Places to see in ( Montelimar - France )
An unmissable destination for sweet-lovers thanks to its famous nougat, Montélimar is located between Valence and Avignon, in the middle of Provençale Drôme, the land of lavender. Peaceful and welcoming with its old pedestrian quarters and little town squares, Montélimar was conquered by the Romans before the birth of Christ. It has many treasures left over from its eventful past that are very appealing to tourists.
Its beautiful mansions are found in the historic centre: the Renaissance-style house of Diane de Poitiers, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries; the 17th-century Puy-Montbrun mansion; the 18th-century Chabrillan mansion. The Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross, located on the site of the first church thus named in the 12th century, has been transformed and renovated many times following the destruction caused by the Wars of Religion. Another sight to see is St. Martin's Gate, built from dimension stone in the 17th century and formerly part of the city's ramparts.
In the heights of the city, the Adhémars' Castle is a 12th-century medieval palace, Romanesque in style and surrounded by ramparts. Temporary exhibitions and shows take place there. You can visit the residential palace, keep and chapel. You can buy a pass for combined admission to the castle and the St. Martin Contemporary Art Museum. To entertain the young ones, head to the Museum of Miniatures, based in an old chapel in the city centre. Dedicated to the art of miniature-making, it has amongst other things a magnificent collection of dolls' houses.
Lastly, you can't visit Montélimar without stopping at one of its many nougat shops, to sample this unique treat made from almonds and honey. To step back in time to your childhood days, you can also stop by the Palace of Sweets and Nougat, a fun, educational and interactive space devoted to childhood and memories.
Montelimar is primarily famous for its nougat and if you are visiting Montelimar be sure to taste some. It is nothing like the chewy, plasticy stuff that passes for nougat in the UK but is really delicious. Wandering along the main street, the Rue Pierre Julien there are plenty of shops dedicated to the sale of nougat. Nougat first began to be made in the 17th century when the almond trees planted around Montelimar first started fruiting. Almonds and honey are key components of the delicious Montelimar nougat.
The basic nougat is made of sugar, honey and egg whites and to this almonds, pistachios and vanilla are added. Most of the nougat makers in the town will let you watch the nougat making process, usually in the morning when the day's batch is made. Apart from nougat Montelimar is not really a tourist destination but it does have a pleasant centre with a few sights to look out for.
Also to look out for are the municipal theatre built in neo-classical style in the 19th century, a Protestant Church built in the 17th century and a very attractive pharmacy. The pharmacy has a frontage made of tin and lead and has quite an ornate neo-classical style. If you are travelling with children the Jardin Public in the centre of Montelimar is a nice park, great for a picnic, and near the entrance is a mini-farm with peacocks, sheep and pygmy goats. One of the main sights to see in Montelimar is the Chateau des Adhemar which sits on a hilltop above the town. Adhemar castle was built at the end of the 12th century by the Adhémar family. It has battlements, a main residence, a keep and a chapel. It is used to house contemporary art exhibitions.

NYONS, en Drôme Provençale.
Nyons (Niom en occitan provençal), est une commune française, sous-préfecture du département de la Drôme, en région Auvergne Rhône Alpes.
La commune, fait partie du Parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales, créé en 2015. Ses habitants sont appelés les Nyonsais.
Surnommée : la Nice des Alpes dauphinoises, en raccourci : le Petit Nice, en raison d'un ensoleillement comparable, à celui de Nice et de sa Riviera.
C'est un site de villégiature, apprécié depuis le XIXe siècle, qui depuis va crescendo.
Située en Drôme provençale, aux confins des Alpes du Dauphiné et des Baronnies, à une quarantaine de kilomètres, à l'est de la vallée du Rhône (Pierrelatte), la commune est entourée de moyennes montagnes dont les plus hautes culminent à près de 1.000 mètres : Essaillon, Garde-Grosse, Saint Jaumes et Vaux.
Ces reliefs forment un hémicycle circulaire, qui s'ouvre au couchant en éventail sur la vallée aval de l'Eygues. Ces contreforts lui confèrent un microclimat exceptionnel. La Promenade de la Digue va du Pont de l'Europe au passage à gué de la Sauve, en longeant l'Eygues. Elle assure la continuité, entre la vieille ville et la ZA Les Laurons, qui va maintenant au-delà du pont, le Pont des Baronnies.
Son vent local, mystérieux, en-noyauté de légendes, nonobstant très salvateur : le Pontias, souffle un air ravigotant, généralement de 10 heures du soir, et jusqu'à 10 heures du matin.

The lodge and the the apartment on the first floor are for rent. The Danish owner inhabits the remaining approx. 500 m2.
The lodge is 40 m2. There are kitchen, dining table for 4 people, double bed and sofa and bathroom with shower. The porter´s lodge includes a small south-west facing garden with a large patio and a shed for garden furniture.
The apartment on 1st floor is 75 m2. There are a large family kitchen, 2 bedrooms with 2 good beds, bathroom and large south-facing room with views to the mountains with a large west facing balcony. There is a large enclosed garden for free use.

Nyons is situated on the river Eygues surrounded by lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards, close to Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. Nyons is known for its wrinkled black olives, which are among the best.
There are excellent opportunities for relaxation in gorgeous surroundings and / or an exciting activity holiday with golf, hiking, biking, climbing and paragliding. In the midst of Nyons is a 1200 m2 swimming pool complex.
In Nyon, there are beautiful places: Place de la Libération with sycamore trees everywhere and the Place du Dr. Bourdongle, which is framed by arcades, filled with shops. Surnommée « la Nice des Alpes dauphinoises », en raccourci : « le Petit Nice » en raison d'un ensoleillement comparable à celui de Nice et de sa Riviera. C'est un site de villégiature apprécié depuis le XIX siècle, qui depuis va crescendo.
Située en Drôme provençale, aux confins des Alpes du Dauphiné et des Baronnies à une quarantaine de kilomètres, à l'est de la vallée du Rhône (Pierrelatte), la commune est entourée de moyennes montagnes dont les plus hautes culminent à près de 1 000 mètres : Essaillon, Garde-Grosse, Saint Jaumes et Vaux. Ces reliefs forment un hémicycle circulaire (cirque) qui s'ouvre au couchant en éventail sur la vallée aval de l'Eygues. Ces contre-forts lui confèrent un micro-climat exceptionnel.
La Promenade de la Digue va du Pont de l'Europe au passage à gué de la Sauve, en longeant l'Eygues. Elle assure la continuité entre la vieille ville et la ZA Les Laurons qui va maintenant au-delà du pont, le Pont des Baronnies.
Son vent local mystérieux, en-noyauté de légendes, nonobstant très salvateur : le Pontias, souffle un air ravigotant, généralement de 10 heures du soir et jusqu'à 10 heures du matin. Ce vent très sec, de nord-est donne une impression de froid l'hiver au ressenti, mais appréciable l'été, fournit une parfaite aération à la ville.
Une légende locale, rapportée dans l'ouvrage de Gervais de Tilbury, le Livre des Merveilles, veut qu'il ait été apporté dans un gant par l'archevêque Césaire d'Arles, au début du vie siècle. Gabriel Boulé, ancien pasteur et historiographe du roi, en a écrit l'histoire au XVII siècle.

Je conteste cette revendication ! La pièce musicale que j'ai utilisée dans ma vidéo NYONS en Drôme Provençale, m'a été fournie légalement par la Sté Cylerlink dans la banque musicale de son logiciel de montage vidéo PowerDirector 14 dont je détient une version légale. De toutes façons, l'auteur J.S. Bach est décédé depuis plusieurs siècles et la revendication ne pourrait concerner que d'éventuels droits d'interprétation !
Une petite ballade à Nyons pour vos vacances.mov
Se dressant sur les bords de l'Eygues, à l'abri des turbulences du mistral, seul le Pontias vient contribuer à la pureté de l'air en toute saison. Nyons, en plein cœur de la Drôme Provençale, frontière climatique entre la Provence méditerranéenne et les alpes du Dauphiné, dégage de loin une belle harmonie, et se présente, vue de près, comme un gros bourg provençal typique.
Nyons jouit d'un micro-climat qui s'observe sur la végétation de type méditerranéen; oliviers, lauriers roses, lavandes, thyms, figuiers, romarins, mimosas ... Ce qui confère au pays de Nyons une luminosité particulière qui lui vaut les noms de Toscane de Rhône Alpes ou Petit Nice avec plus de 250 jours de soleil par an. La température annuelle moyenne maximale est de 19,7°c, minimale de 5,8°c, et un enneigement presque inexistant (moyenne de 3 jours par an sur 30 ans).

IL ÉTAIT UNE FOIS NYONS DRÔME PROVENÇALE
Nyons, est une commune française, sous-préfecture du département de la Drôme, en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. La commune, fait partie du Parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales, créé en 2015. Ses habitants sont appelés les Nyonsais.
La commune est surnommée « la Nice des Alpes dauphinoises », en raccourci : « le Petit Nice », en raison d'un ensoleillement comparable à celui de Nice, et de sa Riviera. C'est un site de villégiature apprécié depuis le XIXe siècle, qui depuis va crescendo. La commune de Nyons se trouve à vol d'oiseau, à 70 km au sud de Valence, à 40 km au sud-est de Montélimar, à 45 km au nord-est d'Orange, à 70 km au nord d'Avignon, et à 70 km au sud-ouest de Gap.
Son vent local, mystérieux, enveloppé de légendes, nonobstant très salvateur : le Pontias, souffle un air ravigotant, généralement de 22:00 à 10:00 du matin. Ce vent très sec, de nord-est donne une impression de froid l'hiver au ressenti, mais appréciable l'été, fournit une parfaite aération à la ville. Une légende locale, rapportée dans l'ouvrage de Gervais de Tilbury, le Livre des Merveilles, veut qu'il ait été apporté dans un gant, par l'archevêque Césaire d'Arles, au début du VIe siècle. Gabriel Boulé, ancien pasteur et historiographe du roi, en a écrit l'histoire au XVIIe siècle.
La région de Nyons relevait à l'époque celtique, de l'aire des Voconces. À l'époque gallo-romaine, elle est rattachée à la cité de Vaison.
La villa de Niomes est citée en 972, dans un acte de donation des églises Saint-Vincent, et Saint-Ferréol de Nions, à l'abbaye Saint-Césaire d'Arles.
Longtemps possession directe de l'abbaye Saint-Césaire d'Arles et des archevêques d'Arles, Nyons passe sous la domination effective de seigneurs laïcs. Les seigneurs de Montauban parviennent à y prendre pied au début du XIIIe siècle. Après un siècle de conflits pour la possession de la seigneurie, la ville est intégrée au Dauphiné en 1315. Il reste toutefois que le Dauphin doit toujours rendre l'hommage au pape pour Nyons, Vinsobres, et Mirabel. En 1349, après le transport du Dauphiné à la France, la ville de Nyons devient propriété du roi-dauphin, qui restera suzerain jusqu'à la Révolution.
La ville connaît une période de croissance exceptionnelle à partir de la fin du XIIIe siècle et jusqu'au début du XVe siècle, croissance liée à la présence de la cour papale à Avignon, à celle de marchands italiens et d'une communauté juive nombreuse. Le début du XVIe siècle est également une période d'expansion, mais les guerres de religion, commencées dans la région à la fin des années 1550, bouleversent profondément Nyons.
En 1585, une citadelle est construite sur la rive gauche de l'Eygues, et domine la ville et le pont, alors que le château delphinal, construit au début du XIVe siècle, est démantelé.
Nyons devient alors place de sûreté protestante, le reste après l'édit de Nantes de 1598, et ne perd ce statut qu'après l'édit de La Rochelle, en 1622. En effet, après les insurrections protestantes de cette année-là, Louis XIII décide d'abattre les principales fortifications de la région, susceptibles de servir de repaire aux protestants.
Depuis 2005, l'Institut du monde de l'olivier de Nyons est devenu l'antenne Rhône-Alpes de l'AFIDOL. Il abrite plusieurs structures spécialisées dans la promotion de l'olive de Nyons, dont le Syndicat de la tanche et la Confrérie des chevaliers de l'olivier. Un musée de l'olivier a été créé à côté de la Coopérative du Nyonsais.
Nyons est par ailleurs située dans une région produisant des vins, rattachés à l'appellation des côtes du Rhône, à proximité de Vinsobres, Visan, et Cairanne. Les vins, produits sur le terroir de Nyons, peuvent être classés en appellation « Côtes-du-Rhône Village », « Côtes-du-Rhône », et « Vins de pays des coteaux-des-baronnies ». Les vignerons de la commune sont représentés au sein de la Commanderie des Costes du Rhône, confrérie bachique, qui tient ses assises au château de Suze-la-Rousse, siège de l'Université du vin.

The Apartment - Vacation rentals in the olive town Nyons, Provence
The house Les Avets is a large maison de campagne, renovated in 2010 by one of France´s best architects. It is quietly located 700 m from the center.
The lodge and the the apartment on the first floor are for rent. The Danish owner inhabits the remaining approx. 500 m2.
The lodge is 40 m2. There are kitchen, dining table for 4 people, double bed and sofa and bathroom with shower. The porter´s lodge includes a small south-west facing garden with a large patio and a shed for garden furniture.
The apartment on 1st floor is 75 m2. There are a large family kitchen, 2 bedrooms with 2 good beds, bathroom and large south-facing room with views to the mountains with a large west facing balcony. There is a large enclosed garden for free use.
Nyons with its 6.800 inhabitants is one af the main towns in the area, beautifully situated in the heart of the Drôme Provencale, surrounded by lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards - is known for its mild climate with 300 sunny days a year. The town lies at 270 meters altitude, southfacing between 2 mountain ranges, well protected from the mistral, which blows through the Rhône Valley.
Nyons is situated on the river Eygues surrounded by lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards, close to Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. Nyons is known for its wrinkled black olives, which are among the best.
There are excellent opportunities for relaxation in gorgeous surroundings and / or an exciting activity holiday with golf, hiking, biking, climbing and paragliding. In the midst of Nyons is a 1200 m2 swimming pool complex.
In Nyon, there are beautiful places: Place de la Libération with sycamore trees everywhere and the Place du Dr. Bourdongle, which is framed by arcades, filled with shops. The old fortress situated high, is visible from afar. Rue des Grands Forts goes under the arches which have been inhabited for centuries.
