Hiking, game watching, breathing in history or just enjoying the peaceful scenery – there is something on offer for each of our guests. Saying good-bye is often accompanied by “We should have booked another night.”
Waterberg (Afrikaans: water mountain) is a massive table mountain east of Otjiwarongo in the northern reaches of central Namibia. It is about 50 km long, up to 16 km wide and rises from the plains of the Omaheke, as this part of the Kalahari is known, to a height of up to 200 metres. This natural barrier often intercepts clouds, causing them to release their moisture.
The mountain’s upper layer consists of red sandstone which is porous and absorbs rainwater like a sponge. The base, on the other hand, is impermeable rock with a slight gradient from west to east. On the south-eastern slope water therefore escapes along this layer in the form of several springs - even during the dry season from May until September. Hence the mountain’s very apt name. One of the springs bubbles at the end of the Waterberg Wilderness valley and provides delicious drinking water. It also feeds the swimming and plunge pools for the guests and the watering places for the game.
Waterberg is famous for the nature reserve established on the plateau in 1972. Waterberg Plateau Park is the home of game such as buffalo, white and black rhino, giraffe as well as eland, roan and sable antelope, and it borders directly on Waterberg Wilderness.
At Waterberg Wilderness you can explore the wonderful world of the Waterberg up and close on a guided plateau hike or on your own on well-demarcated hiking trails.

Waterberg Plateau National Park:
The buildings of Waterberg Wilderness Lodge shelter in a long valley in the midst of the Waterberg mountain range. Built from red Waterberg sandstone they nestle under enormous old trees.
Waterberg Wilderness is a private nature reserve at the Waterberg, with access to the plateau and an open border to the Waterberg Plateau Park. It is home to a unique flora, more than 200 bird species and game species such as white rhino, giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra, springbuck, oryx and red hartebeest.
The atmosphere in the mature, well-kept garden with its two pavilions, many cool and shady places and an immured spring water basin lined by giant bamboo is idyllic.

MOUNT ETJO SAFARI LODGE OTJIWARONGO AREA CENTRAL NAMIBIA SOUTHERN AFRICA
Mount Etjo Safari Lodge is one of the oldest and well-known accommodation establishments in Namibia, located in the center of the country, in dense African savanna. Wildlife includes antelopes and hippos.

Mount Etjo Lodge:
Mount Etjo Safari Lodge is located within the Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary, which was founded by famous conservationist Jan Oelofse during the early seventies. The lodge is situated approximately 180 km north of Windhoek in one of the most scenic parts of Namibia, where guests can come into close contact with nature itself. Hundreds of species of birds and mammals can be sighted here, including elephant, black and white rhino, hippo, giraffe and numerous antelopes ranging from the majestic Kudu to the diminutive Damaraland Dik-Dik. Predators, such as lion, leopard and cheetah also roam this area. Game viewing is conducted from open safari vehicles and on foot, accompanied by experienced guides.
Etjo means a place of refuge. The guest is accommodated in natural surroundings, having the option to stay in our Rhino Lodge, which is more for the visitor who likes peace and quietness of nature or our Main Lodge.
Rooms are furnished comfortable, with en-suite toilet and bath facilities and a number of rooms in Main Lodge are equipped with their own private Jacuzzis. Main Lodge with a swimming pool and garden area overlooks a waterhole, where many animals, including hippo can be observed.
Accessed by road or air, share in Namibia's natural beauty at Mount Etjo.
Accommodation options at the Main Lodge include a private apartment furnished with king-size bed, en-suite bathroom with round bathtub, private dining room and lounge as well as a private garden with whirlpool. Other rooms in the Main Lodge are furnished with two double beds or a king size bed and have en-suite shower and toilet facilities.
If you prefer the peace and quiet of nature, then a good option would be to stay at Rhino Lodge, situated in the heart of the Mount Etjo Game Sanctuary. Rhino Lodge has eight wooden cottages, comfortably furnished with wall-to-wall carpets, two beds and an en-suite toilet and shower facilities.
There is also a camp site overlooking the waterhole, each site with its own shower and toilet facility, as well as its own lapa.
The Game Drives provide a unique opportunity to observe, encounter and admire the great variety of species that roam the Okonjati Game Reserve. Nowhere else in Namibia will you see such a diversity of animals, ranging from birds to the rare Roan and Sable Antelope, Elephants, White and Black Rhino, Giraffes, Zebras and many many more.
Camp Dinosaur: individual camping sites, each with a private toilet and shower facility, hot and cold running water, 220V full-time electricity with outside connections for fridges and other appliances, as well as a private lapa with barbecue facilities.
