La Isla Saona es una de las más grandes de la República Dominicana que se encuentra ubicada frente a las costas de la provincia La Altagracia. Políticamente pertenece a la provincia La Romana. Es parte del parque nacional Cotubanamá (Antiguo parque nacional Del Este). La isla también es de gran atractivo turístico por sus hermosas playas y bellezas naturales.
La isla cuenta con dos asentamientos humanos permanentes, los poblados de Mano Juan y Catuano. Mano Juan es un pueblo de pescadores con casas de madera y la «playa Catuano», la cual tiene un destacamento de la marina de guerra.2

Los Estados Unidos es el país que la mayoría de la diáspora ha escogido en convertirlo en su patria, relegando a El Salvador, su patria de origen. Es el país que desde hace casi un siglo ha sido de última esperanza para los salvadoreños, que ha otorgado facilidades para que los integrantes de la diáspora se conviertan en ciudadanos prósperos dentro de un Estado de Derecho y poder contribuir a que sus familiares salgan de la pobreza.
A partir de 1980 la diáspora salvadoreña ha desempeñado un papel importante en la subvención económica del país. En la actualidad la diáspora contribuye más de 6,000 millones de dólares anuales, lo cual representa cerca del 25% del Producto Interno Bruto (PIB). La diáspora ha sacado a flote la economía salvadoreña durante la pandemia y contribuido a su leve recuperación actual. En los últimos años la diáspora ha jugado un papel importante en la lucha por un El Salvador mejor. Durante la guerra civil fueron artífices de un movimiento por la paz y justicia que logró influir sobre la población de los EE.UU. y los centros de poder desde el político hasta el artístico y religioso.
