✅ Welcome to A.A. Augustine Media:
A. A. Augustine's Media Co. is, was and always will be a small, fiercely independent, social media free media company that was initially, only created to produced public and commercial kids television shows along with it's peripheral products including the very popular book, DVD and handmade doll series featuring Sequoia The Littlest Bigfoot.
But after spending15 years traveling through hundreds of small towns in southern New England while I was recording and producing bands for my indie record label and then, almost 5 years later, through literally, all of Northern California selling regional Mom & Pop sponsorships for the kids' TV shows as well as opening up new retail accounts for our products, it became all too clear to me just how much I cared about small towns and small-town America.

SMALL TOWN NY:
Fresh off the hot-heels of the pandemic and my initial PBS travel show, Discovering WNY, Small Town NY is my second PBS series that finds me exploring small towns throughout the entire state.
And while you'll still find the more popular destinations on the show, I'll mostly be digg'n deep and Discovering the lesser-known and off-the-beaten-path small towns that I believe, truly deserve a visit or two.

Here on my YouTube channel you'll also be able to see all the episodes from my 4 older TV shows:

DISCOVERING WNY:
The first version of the show was an interstitial (between the shows) PBS series that primarily featured small WNY towns, while the older show was a half-hour, small business profile series featuring local Mom & Pop Shops on 4 WNY commercial stations.

SUPER KIDS SHOW:
These are my three retro-style, 1950s-1970s influenced shows kids TV series that were eventually combined into one awesome show called The Kids Super Show that continued until 2017 when I began producing regional travel shows.

Olean Center Mall: A Ghost Town

The Olean Center Mall in Olean, New York, is facing challenges as it navigates through changing consumer preferences and economic shifts. The mall is now grappling with declining foot traffic, vacant storefronts, and a struggle to adapt to the evolving retail landscape. It has changed and become a ghost town.

With the rise of e-commerce and shifting consumer habits, traditional malls like Olean Center are in need of change. Many beloved stores have closed their doors, leaving behind empty spaces and a sense of uncertainty.

While the future of the Olean Center Mall may be in limbo, its legacy as a cherished third space for the community endures. As we explore the mall's current state, let's reflect on the memories made within these walls and envision a future where the mall once again thrives as a vibrant destination for generations to come.

New York's Southern Tier | Regions of New York State

The southern tier is an under-appreciated and deeply interesting region of New York state. Home to cities like Binghamton and Jamestown and such tourist destinations as the corning museum of glass and the national comedy center, the southern tier is well worth exploring. In this video, we look at the geography and history of this region, as well as some of the more famous tourist attractions of the southern tier.

Skip ahead to your city:

Special thanks to Michael Connolly for writing some of the script of this video, as well as Zach Libby, Patrick Egan, James Kearney, and Derek Baranski for accompanying me on a trip to the southern tier.

Olean, New York | Walking Tour

Let's take a walking tour of Olean, New York! This small town in Western New York has a very walkable downtown area on North Union Street. We'll start at the north end roundabout on North Union Street and walk south to see businesses and artistic Squirrels along the way. At the south end, we'll tuen around near the Old Library and Lincoln Park, and head back north on Union Street to make a complete round trip.

Cattaraugus County's major city, Olean, serves as the region's commercial, entertainment, and transportation hub. It is one of the major cities in Western New York's Southern Tier.  The city is situated in Cattaraugus County's southeast region.

In 1765, Europeans moved into the region for the first time, using the Indian name Ischua. The Allegheny River Valley divides the land's topography into two distinct regions. About 550 feet above the valley, the highest points are located. The Sullivan Expedition built the initial route to Olean during the American Revolution.

When the Town of Olean was first established in 1808, the entire Cattaraugus County was referred to as The Town of Olean.  The region remained lightly populated until Major Adam Hoops bought the property in 1804, giving it its current name. Hoops was a surveyor who had served in the Revolutionary War and had ties to Robert Morris. Hoops joined Morris in his involvement with the Holland Land Company, which was colonizing western New York.

The new settlement was known as Olean Point by the post office. The area was surveyed by 1808, and a map from that year displays the basic street layout and the majority of the current street names. On county maps from 1823, the name Olean—without the Point—is used for the city.

Olean received official recognition from the New York State Legislature in 1854. Through the 1920s and 1933, Olean gained a reputation as a significant station on routes for bootlegging during Prohibition. It was frequently frequented by well-known mobsters of the time and was situated on a backroad connecting Chicago and New York City. The most well-known gangster at the time, Al Capone of Chicago, paid a visit to Olean as part of his criminal activities.

The painted 4-foot-tall fiberglass squirrels that are scattered throughout Olean, according to the Woodland in the City organization, are one of the city's artistic initiatives. The Woodland in the City project is an art exhibition designed to support both the City's artistic community and the local businesses that are sponsors of the squirrels. There are currently 28 squirrels in the city. Today, Olean's population is currently around 15,000, down from its estimated 25,000 peak in the middle of the 1950s.

There are a few specific goals of Travel Towner:
1. To take fun POV (“Point-of-View”) videos of scenic drives, highways, and roadways so you can virtually travel anywhere you like; or look back at a time when you were younger.

2. Document a fun walking tour of a specific park, attraction, or point of interest so you can see what's it's like to really be there.

3. Showcase vintage footage from yesteryear to show today's viewers what is may have been like back in 19- something something! If you have any vintage footage of past attractions, parks, road trips or anything interesting from the USA? Contact me and let’s feature it here!

4. Just for Fun. These are videos that are funny or interesting in some way that I think everyone will enjoy!

Please give a thumbs up if you like taking a POV Road Trip or love POV driving.

Want to get in on the fun and make cool videos too? Here is everything I use to make it happen:

Another big part of the channel is to document a piece of Americana… at a certain point in time. Wouldn’t it be cool to go back to where you lived, 20 or 30 years ago, and take a ride through your hometown? As more roadway drives, walking tours, and vintage trips are added, it builds history so future viewers can go “back in time” and see what it was like, back then.

Roadtripping and traveling are uniquely American pastimes- and we should preserve it’s history- so future generations can appreciate the Freedom of the Road.

Please like the videos and subscribe to the channel. Leaving comments is a great way to tell ME what you’d like to see next.

A trip to Rock City Park, Olean NY

A friend and I took a trip to Rock City Park in Olean NY. Spent a couple of hours climbing through the rock formations there. After we left the park we drove to Wellsville, NY to have a Texas Hot and from there back to Andover NY.
I originally intended to ride my bike over and film but the weather forecast was rain. Sure glad I rode the truck over as it POURED when I got ready to leave.

Thanks Geoffrey for letting me use your music!
