10 Top Tourist Attractions in Brazil

The top tourist attractions in Brazil:

10_ Ouro Preto: One of Brazil's best-preserved colonial towns, Ouro Preto, meaning black gold, was founded at the end of the 17th century. It quickly became the epicenter of a new gold rush in the state of Minas Gerais. The city contains well preserved Portuguese colonial architecture, while modern buildings must adhere to historical standards maintained by the city. 18th- and 19th-century churches decorated with gold and the sculptured works of Aleijadinho make Ouro Preto one of the most popular tourist attractions in Brazil.

9_ Teatro Amazonas: or Amazon Theatre is an opera house located in Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. It was built during the heyday of rubber trade using materials from all over the world, with furniture from Paris, marble from Italy, and steel from England. On the outside of the building, the dome was covered with 36,000 decorated ceramic tiles painted in the colors of the Brazilian national flag.

8_ Fernando de Noronha: is a beautiful archipelago with pristine beaches, landscapes and wildlife, situated 354 km (220 miles) off the northeastern coast in Brazil. The archipelago was discovered by Amerigo Vespucci in 1503 and temporarily occupied by the Dutch and French before Portugal established dominion in 1737. Today only the largest of the 21 islands is inhabited with a population of about 3,500. The islands are a Mecca for divers and snorkelers with warm waters year-round and very good visibility even at depths of 50 meters.

7_ Historic Center of Olinda: Another well preserved colonial city, Olinda is located on the Brazil's northeastern coast, just north of Recife. Olinda features a number of major touristic attractions, such as a historic downtown area, churches, and the famous Carnival of Olinda. Many bars, restaurants, artist and craftspeople studios add charm to the old-town setting.

6_ Salvador Beaches: is the capital of the state of Bahia, with an attractive colonial town, a vibrant musical scene and loads of exceptional beaches all around. The beaches range from calm inlets, ideal for swimming, diving and sailing, as well as open sea inlets with strong waves, popular with surfers. There are also beaches surrounded by reefs, forming natural pools of stone, ideal for children.

5_ Pantanal: is the world's largest wetland, lying mostly in Western Brazil but extending into Bolivia and Paraguay as well. Famous for its wildlife, it is one of Brazil's major tourist attractions. Unlike the Amazon rainforest, in the Pantanal you are virtually guaranteed to actually see the wildlife. Capybara and the Yacare Caiman are present in the millions. The Pantanal is also home to one of the largest Jaguar populations in the Americas.

4_ Rio Carnival: There are carnival celebrations in virtually every corner of Brazil, the best-known ones taking place in Recife together with the neighboring Olinda and Salvador. But the biggest and most famous carnival is undoubtedly the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. The Rio Carnival attracts two million people per day on the streets and almost half a million foreigners during its 4 day celebration. The Carnival is all over the place, in the streets and squares, bars, clubs and all other venues in Rio, concluding in the spectacular Rio Samba Parade at the Sambadrome.

3_ Amazon River: At approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles) the Amazon River is the second longest river in the world, just slightly shorter than the Nile, and the largest river by volume. The Amazon has over 3,000 recognized species of fish and new species are still being discovered. The Amazon Basin is covered by half of the planet's remaining rainforests. Although a tenth of the world's estimated 10 million living species live in the Amazon rainforest, jungle tours are more about the boating upriver into the damp, buzzing, oppressive ambience than actually spotting animals.

2_ Iguazu Falls: One of the great natural wonders of the world, Iguaçu Falls is situated on the border between Brazil and Argentina. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along the Iguazu River. The most impressive of them all is the Devil's Throat a U-shaped with a height of 82 meter (269 ft). The falls can be reached from the cities Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and Puerto Iguazú in Argentina, as well as from Ciudad del Este in Paraguay. On the Brazilian side there is a long walkway along the canyon with an extension to the lower base of the Devil's Throat.

1_ Christ the Redeemer: Christ the Redeemer is the famous statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro. Located at the peak of the 700 meters (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain, it provides a sweeping panorama from the interior of Guanabara bay to the north, to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas to the south. The Christ the Redeemer statue stands 39.6 meters (130 ft) tall, including its 9.5 meters (31 ft) pedestal and has become an icon of Rio and Brazil.

Iconic Places in 4k at Ouro Preto Historical Downtown- See Brazilian Architecture

In this video, We visited four iconic places at Ouro Preto Historical Center:
São Francisco de Assis Church
Mercês de Baixo Church
Antônio Dias Church
Marília de Dirceu Bridge

The São Francisco de Assis Church is a Catholic church in the city of Ouro Preto, Brazil, built in Baroque style, with Rococo decorative elements.

It is one of the most significant monuments of colonial art, one of the best known Brazilian churches of that period and one of the most celebrated creations of the master Aleijadinho, who elaborated the basic design of the facade and decoration in reliefs and gilded woodcarving, personally making several of its elements , although other artists have also collaborated.

The Nossa Senhora das Mercês and Perdões Church of Ouro Preto, also known as the Mercês de Baixo Church, was built between 1740 and 1772. It underwent renovation in the mid-20th century.

In 1740, the Chapel of Senhor Bom Jesus dos Perdões already existed on the site.

In addition to the main altar, the church represents the choir, four side altars and two carved wooden pulpits.

The Antônio Dias Church, landmark of the birth of Villa Rica, is one of the most important of Ouro Preto, with typical architecture inside the first half of the eighteenth century and the facade changed in the nineteenth century. Design and construction of Manoel Francisco Lisboa, the father of Antonio Francisco Lisboa, Aleijadinho, both buried there. Highlight for the eight side altars. In front of the first altar, on the right, Aleijadinho is buried. It also houses the Aleijadinho Museum, (Sacristia Room and Crypt Room).

Recorded in 4K with GoPro Hero 8 Black.

Ouro Preto, Mariana, Mina da Passagem - Minas Gerais, Brazil | travel guide

Ouro Preto and Mariana are cities in the Minas Gerais state in Brazil, near to which were big discoveries of gold. In both cities are located numerous churches with stunning golden decorations. In the mines around those cities, so much gold was mined, that in the 18th century they were one of the biggest gold producers to Portuguese kingdom. Nowadays this past wealth is reminded by rich decorations inside numerous churches of Ouro Preto and Mariana and by the Mina da Passagem, which is the biggest gold mine opened for tourists in the world. Ouro Preto with its pleasant atmosphere is a right city to learn something more about Brazilian history and to relax over a local meal or cachaca.

I tried all kinds of different food in Minas Gerais on my road trip through Brazil! In this video, we visit mostly colonial towns such as Tiradentes, Ouro Preto, and a mine close to Mariana. I'm an English teacher online, and I visited one of my students in this video, who helped me discover more of Minas.

PLACES TO VISIT IN MINAS GERAIS:

- TIRADENTES:
Tiradentes is along the Royal Highway (Estrada Real) in Minas Gerais, and it’s an old colonial town. It’s named after a Brazilian patriotic hero by the same name. His real name was Joaquim Jose da Silva Xavier and he led the rebellion against the Portuguese government for a free Brazil. He was called Tiradentes, which means tooth puller, because he was a dentist.

Tiradentes Day is a national holiday in Brazil celebrated on April 21, the same day Tiradentes was executed. It recognizes the importance of Brazilian independence throughout the country and honors Tiradentes as a patriot.

This location is a popular getaway for Brazilian tourists. The first name of the city was Vila de São José do Rio, but after Brazil became a republic in 1889, it was renamed.

The main draw of the city is to see the preserved and quaint Portuguese colonial architecture, but the food is also really important. The city is surrounded by mountains so there are a lot of nature activities available. There are well preserved churches (Church of Saint Anthony, São Francisco de Paula), and museums to learn about Brazilian colonialism.

-OURO PRETO:
Ouro Preto is strikingly picturesque and some say the most beautiful place in Brazil. It's much bigger than other colonial towns and was specifically a mining town for gold to bring back to Portugal. You can visit the churches and see a lot of gold there, to this day.

There are a lot of churches and museums, as well as mines you can go into and see. It’s one of Brazil’s biggest tourist attractions, but it’s also a great city to live in with hospitable people. It's a great place to learn about Brazilian history, or just relax in the mountains with an amazing vibe.

Of course, we can't forget about the food either. Like all of Minas, this is a major draw.

- MARIANA:
We didn't actually visit Mariana in the video, but we did visit Mina da Passagem close by. This is one of the largest mines you can visit in the entire world. The cart goes down into an industrial mine and you can see different minerals there. Today it's also a very popular place for professional cave divers. The tour is mostly in Portuguese but it's worth it.

- BELO HORIZONTE:
Belo Horizonte is one of the best places in Brazil to eat, but it's even better to drink a beer. The main draw of the city is craft beer and bars. Because it doesn't have a beach, the locals go to the streets for the amazing nightlife. Some of the best neighborhoods are Lourdes, Funcionarios, and Savassi.

EXTRA:
It's also highly recommended to visit the colonial city of Diamantina north of Belo Horizonte. It's also recommended to visit small towns in Minas Gerais outside of the big cities, where you'll find some of the best food. This is where people say the real magic of Minas Gerais is.

BRAZILIAN FOOD IN THE VIDEO:

Brigadeiro Cake with Doce de Leite
Pão de Queijo (cheese bread)
Coxinha de Rabada (oxtail)
Tutu a Mineira (with torrsemo, fried pork belly)

Ouro Preto (Brasil)
