Oguta Lake; The Tale of Two Rivers

Located in Oguta, Imo State, the Oguta lake is one that is embedded with its traditional belief

The two river flows side by side but never mixing. River OGBUIDE and URASHI are known to be male and female, basically husband and wife that had a quarrel, since then, they have flowed separately.

The green river is OGBUIDE and the Brown is URASHI
Nowadays, the two are deities; man and wife have become god and goddess.
There are two separate shrines where worshippers invoke and offer supplication to them; one on each side of the river.

The Amazing LIFESTYLE of the RIVER BENUE PEOPLE| PLACES TO VISIT IN NIGERIA shot on samsung s10 plus

I took a canoe trip across RIVER BENUE, with friends to explore the beautiful lifestyle of the people living at the famous Benue river. River Benue is one of the two major rivers in Nigeria, the people are predominantly fishermen and they depend on the water for everything. In this video we witness a very amazing scene of which encompases the dependence of the people on the river. Within a ten meter radius, there is a crowd, a young man is seen fishing, a woman is seen doing the dishes, another doing her laundry, in their middle, an aged man is seen brushing his teeth. A little girl is seen swimming another is taking a shit. THE PEOPLE HAVE A BELIEF THAT THE WATER IS SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION AND THAT THE TURBULENCE OF THE RIVER HAS CLEANING ABILITIES. I shot this video entirely on the samsung galaxy s10 plus and the DJI mavic mini. I had my camera nearby but using a phone was the only way to gain their trust and entry into their little circle to be able to document them.

I saw what flood did in Oguta; it was a nightmare

The aftermath of flooding in Oguta was just a nightmare to residents of some areas. Oguta is a town in Imo State that is popular as a tourist destination because of Oguta lake which is a wonderful sight to behold. But the flooding brought sadness to that town. What I saw was traumatic. The devastation was much.

The Clean River With A Sad History

The bridge of no return Ikot Abasi is a floating jetty built in 1795 by the europeans for the purpose of conveying slaves to the waiting ships. In this video I shared a slave story which I believe it started from this bridge.

A Tour of RIVER BENUE on a canoe cinematic TRAILER || PLACES TO VISIT IN NIGERIA

River Benue is one of the Two major rivers in Nigeria. The second being the Niger river. I and a few friends decided to take a tour in a canoe across river benue in Makurdi Benue state. Nigeria is indeed a beautiful place and i wished the canoe ride never ended. We passed ''wadata'' the area in makurdi predominantly inhabited by the jukum tribe. who are mainly fishermen. Then we went under the old bridge, which was constructed 89 years ago (1932).
The bridge was built to replace the Nigerian railway's ferry service that conveyed passengers across the Benue at Makurdi. The cost of the bridge was about £1,000,000, and it was constructed by Sir William Arrol & Co. At the time of its construction, it was one of the largest undertakings by the British in Africa and the longest bridge in Africa.

ORLU 2020 |ORLU HOME OF THE RICH|RICHEST VILLAGE IN IMO STATE|VLOGMAS 2020 #2

ORLU 2020 |ORLU HOME OF THE RICH|VLOGMAS 2020
brief history
Orlu (Igbo: Ọ̀lụ́)[1] is the second largest city after Owerri, in Southeast Nigeria's Imo State with an estimated population of 420,000. It has a long history and has played a critical role as the headquarters for the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) ran humanitarian relief agencies during the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War. The Nigerian headquarters of the British Cheshire Home is in the city.Orlu is a home for enterprise and industry which gives it the unofficial tag of the commercial capital of Imo state. Many successful Nigerian businessmen, industrialists and champions of industries hail from its eleven local government areas that make up what is widely called Orlu Senatorial Zone. They include Orsu, Isu, Njaba, Nwangele, Nkwerre, Ideato North, Ideato South, Oru East, Oru West, Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta. The city centres of the local government area are within the host towns of Amaifeke, Ihioma/Ebenese, Umuna, Umuowa, Umutanze, Okporo, Orlu-Gedegwum and Owerre-Ebeiri. When all of the LGAs in the zone are included Orlu's population is estimated to be approaching 3,000,000 inhabitants.

The permanent site for various industries, state and federal agencies like the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, the state owned Cardboard Industry in Owerri-Ebeiri, the newly built Imo State School of Nursing and Health Technology at Okporo and a host of small and medium size chemical and pharmaceutical companies, the multi purpose Imo International Market, which houses one of the three most influential pharmaceutical markets in West Africa, are based in Orlu. This is due to the high number of Orlulites in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Consequently, the Orlu Zonal Area has the highest concentration of indigenous pharmaceutical manufacturers and marketers in the whole of African continent.

The towns in Orlu urban have different cultural masquerade heritages through which they express their communal attributes, descents and heritages like Mmanwu, Ebuebu, Oghu, Okonko, Ekeleke and Okorosha etc. The Orlu community from which the city and entire zone derives its name from comprises 10 villages and is ruled by the Igwe of Orlu. The current Igwe is Eze Dr. Patrick Chinedu Acholonu.

Oguta Lake is a lean 'finger lake' formed by the damming of the lower Njaba River with alluvium. It is the largest natural lake in Imo State, Southeastern Nigeria; within the equatorial rainforest region of Niger Delta.

Tale of the Two Angry Rivers | Abandoned Treasures of Oguta Lake || BlessynKure

The famous Oguta Lake is located in Oguta town, Imo State, South Eastern Nigeria.
At 8.05 km length and 2.41 km width , it is the largest natural lake in Imo State and the entire South Eastern region.
The lake was one of the first territories the British used to advance into the Eastern region.

Tales from the locals have it that the two rivers Urashi and Ogbude that flow from Njaba through Aju and Awbana are male and female.
It is said that they were once married and after a quarrel ensued the greenish water Ogbude and the brownish water Urashi separated never to mix again.

Over the years, indigenes have adopted the worship of the two rivers as their god and goddess with shrines erected in honour of each on both sides of the banks.

Despite seeing thousands of tourists troop to behold these angry river yearly, its sad to see that this tourist attraction is now a treasure abandoned.
