In Occitanie region, located 10km south of Montpellier, has preserved its soul as a fishing village. Its beaches are every year the delight of holidaymakers. Its small fishing port, welcoming and friendly streets, make it a favourite place for families in search of simplicity and authenticity. Endowed with beautiful architectural pieces, surrounded by an exceptional lagoon heritage to discover on foot, by bike or by kayak, the city of Palavas-les-Flots conceals much more riches than we imagine...
In the past, the fishermen lived in the small houses on the left bank of the canal which connects the Lez to the sea. Even today, the place still retains this atmosphere typical of maritime villages. Every morning, when the boats return, residents of Palavas, Montpellier and tourists can find the atmosphere of the small villages of yesteryear on the quays and buy fresh fish straight from the traps. On the right bank, the pretty bourgeois houses with decorated pediments, backing onto charming little gardens, such as the Villa Bianca, tell of the good old days when wealthy families came to taste the joys of sea bathing.
The Lighthouse of the Mediterranean:
Far from being outdated, the city has been able to reconcile authenticity and modernity. The Pare de la Méditerranée, an old water tower 45m high completely restored in 2000, is the symbol. The top two floors of the tower host a promenade bridge with bar allowing a 360 ° view as well as a rotating panoramic restaurant allowing lunch or dinner to the rhythm of a magnificent flight over the entire region from the sea to the hinterland and its mountains, passing through the ponds.

Palavas Les Flots is a town that from the ground seems as ordinary as others in the region, but when you see it from above, you can see really how small of a sliver of land it has been built on
The town that sits in between Sète and La Gande Motte is the ideal beach getaway destination for the people of Montpellier. Located only 10 minute drive from south Montpellier, the town is well set up with restaurants and shops to accommodate day trippers.
The village connects also by bike and walking paths to neighboring cities and towns like Carnon,Le Grau du Roi,La Grande Motte, Frontignan, Sète and Montpellier.
A very interesting fishing port that is popular for fisherman lining the banks of the canal in town and selling their fresh daily catch. It’s a shame that they don’t yell like they did back in the day but it is an interesting sea side industry to observe.
