Nowshera نوشہرہ is the chief city of Nowshera District in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan, and is the ninth large District of the Provine.
Nowshera was developed during the Afghan Durrani Empire. The Battle of Nowshera was fought in March 1823 between the forces of Pashtuns with support from Azim Khan Barakzai, Durrani governor against the Sikh Khalsa Army of Ranjit Singh. The battle was a decisive victory for the Sikh Empire against Afghans and led to their occupation of the Peshawar Valley.
During British rule, Nowshera was a town and cantonment as well as tehsil of the Peshawar District (later Peshawar Division). The town was on the route of the North-Western Railway and Grand Trunk Roadst city in the province.

Nowshera - A beautiful city of KPK
Nowshera (Urdu: نوشہرہ ; Pashto: نوښار, pr. Nowkhār) is the chief city of Nowshera District in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan, and is one of the largest cities in the province.
Located in the Valley of Peshawar, Nowshera lies on the Kabul River, and is approximately 27 miles (43 km) east of the provincial capital Peshawar, along the historic Grand Trunk Road.
During British rule, Nowshera was a town and cantonment as well as tehsil of the Peshawar District (later Peshawar Division). The town was on the route of the North-Western Railway and Grand Trunk Road. The population according to the 1901 census of India was 9,518.
The Imperial Gazetteer of India described the cantonment as follows:
The cantonment stretches along the right bank of the Kābul river on a sandy plain, 3 miles in diameter, and is surrounded by low hills on all sides except the north, which is open towards the river. The garrison now consists of one British infantry regiment, two Native cavalry and four infantry regiments, a mountain battery, and a bearer corps, belonging to the Peshāwar division of the Northern Command. The Kābul river is crossed by a permanent bridge of boats, whence roads lead to Mardān and Chārsadda. The iron road and railway bridge across the river was opened on December 1, 1903. The village of Naushahra Khurd, west of the cantonment, and the large village of Naushahra Kalān, on the north bank of the Kābul, are both outside cantonment limits. The headquarters of the Naushahra tahsīl, with the police station, are in the former, 3 miles from the cantonment. The town contains a Government dispensary and a vernacular middle school, maintained by the District board.
Nowshera District is bordered by Peshawar District to the west, Mardan District to the north, Charsadda District to the northwest, Swabi District to the northeast, Kohat District to the south, Orakzai Agency to the southwest, and Attock District to the east.
Pashto is the native language of the majority of residents. Hindko is also spoken in the city and parts of surrounding villages. Urdu, being the national language of Pakistan, is also widely understood.

NOWSHERA, also pronounced in Pashto as Nowkhar, is a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Located in the Valley of Peshawar, Nowshera lies on the banks of Kabul River, and is approximately 43 km east of the provincial capital - Peshawar, along the historic Grand Trunk Road.
The video-documentary starts with the calmly flowing Kabul River and its railway and road link bridges on it. The majestic view of the British-era built railway bridge is eye-catching.
Nowshera is also famous for its sweet and juicy oranges and other citrus fruits, and one can see the vast orchards of orange trees in the video.
Then the camera clicks on the magnificent British-era Taj Building established in 1920. Located along the GT Road, the building reminds us the bygone era when the Great Britain ruled over this part of the world.
During British rule, Nowshera was a town and cantonment as well as tehsil of the Peshawar district.
The majestic structure of the Kaka Sahib Shrine in hilly area of the district is another segment in the video that provides spiritual comfort and consolation. The dome and tomb and the adjacent mosque are worth seeing sights in the shrine, which are always abuzz with the devotees and visitors.
People throng Kaka Sahib’s shrine everyday in a large number for seeking solace and spiritual delight. Devotees from far and wide visit the shrine to pay their respects to the Sufi saint.
The complex of the Sufi saint comprises the magnificent mausoleum of Hazrat Kaka Sahib and graves of host of his family members, tombs of his staunch disciples, a spacious mosque, Langar Khana, library and a few family quarters for night stay of guest visitors.
He had earned the title of Rahmkaar – ‘the kindest’ who used to free slaves and show mercy on orphans, poor and destitute families.
Nowshera Dam and beautiful Kund Park are also located in the district. A large number of picnickers from across the Peshawar Valley and elsewhere throw their daily chores behind and visit both the places to enjoy the day-long trips.

Nowshera District (Pashto: نوښار ولسوالۍ, Urdu: ضِلع نوشہرہ) is a district in Peshawar Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. The capital and district headquarter is Nowshera city.
Nowshera was a tehsil (sub division) of Peshawar until 1988, when it became a district. It is bordered by Peshawar District to the West, Mardan District to the North, Charsadda District to the North West, Swabi District to the North East, Kohat District to the South, Orakzai Agency to the South West & Attock District to the East.

Perched on the crest of Khattak range at an elevation of 4,447 feet, Cherat is shaped like a sausage measuring 2 miles in length. The hill station dating from the 1860s is located immediately above the villages of Chapri, Saleh Khana, Kotli Kalan and Dak Ismail Khel in the Nowshera District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
The British took over Peshawar District in 1849 from the Sikhs and Station their troops in Peshawar. The sizzling summers of Peshawar led to the discovery of Cherat as a station. It was first used as sanitarium for troops in 1861 and was later transformed into a cantonment in 1881. Abbottabad ایبٹ آباد, is the capital city of Abbottabad District in the Hazara region of eastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is the 40th largest city in Pakistan and sixth largest in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by population. It is about 120 km (75 mi) north of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and 150 km (93 mi) east of Peshawar, at an altitude of 1,256 m (4,121 ft). Kashmir lies to the east.
Abbottabad was founded and named after Major James Abbott in January 1853 as the headquarters of Hazara District during the British Raj after the annexation of Punjab. He remained the first Deputy Commissioner of the Hazara district from 1849 until April 1853. Major Abbott is noted for having written a poem titled Abbottabad, before his return to Britain, in which he wrote of his fondness for the town and his sadness at having to leave it.
In the early 20th century, Abbottabad became an important military cantonment and sanatorium, serving as the headquarters of a brigade in the Second Division of the Northern Army Corps.The garrison consisted of four battalions of native infantry, of the Frontier Force (including the 5th Gurkha Rifles) and two native mountain batteries.
