Join us on our trip to France where we begin our exploration of the south eastern region by entering the French Alps!
In Episode 17 of our Eurotrip 2020 series, we travel to the cities of Lyon and Annecy where we will be spending the next 5 days exploring the French Alps!
Lyon is the second largest urban area in all of France! We really enjoyed the lovely architecture, especially the beautiful Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, a UNESCO structure located up on a hilltop with stunning views of the city of Lyon.
The town of Annecy is definitely a highlight in this region! The city is located right beside Lake Annecy and nestled by the French Alps. The city is also nicknamed “Pearl of the French Alps” and we can definitely see why! Being located only about 35 kilometers south of Geneva, it has a lot of similarities to Switzerland: mountains and beautiful turquoise water.

We are Oskar & Dan, two boys from Sweden who decided to change the course of our lives, drop out of university and live life full-time. Switzerland was country #69/197????
We began our trip in Zürich and from there went to Liechtenstein via Sargans. We then continued to St. Moritz to catch the Glacier Express to Zermatt. After hiking by the Matterhorn, we continued northward to Interlaken, Thun, and Bern, visiting the beautiful Jungfrau region and the villages of Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Mürren. We got the chance to fly in a tiny airplane with a stranger over the alps and see the iconic Jungfraujoch from the sky! We then finished our trip in the gorgeous city of Lucerne, a perfect bookend to a beautiful trip????????

???????? I The town was originally named Saint-Oyand after Saint Eugendus. However, when St. Claudius had, in 690, resigned his Diocese of Besançon and had died, in 696, as twelfth abbot, the number of pilgrims who visited his grave was so great that, since the 13th century, the name Saint-Claude came more and more into use and has today superseded the other.[3] Was the world capital of wooden smoking pipes crafted by hand from the mid 19th century all the way to the mid 20th century. During WWII the town came under German occupation, yet still remained a haven for Jews escaping to Switzerland due to its close proximity to it (5 miles away from town). As a punishment for the locales consistently assisting and harboring the fleeing Jews, the Nazis executed all the towns males of service age in the town center. There is a memorial plaque in the city square commemorating the event. Today there are several farms and ranches surrounding the town that produce many world famous brands of dairy (Comte cheese), beef (Charolaise), and poultry (Bresse Gauloise).
