Nebraska teen wins round of Iowa State Fair Milk Chug-a-Lug
Kody Whitmarsh of Bellevue, Neb., 15, won one of the rounds of the Milk Chug-a-Lug Contest on Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Iowa State Fair. His 50-year-old grandmother, Cindy Whitmarsh of Des Moines, also won in her round (also see that video on my channel).
Mount Ayr, Iowa - music on town square
I had just finished mapping the range of periodical cicadas in SW Iowa on Sunday, June 29, 2014, when I came across the deserted town square of Mount Ayr. Well...not quite deserted as there was hauntingly beautiful music echoing off the old buildings and restored Skelly Station. The town has speakers on the courthouse lawn and When You Asked Me for the Moon by Bella Ruse was playing. The lyric We are not who we used to be, anymore was playing as I contemplated a ghost sign.
