I am travelling from Almaty to Shymkent by train. Its long journey train of 12 hours i spent travelling. Did entire review of Kazakhstan trains in this video.
You can buy ticket for kazakhstan trains online by visiting tickets.kz or by going to train stations. Remember there are 2 train stations in Almaty, train station 1 and train station 2. You can buy any one of them but your train goes from specific station.
Also i have given my hostel tour in this video of Shymkent. and hostel prices are also shared in this video.
Main reason of gonig to Shymkent is because its located on border of Kazakhstan and i will cross lasnd border to Uzbekistan via Shymkent.
