Alentejo, the perfect Portugal

Between Lisbon and the Algarve, lies the Alentejo, Portugal’s largest region. The name stands for “beyond the Tejo”, as it sits past the river Tagus, below Lisbon.
Alentejo is a region of vast fields dotted with olive groves, vines, and lonely cork trees. To the east, bordering with Spain, you’ll find hilltop villages with castles, and to the west, a beautiful coastline of quiet beaches.

ALENTEJO Portugal ROAD TRIP (Beja and Badoca Safari) | ???????? We slept in a former convent

We continue our Portugal road trip in Alentejo, with the medieval city of Beja, the capital of Lower Alentejo. The highlight of our stay was our hotel, a former convent with lovely grounds and a pool. The pool was very appreciated, as Beja is known as the hottest city in Portugal. When we finally managed to leave the pool, we visited the Badoca Safari Park, the Africa of Alentejo. We link them both below.
Have you visited the Alentejo region in Portugal? What was your highlight?

We started the Alentejo road trip in Evora, with lots of tasty food and Roman ruins that you should check out here:

Portugal STOP ???????? Vila Nova de Milfontes...Wow...

Hello guys in this beautiful day????

After my last episodes I missed coast, I missed ocean, I missed my friends seagulls and that's why I had a mission to find beautiful, calm coastal town. And you know what? I found Vila Nova de Milfontes ????????????

Vila Nova de Milfontes is a Portuguese town in the municipality of Odemira with an area of 75.88 km² and 5660 inhabitants. It is also located on Alentejo coast in Beja district.

Vila Nova de Milfontes is located on the north bank of the mouth of the Mira River . It is inserted in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.

Considered one of the best natural ports on the south coast of the country, the early occupation of this stretch of coast dates back to the Iron age.

The role of the location is as an ancient and important seaport, whose main objective would be the exchange and sale of minerals and other materials and food goods with other countries.

Just like other coastal towns in Portugal
between 16th and 18th century it was heavily attacked by pirates who robbed population and ships. Today all is good.

If you want to live here then real estate price average is 2 to 3k/m2.

So what to do in here? Let's see what ????????

In this episode:
Town, buildings, beer, food, cat and much more!

Thank you for your support and I'm always happy if you share your thoughts in comment section and of course if you are new to the channel - subscribe ????

Tchau!!!

Alentejo - Odemira-Beja

Pego das Pias - Odemira, Beja

???? A praia fluvial do Pego das Pias é uma obra de arte da ribeira do Torgal, no concelho de Odemira. Além do fresco da água tiramos partido da beleza provoca pela erosão da água que criou arcadas e espelhos de água num maciço rochoso.

Miradouro do Cabo Sardão - Odemira, Beja

A brisa diurna faz esquecer preocupações, correrias e más disposições.

Our BEST SURPRISE in PORTUGAL ???????? It is NOT in the Algarve

If we had to choose our best surprise destination in Portugal, we would definitely go for Alentejo's coast, the beautiful Costa Vicentina. The small village of Villa Nova de Milfontes is very popular with Portuguese families during the Summer months but receives relatively few foreign tourists. This contributes to a completely different vibe, more relaxed and authentic, compared to the resorts in the Algarve.

About some of the best Portuguese food we ate:

The main draw of Vila Nova de Milfontes are its great beaches and nature. Add to this some amazing Alentejo food and you can see why we fell in love with this corner of Portugal.

I attended Gaga teacher Alvin Collantes's Passion, Play, & Pleasure dance retreat at Monte da Orada in Southern Portugal. It was the second iteration of this retreat, and I took the time to try to capture the space in this walking tour video (sorry for the moments my finger blocked the camera and any loud noise -- it was a windy day!).

Monte da Orada is a spiritual, ecological events & yoga retreat centre nestled in the heart of a nature sanctuary in the nearly untouched woods of Odemira... In the video you'll see facilities like the biopool, sauna, restaurant, residences, and the irrigation canal. You can find upcoming retreats and more information on their website:

Being there was such a transformative and wonderful experience! The Passion, Play, & Pleasure retreat is for anyone who loves to move, regardless of their training or background. It's for the stargazer, the nature lover, the dancemaker, the passion player, the pleasure lover, and that hidden child in the depths of your heart, waiting to come out and play. Did not expect this to be Sines - Portugal????????

Good morning guys in this beautiful day! ????

Today we are in birthplace of my fellow explorer Vasco da Gama - we are in Sines. And if somebody do not know Vasco da Gama is the man who went to India between 1497 and 1499, becoming the first European to get to India by sea, expanding the Portuguese Empire, opening up world trade. And this is his city!

Also in this episode we almost got stuck in the mud, we went to Porto Covo and if you will stick to the end , I will show you the place where some mystical forces did not wanted me to go!????

About the Sines. It's a Portuguese city and municipality in the Setúbal district , Alentejo region.

Area of 203.30 km² and 14,200 inhabitants, subdivided into 2 parishes- Porto Covo and Sines.

The municipality borders to the north and east by the municipality of Santiago do Cacém , to the south by Odemira and to the west it has border with Atlantic Ocean.
From Lisbon it is about 160km - 2 hour drive, depending on which road you take. Toll is 10 euros.

Sines is not only beautiful city with white houses and castle, but also an industrial center with an oil refinery , petrochemical industries, polymer construction and metalworking. And while that may not be much interest to a regular tourist, technology fans can book tours in some of these massive complexes.

And interesting thing - I think it is because of this industrial thing:

The municipality of Sines has the highest GDP per capita among all municipalities in Portugal.

Sines also has huge port and today, more than half of all port traffic in Portugal passes through here , mainly containers.

Because of conditions and location Sines is also a popular beach spot and the main fishing harbor of Alentejo region.

And of course Castle - no city in Portugal without castle. Sines is no exeption. This castle was put up to defend the fleet and town against enemy navies and pirates. And was built in 15th century, but the hill was inhabited long before that and that's the reason - the building is quite compact, as the streets around it had long been there when it was built and it had to adapt to that shape.

Another parish of Sines is Porto Covo. Porto Côvo is to the south, with beautiful compact buildings, main street with restaurants and stunning coast line.

Just like with castle in every corner of Portugal -  surfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding, fishing, diving is the trademark of portuguese coastal cities - this place no exeption.
There are surf schools open all year round. And you can get your body wet splashing in the ocean.

So Sines is surprisingly unique city. To be honest I expected less, but I feel that - somebody smart and with brain sits behind the wheel in this municipality. Whoever he/she is- I want to say thank you for making this city to feel and be taken care of. ????

Real estate: Standart filters 2-3 beds, 1-2 baths, good condition, price average - 3000 euro per square meter, price is bit higher then I expected, but I think thats because there were not so many places for sale. But for this city I think price is reasonable.

So guys, thank you for support and enjoy Sines!????
