historic town in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was first settled by the Portuguese in 1667. Its old churches, cobbled streets and nearby forests, waterfalls, islands and emerald-green sea attract lots of tourists interested in mixing cultural tourism and more natural settings. It is one of the best cities to visit close to Rio De Janeiro and it is definitely one of the best travel destinations in Brazil.

Paraty grew in the 18th century as a strategically important port for exporting the gold mined in Minas Gerais. When shipments in nearby Rio began to attract the attention and ambition of pirates and privateers from rival European powers, the Portuguese began using Paraty as their safe port for getting their gold to Lisbon. Together with Ouro Preto, the town was part of the Royal Road (Caminho Real or Caminho do Ouro, Gold Road), a route used to export gold in colonial times. It was also an obligatory sleep-over stop for travelers between Rio and São Paulo until the late 1800s, when the inner road was opened. This caused Paraty to be forgotten, stalled in time, away from progress and disfiguration and helped it preserve its old city as it was in the past. In the 1970s, it was rediscovered as a popular tourist destination.

The historic town is compact and can be covered on foot; cars, save for taxis picking up or dropping passengers, are not allowed into the historic city center. The rough boulders of the old city streets would quickly destroy the shocks of most cars anyway.

Things to do in Paraty:

The historic center - cobbled streets, old buildings, churches etc.
Beaches
Islands - Ilha dos Meros has the best diving conditions
Waterfalls - Pedra Branca and Andorinhas
Puppet theatre - 2 weekly presentations of a famous puppet group
Casa da Cultura - a cultural center
Forte Defensor Perpétuo - Perpetual Defender fortress, a 18th-century stronghold built with British cannons to defend the gold against British privateers

City Description:
Paraty is a small town backed by mountains on Brazil's Costa Verde, between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Its Portuguese colonial center has cobbled streets and 17th- and 18th-century buildings dating to its time as a port, during the Brazilian Gold Rush. Among its architectural landmarks is the waterfront Capela de Santa Rita, a whitewashed church built in 1722.From the nearby pier, boat excursions head into Paraty’s bay for snorkeling, diving and island exploration. Lining the coast and on some of the islands are dozens of beaches popular for swimming, sunbathing and surfing. Hikes in the mountainous Serra da Bocaina National Park take in rainforest, waterfalls and the Caminho do Ouro, the historic gold trail. Back in town, neoclassical Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Church overlooks a leafy square. In the adjoining Pontal neighborhood, the Forte Defensor Perpétuo, a hilltop citadel dating to the 1700s, features old cannons and panoramic views.

Weather and Events:
Beach season hits its peak Dec–Feb, at the height of the hot, rainy summer. Winter (May–Aug) is a little more cool and dry. Carnaval (dates vary, Feb/Mar) and the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi (dates vary, May/Jun) are both major events. FLIP (Jul) is one of South America's leading international literary festivals, with lively, child-focused Flipinha running alongside it.

SHOCKING Top Place to Visit in Brazil ???????? (Paraty)

Paraty, Brazil is by far one of the most beautiful places to visit in Brazil and is in fact one of the best preserved colonial cities in South America.

This is absolutely one of the top places to visit in Brazil. With the beautiful alleyways covered in white buildings with colorful doors, delicious food, vibrant people, churches everywhere. Just a short 4.5 hours away from both Sao Paolo and Rio de Janerio, Brazil, you will find this incredible colonial town.

And, there are so many things to do outside of just walking thru the city, which is really why it is a top place to visit. With over 60 islands and 200 white sand beaches, you’ll find activities to do all day every day and we so badly wished we could have stayed longer.

Make sure to add this to your bucketlist while traveling to Brazil, and if you are going to either Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo, you absolutely need to make this stop.

How to Travel in Brazil ???????? | Rio de Janeiro to Paraty (costa verde bus)

Come with us as we learn how to travel in Brazil. In today’s Brazil vlog, we are taking a bus from Rio de Janeiro to Paraty, Brazil and bringing you along with us on our travel in brazil.

There are really only 3 ways to get to Paraty, Brazil from Rio, and that is by bus, private car, or semi-minibus. We chose the least expensive option and are traveling there on a 4 hour and 40 minute bus on a bus line called Costa Verde bus. It cost us about $21 USD/person to take this journey, but it was so seamless and we can’t even begin to describe how beautiful the journey was.

We really think that even if you have the opportunity to go from place to place by plane, if you have the time, take the bus because Brazil is just unbelievably beautiful.

Although you can buy tickets directly from the Costa Verde website, we were having some issues and ended up booking our bus tickets thru BusBud, which we had used in the past. Although a third party is always little more expensive, it was the easiest option for us.

Paraty Brazil

Paraty is an enchanting small town which is backed by mountains on Brazil’s Costa Verde, located between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Paraty Brazil was a famous gold port at one time and now it has become a very popular tourist attraction. Artists and photographers love to visit this place because of the 17th and 18th century buildings, cobbled streets and its Portuguese colonial center. Paraty is a very well-preserved town with colorful colonial houses, private beaches and many waterfalls in the surroundings. The Town offers great options of fine dining, excellent accommodation with superb views of green mountains and Atlantic forest in the background. The rich history of the town is dearly maintained by the residents because of the importance of tourism for their economy. In short, this place is to relax, take your time, enjoy the history and the beautiful nature together. There is no need to rush. It is a suggestion to plan your stay for 3 to 4 days minimum.

Hotel in Paraty Brazil

We chose a guest house called “Posauda Don Juan” to stay in Paraty through an online hotel booking website. The reasons for choosing were the reviews, ratings, facilities, convenience, location and breakfast. This place has great views of the mountains and a nice outdoor pool. The place has wifi, free parking, rooms for families, a nice bar and great staff. The hosts try their best to make you feel at home. The rooms are very nice and tidy and clean. Pool is very clean and there are always chairs for sunbathing. There breakfast is one of the best in town. The guest house has easy access to all the attractions of the town, and you can book your tours from the tour desk as well.

History of Paraty Brazil

The history of Paraty (which means river for fish in local language) is enriched with the Portuguese colonization. The village of Paraty was founded in 1597. It was populated by Guaianas Indians before Portuguese colonists established it as a town in 1667. The colonist changed the fishing village to a gold port which became a crucial stop for the boats on the way between the mining regions of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. Soon the town also started getting famous because of the production of sugar and alcoholic beverages. In 19th century when slavery got abolished and a new railroad was built between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, the importance of Paraty was lost. The population started to decrease and most of the works were closed and people shifted from here.

Paraty stayed away from modern development for many years and in 20 century when a new road was built, Paraty quickly attracted the tourists from all around the world because of its preserved history.
